notice all the roads going into richmond. it's a transportation hub, so logistically, how do you continue the war? psychologically, would that be the killing blow? if it is in the killing blow, this is all supposition, but it's probably not that far from possible. george mcclellan, all he wants to do is put the union back together. he has no interest in freeing slaves, no interest in penalizing the confederates, he just wants to put the union back together as it was. if he takes richmond and the war doesn't, things could be a lot different. lincoln did not decide initially on the emancipation proclamation until after he was driven away from richmond. hard-liners are coming to the -- he decides to issue the emancipation proclamation. it's entirely possible that slavery would have survived. we don't know what the united states would look like today. this was a big moment. another thing i want to talk about is a few years ago, chris scott with me and he asked me if i could find out where joe dodson actually got wounded. it seems

the confederates are done in richmond. they will not be able to hold richmond. they will not be able to maintain lee's army nor the richmond and they're gonna lose northern virginia most of the state really so this is very this is a very sensitive target. the grant is poking out with a smaller army. it could be grant's entirely open to the possibility that while he is up here in northern virginia directly supervising the army of the potomac. these guys will win the war. well, it might happen. and so any hopes without by stretching lee and all those directions he will be able to gain an advantage over him. well that leads to another problem though. another thing that grants going to have to deal with is here. so he's got good things going for him and there's some things against him. going against grant is the problem that this is 1864. this is an election year. and there's going to be a presidential election lincoln is up for reelection. now there were actually some republicans. who said and suggested to lincoln we ought to postpone the election. let's not hold t

. >> the richmond, sandra fell bridge taking that right now. 8 minutes tolls to 1, 1, out of richmond. >> and the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls. 20 minutes. well on the peninsula, gunshots and drivers stuck in traffic running after police fatally shot a man in redwood city. it happened on the intersection of el camino real. now, police say that the man was using 3 children as shields for more shots rang out. proffers justin campbell has that story. redwood city police tell us this was a domestic violence incident. they tell us that an armed man with a he and gun. >> used 3 kids as a human shield in here is how it happened. they tell us a 9-1-1 call came in after 3 o'clock to dispatch. when the dispatcher heard a child screaming in the background. now the call abruptly disconnected. she tried calling back, but it went to voicemail and they were able to ping the location of the call. and this is where that lead them to el camino. looking at that prius where this started, the sate officers arrived and found a mother and her 3 kids in that prius with this man with an armed he handgu

now we reached out to richmond police. they say going forward, they're going to be training more officers to deal with sideshow activity. those officers will go to sideshow so that patrol officers can continue to answer service costs. along the peninsula. a teenage boy and a 23 year-old man are facing charges for allegedly plane part in a crash that left 2 children orphaned. the crash happened on november 4th at el camino, real and finger avenue in redwood city, grace and gray comments car was struck by another car killing both parents and injuring their 7 year old twin girls. redwood city police say that car was racing. another car leading up to that crash. the 17 year-old boy from redwood city was identified by police is the alleged driver that crashed into the comments he was arrested and booked into the san mateo county youth services center. police say the other car was driven by. 23 year-old kyle harrison also from where it would city. both of the suspects were arrested on 2 counts of second degree murder. in the eas
