first, rick reichmuth is in the fox extreme weather center. rick? >> yeah, the storm getting its act together. a lot compared to yesterday, this is the water vapor image. this is what we look at. you can see the dark colors there. those are strong winds that we had yesterday and overnight in the upper levels of the atmosphere. around 15 to 20,000 feet up, there's winds that come in and shear the storm apart a little bit. that area, that dark mass there, you'll notice it moving away from that. now we basically just have a storm that is in perfect conditions for it to continue to strengthen. about 11:00 a.m., we saw this eye begin to develop. it's continued to stay very well-organized. we also saw the west side of it that had been eroded yesterday really fill in. now we have a very textbook looking hurricane here going over very warm water with nothing to break it apart. that's why the official forecast brings it to a category four again. that is a very difficult thing to forecast. could be higher than that, could be lower than that based off of the s

rick?k: so david we have a season for tropical storms and the peak of that season is september 10 and you get the idea we're right here when we see the bulk of our activity and things are getting really active so we had this storm, have this storm, dorian in the north eastern caribbean which is a graveyard for storms historically, and didn't happen in this case, it kind of held itself together. fortunately it moved to the east of where we thought it was going to go. that happened because the center of the storms that aren't really well organized can actually kind of develop a new center. that happened a new times yesterday and each time it happened to the north, so that adjusted everything off towards the right. that means that it spared puerto rico the direct edge of this but also means that it did not get disrupted by the mountains of puerto rico it just stayed over water storms still very well intact and an 80-mile an hour hurricane right now gone past the island will be pulling away fro

let's go to the fox extreme weather center with rick reichmuth. rick? >> the radar picture here, you can see the center of it. st. thomas right there. just to the east of puerto rico. puerto rico will get definitely some strong rain from this. we'll see flooding on the eastern side of the island. san juan probably not as bad. injury not as close to this. the satellite image, you can see -- begins to look like a hurricane. they were just in there flying around and found the winds at 75 miles an hour. so they did that upgrade. what we've been seeing the last couple days is that center of the storm be displaced towards the north. so we saw that yesterday here. every time that happens, they go in and find the center. when the next computer models run, they've got to recenter where the starting point of the projection goes out after that. that's why we've been seeing the models change quite a bit. we'll probably see that again. center of the storm is there. you still see a lot of the worst convection to the north of it. still a little bit to the north of the

charles: rick, appreciate it.desantis declared a state of emergency and is working on bringing in more fuel as hurricane dorian approaches. rick leventhal live at cape canaveral, florida, with more on the state preparations. rick? reporter: we're down in delray beach, charles. i can add to rick's reporting. according to one forecast map, if this storm follows that track, hits the central florida coast as a four, it could hit downtown orlando as a category 1 hurricane. think about what that, what kind of damage that might cause. the other key point here, charles, is that the storm is slowing down. it is gaining in strength but moving forward at a slower speed. once it hits land, moving slower, more rain, more high wind, for longer periods of time, perhaps up to 36 hours of hurricane strength winds on the ground in the state of florida before it moves out. that means even longer for first-responders and others to get to those hardest hit areas. a nightmare scenario, when you consider high storm surge, possibility of
