. >> talk a little bit about this last election and, and in particular, um uh richie torres, uh fellow new york representative, um suggested recently that he thought one of the reasons that uh vice president harris was not successful was perhaps because the democratic party, in his words had pandered too much to the far left. uh do you agree with that? >> yeah, it's very interesting because this certainly is a question uh that as i travel throughout the country prior to the election is raised often, you know, when in order to win elections, you got to do two things. you have to keep the base energized, right? and that's traditional progressives, keep the base energized and be prepared to move swing voters in your direction and you have to always at all times strike that balance. i think that richie's observations were in part based on concerns, for instance, uh that there are some who had called for the abolition of ice several years ago. and that was obviously a position that the american people prior to even uh the most recent border crisis that is now front and center for so many fo
