rick pearson has the report. >> the governor called lawmakers into a special session with a grand designe plan to reform a little a public employee pensions. by the end of the day, lawmakers left springfield unable to make changes in just their own pension system. the failure to move on legislatures pensions, let alone those of state workers coming university employees, and suburban and out of state teachers, led to a spate of finger-pointing. republicans wanted full scale of reforms, and said it was a democrat conspired election-year cover since it would not make a dent in the system's $83 billion unfunded liability. >> the exercise today was a huge disappointment. it was a farce from the get go just to be something to provide political cover. >> but it was the democratic governor who pushed for full- scale reform in the nation's most underfunded pension system, only to finish the day asking for reform adjust their own pensions. he blamed republicans on that. >> it is clear to me that we will not continue to engage with republican leaders who are not sincere about voting for public pens
