rick sanchez the aptly named rick sanchez the host of in question millet's chan and the host of the world according to jesse former minnesota governor jesse ventura thank you all 3 for joining us all 3 of us were touched by larry king in his career in our time working with him here at r.t. and even before we came here to work at r.t. at the top of the show i briefly i briefly talked about just the few ways larry king impacted journalism through the medium of television and radio rick as a veteran newsman can you give our viewers an even better understanding of mr king's contributions and impact on the world of news and entertainment. there's nobody in television today who are ever or who was able to manifest interviews the way larry was and. very easily easily explained moves people have what is called a book or that bookers job is to call people and get them to be on the show that you book for the book or for larry king had the easiest job in the history of the world the hardest decision was not who you could get but who you were going to take up the ass on because it didn't matter whether it was a prime minister the actual president of the united states at the time a previous prime minister the most sensational entertainer in the world in the world whether it's in music were or in the world of acting it didn't matter everyone was calling to be on larry king's show that's how big larry was. and while larry may have given 50000 interviews jesse you've probably bee
rick sanchez. everybody i'm rick sanchez i want to bring up to date now and i want to welcome all of you watching us from all over the world including those of you who are watching us using the portable t.v. up in fact especially you who are watching us from around the world because you must be looking at this on this day and wondering what in the world is going on in the united states of america so it's usually an orderly process where one president loses an election the next president is coming in happens every 4 to 8 years and that next president must be affirmed by.
rick sanchez. our buddy i'm rick sanchez i want to bring up to date now and i want to welcome all of you watching us from all over the world including those of you who are watching us using portable t.v. up in fact especially you who are watching us from around the world because you must be looking at this on this day and wondering what in the world is going on in the united states of america so it's usually an orderly process where one president loses an election the next president is coming in happens every 4 to 8 years and that next president must be affirmed by the u.s. congress actually a joint session of u.s. congress which was what how what was happening this morning in washington d.c. when suddenly a group of people protesters following the order of the president of the united states went to the u.s. capitol not to be to be fair to the president ited states he didn't go and tell them to go to the capitol he did not tell them to try 1 and breach the capitol or break into the capitol but that's exactly what they did here's the video from earlier in the day when they started going over the barricades but they didn't stop there then they went up the stairs and then actually use some of those barricades to climb up on the top tier into the capitol where they actually broke in to the capitol as a matter of fact. these are the videos that we've been seeing throughout the day were it seems like they were manifesting that they were in the capital in fact there they are those are the protesters inside part of the cap. it all which we've all 'd come to see when we visited the capitol but you can't just get in there nearly willy whatever you want which is exactly what they did look at this picture we're going to show you now the police officers with their guns drawn look at the fear in the faces of the cops these are secret service agents realizing that people are breaking in and they're trying to stop them because remember there's a joint session of congress going on where just moments ago as this is happening both mitch mcconnell of the vice president had stayed said enough is enough they're going to follow the constitutional mandate and they're going to affirm the presidency of joe biden so it's it's been it's been amazing to watch and then there's the horrible news that of arizona. the fact here's the. boss 1st decision the people didn't think you know before they come in they reach the building secret service goes into the building and tells both the senators and the congressmen the house members there that someone has breached and that they all have to take their seats and then prepare to orderly leave which is exactly what happens after that but just as this breach is going on another side of the building among the people who were breaching the building was a woman who seems like a very young woman we've got video of her now being taken out in an ambulance you can see her in the stretcher and i think we're going to try and pull that video for you in just a little bit because i have sad news to report as we bring you this story here 3 minutes after 7 o'clock in the east coast of the united states this woman we're told has passed away. apparently she took a shot we don't know whether it was a rubber bullet or if it was a live ammunition we don't know at this point we haven't seen the autopsy report obviously we only know that several agencies including usa today and n.b.c. news and a.p. are now reporting that she has passed away becoming the 1st i imagine only at this point as far as we know casualty of this. today here in washington d.c. . so what is the situation now well it does appear that since 6 o'clock when the police officers started telling everyone to leave the capitol grounds and they've started to move them away from the streets that there are still stragglers but for the most part we are star starting to get an image of a quieter washington d.c. for confirmation of this let me go to ben swan he's my colleague better a journalist host of boom bust and he has diligently been following this story all day long ben bring us up to date. yes so as you mentioned rick it's a much quieter minus the police sirens here right there but there are very few people out right now no you know the last time we came to you all we got cut off because capitol police were moving everyone out what was happening at that moment was we saw the capitol police come essentially with their right shields and they moved everyone off the lawn of the capitol building and a large group of several 100 people remained in the street right in front and as they were in front of becoming increasingly agitated extremely angry. i want to say this you know when you i was in baltimore i was in ferguson when those riots happened there and i know you and your guests were talking earlier about what was happening and how to compare that to the kind of anger that i saw in those places is very similar rick to what i saw tonight in terms of the rage inside of people's voices and the anger they were feeling the anger towards police the anger towards capitol police the anger towards everything
rick sanchez and that is a wonderful introduction and i want to thank my colleague for doing that i'm rick sanchez let's get started. for those of you watching us from around the world including those of you using your phones on the portable t.v.'s we thank you there's so much going on in america on this day and we want to start with some breaking news that we've received just moments ago and it's it's sad news remember this story that we've been telling you throughout the day this is a woman who was one of the original protesters who tried to get inside the building breached the wall there at the u.s. capitol. apparently she was shot by police we assume using rubber bullets because we know they were using live rounds at least as far as we know. and we were just told moments ago this woman whose identity we still do not have has just perished she has just passed away she becomes the very 1st. casualty of this situation that we've been watching unfold here today in our nation's capital we did have pictures that we've shown you earlier that were actual video of the moment it happened but we've chosen now that we've learned that she's deceased just based on decency and journalistic principle that we're not going to show you that video but we do want to bring up to date on what's going on today here in our nation's capital it has been a wild day to say the least after the 2 representatives in the state of georgia won their election and after the president of the united states told protesters that they should go to the capital and speak their mind some of them took it beyond that and. actually breached the walls of the capitol as a joint session of congress was trying to affirm the presidency of joe biden the next president of the united states they did so and in doing so had a confrontation with police in fact you see them there taking down all those barricades they were able to use the barricades to get into the building and break into the building look look at this these are secret service literally with their guns drawn as the protesters are breaking into the building we have another shot take a look at this other shot we have it's the same essentially the same thing just a different angle look look at that this this is the tension that was caused when these protesters breached the walls of the 2nd tier of the capitol and then got in side of the building as congress a joint session there was trying to affirm the presidency something which is constitutionally mandated in fact here is the moment when the session was actually interrupted. and it was still in recess until the call of the. people boss' 1st decision the then thank you use it now one of the members will tell them everybody stay down you can see them waving their hands down as if to say everybody stay in your seat because we think that there are people in the building and they they were they were worried at that point that the protesters were coming in to attack members of congress so they filed them up one by one and then were able to get them out of the building many of them with gas masks to a location so they wouldn't be seen by the protesters it has been a wild and woolly day the situation now is. finally it's starting to get dark here in washington d.c. usually sun set is about over 530 or so it's now 6 o'clock in our nation's capital they have been in acting a curfew which started 3 minutes ago where they were finally starting to ask people to leave the capital area and. as far as we can tell that has been successful how successful we don't know we hope to be able to talk to some of our colleagues who are out there ben swann for for one who has been catching us up on exactly what's happening out there we should be able to hear from him in a little while but for those of you who normally watch r t america at this time as you probably know this is the time when you get to watch watching the hawks with both. and. and they're good enough to join us now i'm just going to be there helper on this day and help them kind of get through the information that we've all been watching unfold tyrrel has been good enough to join us to try to make sense of everything out there as well as i mean as we were starting to see some videos of this going on tyrrell i'll begin with you your sense of this new report that this this young lady. she's seen no more than maybe someone in her early thirty's maybe late twenty's has perished after being shot while trying to get into the capital it's truly heartbreaking and it's truly tragic that somebody had to lose a life today over what is ultimately a donald trump vanity project you know he stood in front of his people today and said hey we need to stop this vote we need to keep this from happening it's a fraudulent election basically filling their heads full of more of his own kind of lies and ego driven propaganda yes i'll say that because i'm an opinion talk show host that's my opinion but it is truly tragic that a life had to be lost today because these people felt that they needed to storm the capitol in order to put a stop to a vote that is going to be inevitable eventually no matter what happens the congress is going to ratify the congress is going to declare joe biden the winner you're not going to be able to get around that and it's truly heartbreaking that someone had to lose their life because of it i mean should help us understand for those who are watching and want you to put this in perspective a lot of people would watch this and say well they're protesting they have a right to believe what they believe some people in america were angered when they watch the black lives matter protesters what's the difference if there is any. well there is a huge difference 1st and foremost i do think that this started as a peaceful protest for the 1st probably couple hours these people have been gathering since early this afternoon however it quickly turned after they recognized that they were not going to get exactly what they wanted f.p. recognize that vice president might no power to change the election results or for states to go back and take back the election results that they've already started by mitch mcconnell previous senate majority leader also stood by the constitution and it made it really you know he couldn't do anything to help these folks either the interesting thing about this game and in d.c. we have seen peaceful protests before not just black lies matter black eyes matta protest even reached the size here is what we've seen of these protesters today and i mean i don't even want to call them that these were domestic terrorists at best they had i.e.d. bombs they had guns they barged in with bets but if we're going to compare i think that's something you could probably compare it to that was peaceful and still had millions of people was the 1000000 man march this was led by black people you had better come on you had several civil rights leaders who have literally stood in front you know argue for the rights of black people who cross this country who marched on capitol hill who brought their people here in intros and you did not see this type of action here we see people who are dead set on creating an environment of chaos an environment of threats and they were literally following the playbook that donald trump has tweeted about for the past few weeks that number 6 was a day to show up and show out november 6th was the day that they would take their country back you know be merciful the day that they would make sure president again even though millions of people across america have voted him out it is over for him and these people by any means necessary going to try to change that result and i think that that's why they're here and that's why we cannot call this a. peaceful protest by any means because the majority of people out there they're out there are they're out there. to do whatever they want to do you they are out there ready to grab and they are there because they surely believe line and sinker with all of your heart that this election was stolen even though there is absolutely no evidence to show that virginia officials are now saying they're going to be sending in $200.00 state troopers we understand that the national guard 'd will be more active now over the next couple of hours maryland's governor has said he said being in the maryland state police and the state national guard troops in d.c. to assist tyrrel to you one wonders what took so long and how it is that police officers there in the capital let this get away from that you know it's interesting i think the police officers in the capitol let it get away from them just because of the sheer numbers that you had as reported earlier today for us we're talking about the numbers that were out at the capitol and out by the white house and then coming over to the capitol has a lot of numbers for capitol police to handle but it does bring up a very interesting point whether black lives matter or protesting this summer you saw a much greater police presence and a much greater militarized police presence around those protests street by street block by block but here at the nation's capital there isn't one that also brings up the other question how many billions do we have we spent on security and other such things that they've said we absolutely needed and yet here you know couple 100 maybe a 1000 people just walk right into the capitol i've seen video of police at the capitol actually kind of parting like the red sea just letting them walk right by now we've seen the other videos as well that showed them putting up a much more larger fight but it raises a lot of very serious and very interesting questions about how we allowed this to happen and why do we treat to protrude protests so badly different let's remember also the black lives matter protesters are really there some are also fighting because law enforcement was shooting them in the dead in the streets and were fighting over those and were protesting over those issues what does this protest really over donald trump didn't win in the. action i mean there's 2 vastly different vastly different excuses to be in the streets one to me is honorable you're fighting to save lives within your community the other what are you doing you're fighting to save donald trump's political career you know something interesting is taking place right now it's it's happening in times square in new york this is actually trump pardon me and type trump protest protesting the protesters who are in washington d.c. it's a counter protest of sorts that we were told is taking place there in new york city interestingly enough seem to be almost in rock at fashion they're kicking their boots up but you know i will i will challenge the assertion somewhat tyrrel and maybe maybe i'll do this with me show and then of course you can certainly respond as well a lot of people would say the reason police were more assertive or more aggressive with black lives matter protesters was because there were some factions maybe whoever who got into their organizations or their protest and really did as we like to say in the neighborhood act the fool they really did break stuff they really did cause a lot of damage and when you get to that point police then have to take a different tone is that a fair argument ameesha. no and i say that because the police and police aggression has a long history in this country of responding at high levels when the person is black or brown and it is always been that case it has been that case when you stand outside and hold a sign and you don't have near uni being on you it has been that case in the absence of looting it has been that case when you were sleeping in your own bed in your house and you get shot and killed as a black person so no i don't think that that is actually or you know a case that we can use by and large on b.l.m. at all what i do think is there was a certain level of aggression that was used towards women because of it being a black activist organization and we saw that and we've seen it throughout history with black activist organizations as well as civil rights leaders email k. went to jail in the uk a had water hoses that were used on him or of the king had dogs that were used on him and he was the peaceful list of peaceful protesters so i'll definitely say that you know that that doesn't hold water for me what i do know is that when it comes to white protestors when it comes to white insurgents when it comes to white people who blow things up we see them walk away in nary a scratch on them police have always reacted to them with kid gloves and they continue to do so and today i would say that that has been something that we've seen play through at the capitol even though congress was in session even though senators were making this very important vote today we saw that they did not believe that they needed a more police even though there were thousands of armed people outside with the incident to create chaos and mayhem if those are people who are african-american were those people weren't armed and were african-american i guarantee you would have seen a lot more police presence and it's called watching the heart of a mission across tyro bonjour you guys were going to take a break stand by because i do want your take as well in the 2nd half of our show about what happens now to the republican party it seems to be on this day as much in disarray as at least i've seen it in a long time we'll talk about we're also going to be talking to a u.s. marshal he's going to create the strategy or draw. to help us understand what police will now do to try and deescalate the situation they find themselves and this is the news a break sanchez filling in for watching the hearts we'll be right back. listen welcome back i'm rick sanchez as an american and as a citizen of this particular city washington d.c. i join all my neighbors in wanting to see the situation come under control it has been a wild day and at times we just had no idea where this thing was heading to sans the interruption of a government process which was underway but we're now getting a sense since the curfew started that things may start to finally settle down for confirmation of that let's go to our correspondent who's been on the scene all day long diligently bringing us details of what's been going on ben swan now out there among them as they would say are things calming down bad. so so things are about to get a little bit rough here let's just pan over here next just so we have capitol police are coming through we've got to move on ok we're being told we have to move on by capitol police rick we got to go we got to go. all right or you see the police officer telling ben that
rick sanchez part of body i'm rick sanchez and i want to welcome all of you watching from around the world especially those of you who are watching us on your phones on portable t.v. you may have just looked at the images and wondered what in the world is going on in the united states of america while on this day when according to the constitution the pro-forma was that the senate and the house would meet in a joint session of congress to affirm the presidency of joe biden suddenly that was interrupted by what seemed like protesters who are arguing that they believe as have been told by the president had states that he actually won the election so they went to the capitol where he had originally suggested they go by the way the president states never suggested they break into the capitol he suggested that they protest at the capitol while the process is going on and this is what they did and these are the pictures that you're looking at right now thousands of troops supporters essentially sitting outside of the capitol protesting but then then things got a little more crazy and here's what happened we're going to start with a couple we've got a series of videos that we want to take you through to help you better understand how this story developed 1st they broke through a barricade just outside and i do believe we have that video kevin i don't know if you can pull it up or not and that may be one of the very 1st videos and you can see right there where the barricades were set up you see those barricades right there that you were just looking at now keep. of mine because i want to tell you something about those in a minute and then they went in and they stormed the capitol and by storming the capitol it essentially means that they were up against the capitol you see how high the capitol is it's essentially about 121314 feet for anybody to get up there but you see those barricades that you just saw are right there what they did is according to reports they took those barricades and they usually are horizontal right they took the barricades and they flip them vertically and then use them see them right there they use them as ladders and some of the folks taking those barricades the ones you see right there were able to use those barricades to breach the capitol building itself and that's when that's when the problem began we've got some videos i want to show you now from inside the capitol itself when they went inside which is really a kind of an eerie piece of video to think that these folks are inside and you see that window they broke through that window then they were going to try and come through and now hopefully will see that picture once again but as it opens up you see the secret service inside of the capitol pointing their guns at the protesters who are trying to come in all of this they are there is that picture they're trying to stop the breach but they were unable to we should tell you there was one woman by the way who was injured. we believe that she was shot with a rubber bullet as she was trying to get in let's take a look at this picture let's go sound up. ok there's the video of the injured woman. the disk the story we're getting is that the woman was shot. she may have been somebody who had breached the grounds of the building we don't know that is the assertion at this point. there you can see the wound and there you see her now being taken out of the building. again a woman who according to reports had breached the building they had to take they shot we assume that they used a rubber bullet which a lot of people don't know but those rubber bullets can cause a lot of problems so so here's what we have the bigger picture and this is the one that i think we need to be able to all understand is this is happening for 2 reasons essentially the political backdrop is this last night in the state of georgia 2 unexpected. new senators will be representing the state of georgia both democrats in a state that's usually will be red republican and the president of the united states has been making a lot of allegations and there you see it there is there are the new 2 senators from the senator warner started are also off the new senator from the state of georgia and again for those of you who may be watching us from someplace else and don't understand american politics the fact that georgia is sending 2 democrats to washington is in and of itself a major news story and something we would have been talking about all day today had it not been for what's going on now in our nation's capital while all of this is been going on we want you to know that there's something really important going on in the capitol and the both. president trump oh wait now we have some now we have some live pictures ok these are live pictures coming in. these are live pictures coming in from the capitol i don't know do we have sound up on this is or is there audio on this it looks to me like there is now ok let me let me describe this scene this is been going on for quite some time and police have been waiting to actually do something to maybe perhaps try and take the protesters away from the building it now appears they may be some kind of action on the part of law enforcement ben swann is out there ben can you hear me. where i ben slung at i can hear you rick yeah i can i can. it is best yes yes yes ok great i can hear you we see you now is this the police finally trying to push the crowd back. yet so this is been going on now for about the last half hour what we're seeing are a series of flash bangs that keep going off it's the upper part of this this platform area over on the left hand side back towards the building i have been told by multiple people who were up there and coming down that there is a large group of people who are still scuffling with police up there at one point some of those protesters took the pepper spray away from police and pepper sprayed officers so what the police are trying to do is they're trying to clear everyone off of these stairs and they're using those flash bangs if you used them now probably every few minutes to try to kind of clear people off and to bring them down they're using pepper spray and they're using flash bangs 2 quick things rick i was listening to your reporting one of the things that we have
