it's going to run through pittsburgh and along i-80 to richmond. for overover a decade, video cameras have been mounted on many city streets in the east bay. that's why police believe gang members have been opting to shoot each other on the freeway. >> we have cameras all over the area. so what we found is that gang members will target other gang members. they will specifically follow them and wait until they get on the freeway and then shoot at them. >> reporter: so these new cameras can pan, tilt, and zoom as they record traffic going by, reading the license plates of passing cars, and listening for gunfire with special microphones. when it detects a shot, an alert will go to the police department's task force commander. that person will be able to log in in real time to immediately begin the investigation. these cameras should be installed sometime next year late spring early summer. it's part of a three-year pilot program. . then they're hoping to get grabs to continue it beyond then. >>> calmer winds are helping firefighters in southern califo
