rhode island is recognized. mr. langevin: i would like to point out to my friend and there is precedent for such a change. 1996 we amended fisheries law to ensure that north carolina could enter into the regional fishery council. it is not unprecedented. with that, i yield two minutes to my colleague from rhode island, mr. cicilline. the chair: the gentleman from rhode island is recognized for how long? two minutes. mr. cicilline: i rise in strong support of the amendment offered by congressman langevin. i'm proud to be an original co-sponsor of the rhode island fisherman's fairness act. it will provide representation on the council. this move would allow them to have a voice on the council which manages stocks for species which are the most valuable. rhode island fishermen account scup landing, both stocks being managed. squid is landing more squid than the other east coast states combined. in 2015, rhode island landed roughly 16 million pound of squid, 12 million pounds. and 23 million pounds of squid landings valued at $29 million. rhode island accounts for more fish lappedings rn any other state in the region with the exception of new jersey. yet desp
