east asia expert richard mcgregor explores the complex dynamics in a new book called "asia's reckoningn diplomatic challenges. as the power has grown, china has begun building a regional order with beijing at the center in place of washington. the battle lines are clear. richard, good morning. >> good morning. >> you suggest in the region beijing says the united states is there by choice. it choses to be there while china is there by geographic call reality. meaning that's how they see their role as superior to the u.s. >>well, their geopolitical fact in asia. as you said the u.s. is there by choice. i think china wants to make the u.s. to be going up and up slowly. not rapidly. they don't want the u.s. to leave quickly. over time china naturally wants to dominate asia. it wants to be the power, if you like. and ultimately replace the u.s. but not in a way we might see happening in the at moment. >> which begs the question, is there anything the united states can do to stop that? >> well, i think over time the u.s. would have to share power. not with, you know -- the chinese economy co

. >> richard mcgregor, you have written in your book about how limit thad policy can be, how limit thadve a vested interest in some forth korean stability. explain that a little bit. >> well, i mean, david is right to talk about north korea being a strategic liable to china. but, just look at it from one minute from the other side t. bigger pick sheer about the unwinding of all america'sa in east asia stept years at the end of the war. up with of the big legacies on the korean peninsula is of course the u.s. troops, 27, 28,000 troops are still there. can north korea be used by carolina in some respect or can north korea use it's own growing produce tore gain leverage in a way to sort of clear the korean peninsula of u.s. troops in i think in the back of the chinese mind, that's one thing when north korea can work for them there do you think there is any chance, for example, coin cuts off oil to north korea, as some have suggested? >> i don't think so. i mean, if they did cut off oil the first people that would suffer would be the north korean people t. north korean military will have st
