rick reichmuth. >> better than flying under that bad weather. s a big storm brewing and have wide reaching impacts for a lot of people. take a look at the weather maps. show you what's going on. very heavy rain. some areas well over 4 inches of rain. and that means we're going to be talking about some very big flooding conditions. in fact, right now, we have flash flooding going on across parts of central arkansas. i think that is going to increase over the day today. here is a look at your first alert forecast across the northeast. really warming up today and tomorrow. tomorrow warmer. big time snow with the melt coming. in down to the southeast. this is where we have the chance for potentially large and destructive tornadoes today across parts of arkansas, louisiana, and mississippi and western tennessee and kentucky. so, be very careful there. snow also five to eight inches of it where you see that white. out across the west we are going to have snow in the inner mountain west and cool temperatures as well. all right. send it back to you guys

chief meteorologist rick reichmuth joining us now from the fox weather center with what we expect in eral hours. rick? >> more snow. the snow is the lake effect snow they have this week and not at all to do with this storm system we are talking about. 58 inches of snow. five feet of snow this week across the shore of lake ontario. cold air is solidly in place across the north. across areas of the northeast. zero degrees right now in car boo, maine, gives you an -- cariboo, maine. look at indiana and illinois and toward ohio. we see it pred across the northeast. tonight we see the snow get heavy. there is a big change. areas across across northeast, coastal areas will see the snow we deal with turning to rain. it will keep the snow levels down from new york city to boston, expect to see three to five inches of snow accumulate on the coast. the interior sections are where we will see a few spots over a foot. that is good news across the ski areas. if there is one bright part to this, it's that a weekend. people can stay inside. >> absolutely. a lot of white stuff on the way. all right.

go to chief meteorologist rick reichmuth live in our fox extreme weather center. without a santa hat. >> today was santa con in new york, that annual thing where thousands of santas come out and drink basically on the street. i tell you what, this is what the storm is doing. you see all the pink. that's where we have written storm warnings in effect. 14 states under winter storm warnings. we're not done with this by any means. cold temperatures are solidly in place. kind of a line from around pennsylvania north in towards parts of new england. the cold air there. in the 20s along the coast. the first storm that brought a lot of snow today across missouri, illinois, indiana, ohio, and into michigan, seven to nine inches of snow causing big problems. rainy side to this storm and severe weather. tornado concerns across parts of florida tonight and very severe weather likely also across parts of the carolinas and eastern georgia. snow is tapering off across the ohio valley. the secondary feature of the storm is going to be a bit of a coastal storm that develops here o

rick reichmuth also with us as well.>> reporter: yeah, thanks for coming to me first so i don't have to stand out in the cold so far. we're not used to this weather here in texas. this is what people are digging out from. this is ice. it is what we're dealing with -- this is what we're dealing with around the dallas for the worth area -- fort worth area. take a look at this tree here. of you can see how the freezing rain has just really accumulated on the tree. so, obviously, that ice gets very, very heavy, and then this is what can happen. you can see it was so heavy, in fact, the weight of thec"x ice split this tree, and it is now on this person's house. this area is without power. in fact, nearly 250,000 people across the dallas/fort worth area without power right now, and you can see why once the ice accumulates on the trees i just showed you, it started -- starts to happening down on the power lines, and ininstances where the trees snap, the lines go down with it. take a look at pictures north of here in oklahoma. o

rick reichmuth is standing by, a tweet from murray holderman in montana.t's minus 32. >> in montana. the cold is extreme. the temperatures in the far northern rockies and plains seems crazy cold and it is for that area but it's crazy cold to the south. you're 1 degrees in midland, texas, and 21 in dallas and 4 in amarillo. factor in the wind, it feels colder than that. feels like minus 8 in amarillo, texas. it gives you an idea this cold has settled way far to the south. if you're in the southern areas you're not used to that kind of cold. a lot of people might not have heat in texas and arizona. phoenix at 32 degrees. big agricultural impacts from this storm or this cold air as well. this eastern coast storm where we saw this icing that's pretty much gone. little bit of leftover rain.% the cold stays in place and there's a new storm that is going to form. we're going to see this develop by tomorrow morning and you see that pink, that's potentially another bit of an ice storm across parts of kentucky. this time eastern kentucky and across parts of north ca

rick reichmuth tracking all of this.us weather phenomenon we have. you can't drive and do anything on it. you have ice and snow fell on top of it. temperature wise, you can see what's going on. very, very cold all across the west. the east is very oddly warm. we're 66 degrees in new york city right now. 70s down across parts of the coast. midnight last night in washington, d.c., it was 70 degrees. at midnight. very, very strange. we'll see very heavy rain continuing today. now it will be mostly across parts of south carolina down towards the panhandle of florida. because of that, still another batch here of flash flooding potentially across areas of the east. this is that rain. there's snow behind it and then, guys, there's an ice storm that will be ongoing today across northern parts of new york and in throughout much of northern new england. that will be a very, very bad one. this time talking about an inch of ice accumulating across all of that area. the tree damage and power lines out before christmas. a lot of peopl
