[laughs] >> that's exec and how it is spelled. isaias. names get contributed to by all the different countries, and the basin that storms impacted, this is one of spanish origin. isaias is the name. it centered in the southern promise, to the west of turks and caicos and cuba. the upper level winds are pretty disruptive and that's why we don't predict real significant strength from the storm as we move over in time. in fact, it was a category 1 storm with 80-mile-an-hour winds. those are down to 75 miles an hour. these are our hurricane models, all of them in really good agreement from this general direction. you'll notice almost the entire way it is really close to the u.s. coastline, that's why everyone from florida through georgia, south carolina, north carolina needs to be watching this really carefully. that said, the worst side of the storm is off toward the east, gen

rick reichmuth's got the latest for us. rick: yeah.ur first land-falling hurricane of this season even though we're already on the h name and we have some more things behind it. very early tale, the beginnings of hurricane season. this is hannah moving across parts of northeastern mexico, we still have only rain to fall, maybe another 2-3 inches, flood warnings in effect everywhere you see green and those red highlights are flash flooding because of all that moisture. i had said last hour, pete, and you're right that i thought hawaii was going to be spared ld, it's just so close. i shouldn't have written it off just yet. likely just to the north of the islands, that would put the islands probably in good position, but officially we're still watching potentially for a hurricane maybe around what wu wu -- work oahu and kauai. the worst of this thing off to the north. too closes to have written it off, i apologize. we're still watching that. also watching two different waves coming off the african coast, one of them likely to develop, and

rick reichmuth is tracking it all as the storm churns toward the coast. good morning. >> hey, griff, yeah, good morning. getting very close to the coast. going to run out of strength which is good news. center of the storm off the shore of texas there and it's really gotten its act together. had not forecast to be this strong but now at 70 miles per hour. 74 is that trigger where it is strong enough to be classified as a hurricane and almost there. can you see the rain with it. it is starting to see some of those rand bands move on shore . stronger and stronger until the center moves on shore. at this point looks to the south of the core tuesday christie area somewhere along south padre island. the radar looking very organized. i probably by the time we get the next advisory coming out, the next full advisory 11:00, i they this thing will probably be a hurricane. the temperature of the water certainly plenty warm. even though we are early in hurricane season here. already on our 8th storm we have a long ways to go here and the next couple of months are goi

hopefully rick reichmuth has never taken a python bite to the face. ick: all the times you have snakes on the show. i love the snakes. pete: i social distance from them, yes. rick: yes you do. you and jed definitely do. we have incredible heat building across parts of the south. you see the oranges? those are temps in the 80s already early this morning in the early hours. i bring that up in the nighttime, if you look for temperatures to cool down, things get exhausting. it starts to add on, the atmosphere is incredibly hot. we have a few areas of storms. a little bit of rain across parts of the northeast. another batch of rain across parts of ohio valley heading into kentucky. incredible storms overnight cutting across parts of oklahoma and into texas. that dying down a little bit. want to show you one thing. we have a lot of drought building across parts of the west. especially areas of southern colorado, panhandle of oklahoma and texas. a lot of ranching in that area, a lot of agriculture and we have a lot of drought going on. because of the persiste

we're going to pass it to rick reichmuth who's not a gophers' fan, but that's okay. e had our sixth tropical storm of the season, it was fay, and now it is almost done. we till have a little bit of moisture, this little rotation across parts of the adirondacks. for the most part that is kind of done, but watch this other little system that's developing right across lake erie. we expect some really big storms toward the buffalo area in about an hour, also parts of the far northern plains, some of this could be severe, southern parts of wisconsin, watch that. all right, sixth tropical storm of the season, that's where we are. the majority of all of our action happens from around the first week of august into around the first week of october. that's when we see the majority of it. we're already six storms in, so is so we're expecting to see a really active season. one other story we're going to be watching, and i think we're going to be talking about this for probably about the next week and a half, this incredible heat building across parts of the south, it eventually b

we're going to head out, and rick reichmuth has the forecast as we can see fay behind you. >> i'm gladou said beach. one thing we'll deal with a rip currents, so if you're at any of the beaches be careful, it's dangerous with the rip currents. fay came on shore yesterday, 50 mile per hour storm just to the north of atlantic city and pulled up right now across parts of the hudson river valley and is very quickly now pulling off towards the north. you can see that moisture there. it's across parts of new england, and that's the most moisture that we're dealing with from what was fay. that right there was circulation and a lot of it headed toward canada. behind that, kind of a system that pulled this storm north, a system that was bringing significant lane across parts of far western new york. we'll watch that careful. i'll tell you we're in hurricane season and we expect on an average here around 12 named storms. we're already six named storms in and none of them hurricanes, fortunately, but six tropical storms that got names. we are an expecting an average year this year. take a look wh
