joining us in new york is richard cohen, president of the southern poverty law center. richard, you got the news with everyone out that steve bannon would be the chief strategist for donald trump. your thoughts? >> it was incredibly disheartening, amy. the night that trump was elected, he said that he was going to be the president for all americans, that he was going of division,ounds divisions which he had cause, and now we see him doing the opposite. appointing someone who was very proud to give a platform to the alt-right. the alt-right is nothing more than the rebranding of white supremacy, white nationalism, for the digital age. trump says one thing the day he is elected, does something else at this point. it is really discouraging, really disheartening. it does not portend well for his administration, i'm afraid. amy: richard, describe more fully what is the alt-right? what is the breitbart news website and the significance of bannon now being the number two man for president -- soon to be president trump? >> when breitbart traditionally was a conservative website,

i'm joined by richard cohen, president of the southern poverty law center.hearing for top nypd commanders here in new york, they see a spike in bias crimes, not only this year, but since election day. they say there have been 13 incidents where swastikas were marked and they are not saying why. they are noting that fact that there is this spike. what kind of reports are you hearing? >> similar things. we are collecting incidents and between last wednesday and this current wednesday, we logged in over 700 incidents from coast to coast. many of them associated with mr. trump's name unfortunately. people screaming racial epitaphs and on streets and wal-marts and get out of the country, your time has come, that kind of thing. a lot of swastikas and trump written on the door of a muslim prayer room. it's quite unfortunate. >> on your organization's website, you say this really surprised me. the most common location for incidents was k-12 schools. in one story we were looking at, fans of a high school team were shouting build that wall and holding up trump signs w
