let's bring in pulitzer prize-winning columnist for the "washington post," and also richard wolf. richa richard, did romney lay any hands on gingrich tonight? i think that was ms. mission, to try to regain the momentum, establish himself as a good conservative to florida voters. was that accomplished tonight from romney's perspective? >> yes, i think he did. he did that in what we just saw. he chased him down the line on freddie mac. weirdly, he managed to land some punches on himself, and that's what's weird about his candidacy. he tied himself in knots on taxes again, he came up with this weird phrase of self-deportation on immigration. how he manages to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory may be the story of the whole romney campaign. >> that was no doubt a head-scratching moment, self-deportation. and of course santorum followed up saying, we have that right now. eugene robinson, taking a look at the demeanor of tonight's debate, this was a time where i thought that maybe newt gingrich could have put some icing on the cake, but he was -- i don't know if this is the correct w

jackie çconisinch and richard wolf. it's great to have you both on deck with me today.e in florida? >> in new hampshire right now, i was an exeter today at a poll g ing site, and there were a lot of people there. i don't know if there is a lack of enthusiasm in new hampshire today. it seems like people are excited to get out there and vote, at least the ones i spoke to. and in florida, candidates need to meet or exceed expectations here. that includes mitt romney. he needs to do better than -- i think he was at 37% or something like that at the poll i looked at. so, i mean, he needs to meet that or exceed it to have a good head going into south carolina. >> romney has been running, richard, a pretty much glitch-free show but he fumbled monday with the comments on firing people in context to how he prefers to get his services personally in his own life. the damage has been done, though. so how do you think this is going to hurt him moving forward, and especially with someone like john huntsman who wants to try to capitalize on these gaffes? >> whether it's huntsmanor any

we want to talk about his florida resurgence with richard wolf. a lot of people are looking at this, seeing the fact there was a big "the new york times" article on the romney team resetting after south carolina, the debacle. is this mitt romney's to lose? he has done the work and organization to sew it up there. >> what you need to focus on is the amount of money romney spent over and above what gingrich spent. that's $12 million difference between the two of them. these numbers can be crazy. we lose track of what the scale is on these things, but the average senate race in the last election was $3 million. that's 12 million, four times that, just the advantage romney has had on the air waves. that had a real impact on the numbers. >> and a political writer for the miami herald, mark, ten different media markets in florida, two different time zones. a lot of ground to cover there. let's look at the new quinnipiac poll showing 24% of florida republicans still may change their mind. is there a window cracked for newt gingrich, and if he loses big,
