you you know, sitting between rick atkinson and richard frank in a on the in military historian will understand, i know now how luxembourg and belgium feel. [laughter] historicalob, i do analysis for the army. the u.s. military, after two decades of counterinsurgency -- future battlefields can be lethal, and modern military has very little recuperative power. we don't have the industrial base, the training base, we don't have the draft anymore, we don't have a viable replacement system. if the modern military will fight in battle, it will be a worthwhile one. ,ne of the themes of last night and he kept cutting operation garden, madness. another operation that should not have occurred. that is another one of the themes of this panel. i also do a column for the blog rocks." he for anybody interested in contemporary military affairs, i have a recommended. -- recommend it i am pleased to be on this panel , and expect we'll see a lot of insights. know how to pick the right battles, but we also have to learn to avoid the wrong ones. two examples today that can fall into the latter category
