abby: we bring rick who has been following this warning a week ago about the hurricane and rick, seemedhan we had predicted. >> yes, it is, unfortunately. certainly stronger, we also weren't exactly sure where it was going to go. sometimes we have storms we know exactly where they are going to go, we know it's going to make the right-hand turn, it's just where that happens. unfortunately that moves it parallel to florida, 100-mile wide peninsula and makes a difference, everything at this point looks like it's trending much farther towards the west. it's moving towards warm water. it made landfall in cuba, then it's going to move back over water, the amount of time to exit here from cuba and get up towards florida is about 24 hours to the key, that gives you plenty of time in really warm water here and that's why the broadcasting brings to cat 5. that's the satellite picture, the center of it cutting down the coast. 156 is a cat 5, we are barely down. also, now we have the rain, so the florida keys getting in on some of the rain, first rain band about to move towards the miami area. this

. >> hi, rick. we just got the latest update.hurricane jose remains a weak category one hurricane and fortunately it is pretty far off the eastern seaboard. the center of the storm is currently about 250 miles east of the outer banks and you can see that we are beginning to see the outer cloud bands of josÉ moving in but the good news is with this storm as it tracks up to the north, the sustained tropical storm force winds, you can see that in yellow, they will stay offshore. so the national weather service has canceled that tropical storm watch but it's still going to be a very gusty day along the coast. this is what we expect. not sustained winds but wind gusts along the beaches 40 to 45 miles tomorrow as josÉ gets closer inland towards philadelphia about 30 to 40, northwest suburbs wind gusts about 20 to 30 miles per hour but the big problem with josÉ at the fact that it's really whipping up the surf. breaking waves about 10 feet tall, expected tomorrow. this will cause a lot of beach erosion, bad news for the jersey and delaw

chief meteorologist rick reichmuth joins us. rick? >> georgia, west georgia, to get out of the path. the storm, as adam was just saying, battering turks and caicos for the last six hours. what we saw yesterday from the virgin islands, the lesser antilles, as well as the turks and caicos, the strongest storm in that area at a category five making a direct impact there. all the models are doing the same thing. this hard right turn, we can't say exactly where it's going to go. something happened this afternoon. everything had been trending toward the east. then this really reliable model took a being jog toward the west. that made the national hurricane center adjust the cone a little bit toward the west. the point is, when you see one run like that, don't like to see it. it could jog back again. bottom line, everybody in south florida, you got to watch this. if this ended up happening we would probably watch hurricane-force winds extend the length of the peninsula. force force winds extend out 70 miles from center, both sides. that's ab

the surf is rough and we have an another high rick of rip currents. dew point 65 and moderately hum helping thing as long 15 miles per hour breeze pleasant and ocean temperature is 72. 82 in allentown currently and 81 in reading and 77 in trep ton and 82 in wilmington and millville. and 78 currently in atlanta city. satellite and radar showing you that most of the rain from jose is spin ago way from us. cloud cover cutting the region in half. the farther west the brighter it is and sun and clouds with breaks. 75 miles per hour winds with tropical storm jose now it strengthened just a bit and is expected to weaken and become an extra tropical low and we expect the move back toward the coast and a shot up to the northeast or just falls apart and it's going take all weekend for that to happen. even monday morning we could have remnantses of jose off the coast. we are looking at great weather on the sand. if you want to head down to the beach today or through the weekend early next week. great. but in the water not so great. continued rough surf and dange

rick reichmuth is all over that. rick: we did see a shift in the track a little bit west. we saw that doesn't mean it will stay that way. all of south florida is under a hurricane watch. there is a lot of population in this area. in the short term the turks and caicos getting pummeled by this storm heading into dark. they will have the storm come through in the dark. we'll see probably a complete washover of a lot of these islands with waves 45 feet on top of a storm surge. rainfall, take a look at this, the storm stays organized the next 36 hours or so. it will go over really warm water. the warmest water it will have gone over in it lifespan. so the temperatures in the upper 80s, pushing90 degrees. that's a lot of fuel. the euro model made a big jog to the south and then west. out of deference to this model it stays on the peninsula of florida. bad news for florida. but with all the models that came up, the forecast was moved off to the west. we have a lot of confidence. but when you have a reliable model shifting to the west, they pay attention to it a little bit. we ge

rick and monica. >> thanks. >> thank you so much.t now for a check of the accuweather forecast. a very busy day. >> yeah, we definitely are watching hurricane irma. we should be getting the latest update within the next 45, 50 minutes from the national hurricane center. we go to the weather center to talk about the difference of a category one and a category five. in a category one storm you're talking about minimal damage with winds between 74 to as much as 90 or so miles an hour up to a hundred. as you get to a category two hurricane, that's when you see the winds up to almost 110. when you start to get a little more extensive damage. we're still not up to the strength of where irma is. even a category three as you see here winds sustained up to almost 120 or so miles an hour with devastating damage but right now irma is a very strong category four on the verge of a category five hurricane. that's when you get the dangerous storm surge and really almost every structure is somewhat destructed, is actually ripped apart so to speak he
