republicans just had their 72-hour infomercial for mitt romney and for the republican party. in this and maybe through the democrats' three days this upcoming week, the republicans are supposed to be capitalizing on what they did last week. they're supposed to be capitalizing on the momentum they built with their 72-hour inferomrlsh. this is the part where you're supposed to be campaigning at warp speed. in 1992, after the clinton/gore convention, these guys did a 1,000-mile bus tour right after their convention. in 2000, after the republican convention, george bush and dick cheney left straight from their convention to ohio and michigan and illinois to tour it by train. in 2004, john kerry and john edwards did the same sort of cross country tour through pennsylvania and west virginia and ohio and beyond. in 2008, barack obama and joe biden went straight from their convention to michigan and to pennsylvania and to ohio by bus. you're supposed to go out there and make it stick, right? it is post-convention momentum time. mitt romney today is not on a bus tour. or a train tour.

governor, republican legislature, republican polices, we have essentially the same unemployment rate so it really has to do with some decline of some industries, some of them having to do with textile industries moving to other countries and they're not coming back and some of it having to do with the recession. and so these manufacturing jobs have been very slow to return and that's really why the carolinas have had a much more difficult time returning and why the unemployment level is higher. different areas of the states are affected in different ways. places like the major metropolitan areas, places like the raleigh-durham area where we have high tech industries, places like charlotte, where the banking industry are doing better, the places hurting are the small town, rural areas which are more heavily reliant on some of the more older industries, the textile plants and furniture plants in particular, agri business, they've had a harder time. the more rural you get, small town you get the higher the unemployment. and so that's sort of how that's played out. but there's a lot of h
