rhodes has pleaded not guilty. but his attorneys are trying to get him out of jail while he awaits for trial. so, that hearing has been scheduled for next thursday. but the -- there is no real comment on all of the details that were un -- unleashed in this 49-page indictment by federal prosecutors where they essentially accuse him of plotting the forceful opposition of the peaceful transfer of presidential power. all of this, stemming back to the january 6th insurrection. anderson. >> what are rhodes' supporters and ex-wife saying about all this? >> well, there were two friends of his and another lawyer with the oath keepers who showed up at the hearing today. we asked them about the text messages and the communications that rhodes had with several members of the oath keepers where he said we will have to do a bloody -- a massively bloody revolution against them. that's what's going to have to happen. we asked about all that. his supporters say that's simply overblown, that it was just rhetoric. but his ex-wife spo

you saw stewart rhodes up close and personal.t makes you so convinced he's guilty of these charges? >> stewart lived in my basement for several months towards the end of my tenure with the oath keepers. we spent a lot of time together, we got to know each other on a personal level. he spoke of things like this, what he would call a quick reaction force nearby that are more heavily armed. this is something that he's been doing as a leader of the oath keepers for quite a while. >> you saw the inner workings of the oath keepers. how dangerous was the organization? >> i think the biggest threat comes in their ideas. comes in their messaging. the real danger comes from kind of the lone wolf extremist set that are on the peripheral, that they're listening to alex jones, they're listening to stewart rhodes, taking it to heart. >> hey, guys. oath keepers here -- jason tatum. >> reporter: jason was featured in the documentary "homegrown." >> i have to own it. i was swept up, i was excited. and i was wrong. and i do, i feel awful about it.

much of the indictment centers around stewart rhodes. rhodes started the oath keepers in 2009.yale law graduate and staffer for former republican congress member ron paul. his estranged wife describes him as a gun happy false prophet. he says rhodes believes he is an historical figure. comparing him to dr. martin luther king jr. his ex adds he has been living in a cabin and using donations from the oath keepers for years. he sent messages to the group chat saying we are not getting through this without a civil war and a bloody battle and desperate fight. we will have a fight. that can't be avoided. despite the military attitude and arsenal of weapons, he apparently is not handy with a gun. his ex-wife telling nbc news, he's not a very good shot. rhodes wears an eye patch after dropping a loaded gun and shooting himself in the eye. unlike so many charged so far, rhodes did not enter the capitol building on january 6th. he stands accused of helping to orchestrate the violence. over the last year, rhodes has denied wrongdoing and entered a not guilty plea during arrangement on fri

before we get to rhodes, another defendant, edward viejo just appeared virtually for his federal court appearance in arizona, what did we learn from that one. >> the hearing, the initial appearance just wrapped in federal court in arizona. the way it's laid out, he'll have another hearing next thursday. that will determine if he's eligible for release. he will be held until then. it's all because he is facing this serious charge of seditious conspiracy for allegedly plotting to violently overthrow the government along with ten other dfefendants including stewart rhodes who we're expecting at 3:30 in court. they outlined his role in the indictment, he led quick reaction force teams where a few oath keepers actually stayed behind at a hotel in virginia where they stockpiled weapons and they were ready, apparently, to move into the capitol with those weapons if other oath keepers called for back up. this is from the indictment. while certain oath keeper members and affiliates bridged the capitol grounds and building, others remained stationed just outside of the city if qrf teams, they we

how big is this charge on rhodes today? >> this is a big deal. this is a charge a lot of people have been waiting for. it's been a number of different charges that have been generated and used against defendants in these cases, sometimes getting a little bit creative with federal statutes on the books and using them in ways that are clearly under the law but maybe are not perhaps how people anticipated when they were being written, right? so i think the seditious conspiracy charge is really interesting here because, i mean, if this doesn't meet this charge, what is it on the books for, right? it perfectly describes the operation here of what people actually did. so i think it's kind of a relief in people's mind that they got to this new platform. >> rhodes has been a somewhat notorious figure because people knew he was the oath keepers founder, they knew he was around this and hadn't been charged yet. in fact, some smooth-brained geniuses on the right had come up with this conspiracy theory, the lynch pin which was that rhodes had not been search

as did stewart rhodes, the alleged brains behind this entire operation. after the election, he began to, quote, encourage members and affiliates of his organization to oppose by force the lawful transfer of presidential power. you can see there the sort of call back to the seditious conspiracy language. also, how he and his allies, quote, began recruiting others to travel to d. c., to participate in operations aimed at stopping the transfer of presidential power. they coordinated travel across the country to enter washington, d. c., equip themselves with a variety of weapons, dawned combat and tactical gear, and were prepared to answer roads call to take up arms at rhodes's direction. to be absolutely clear here, those are all quotes from an indictment, rhodes and caldwell and their associates. that are all innocent until proven otherwise in the court of law. but we should say this, rhodes did do a fair amount of this plotting in public. take this november 10th 2020 episode of conspiracy theorists alex jones'internet show. where in the middle of detailing

this was one of the signal messages from rhodes to his leadership group.nd he says, there are many, many others from other groups who will be watching and waiting on the outside in case of worse case scenarios. that just shows that the justice department is interested in identifying everyone involved here. who were these other groups? did they really exist? and of course, the big question is, was there leadership from an even higher authority? anyone associated with the president. were they aware of, involved with, supportive of this conspiracy? or were the oath keepers just sort of a silo on their own? the pressure for these people to cooperate has just gone up a lot because of the magnitude of these charges. >> juliette, how do you see these indictments? >> legally, i agree with jeff, and that paragraph he cites suggested they were all waiting for some trigger to move in with their weapons. remember, as sara said, this is a frightening indictment. there's lots of weapons around the capitol ready to be moved in. that trigger never happened. so we don't kn

rhodes is the most high profile in the investigation so far. court documents lay out a wide-ranging plot to storm the capitol and disrupt the certification of the 2020 election. two days after election day, rhodes allegedly urged his followers to refuse to accept the election results writing in a signal message, we aren't getting through this without a civil war. according to federal prosecutors on his way to d.c. on january 3rd, rhodes allegedly bought an ar platform rifle and sights, mounts, triggers, slings and other firearms attachments in texas. the next day he allegedly bought more supplies in mississippi. rhodes who earned a law degree from yale did not enter the capitol on january 6th, but video captures oath keepers forcing their way into the building in a military stack formation. in this clip, you can see a group of oath keepers very close to the capitol doors breaching the building. here, members inside the capitol rotunda including jessica watkins who was among those charged today with seditious conspiracy. the new indictment also
