do you see rick santorum being a first-tier candidate again? josh: i think anybody can potentially be a first-tier candidate, but the problem for santorum is that he wanted last time in iowa, and he is pulling in single digits. he may be in a single digit so it is not a good reflection of santorum if people are supporting and at such a low level. the fear that his time may have passed, he may have had -- he may have a harder climb to the top. john: getting hot at the end, that is what happened in 2012. against a weak field. he got hot at the right moment. the problem for him this time is a much more crowded field, as we said before, and a lot more people playing in his lane. you think about mike huckabee, a prior iowa winner, and you think about scott walker and ted cruz, guys who are really strong. he will have a lot of time making space for himself and catching fire in that way. josh: among the social conservative field, his ties to the blue-collar workers areas his idea the last time around is that the party lost because mitt romney was a plu

so rick santorum did that today. it's a little awkward, because the last time he ran he lost his incumbent senate seat by 18 points to bob casey. he beat rick santorum in 2006, when rick santorum was the incumbent senator, bob casey beat him by 18 points. true fact. when rick santorum bounced back after that devastating loss in his home state and decided that six years later in 2012, he would run for president, rick santorum did great in that race in 2012, it was mitt romney who won the nomination for the republican party in 2012. the guy who very clearly came in second to mitt romney in the race for the nomination in 2012 was rick santorum. i mean you may remember in 2012, the iowa caucuses were screwed up that year, they finally did count the votes in 2012, it was rick santorum who won iowa. he then went on to win 10 more states after with a wash more states than anybody won against mitt romney. and that has set rick santorum up to make a compelling argument about why he ought to be seen as a top tier contender thi

"hannity" starts right here right now. >> welcome to "hannity" tonight. we're calling on president obama to break his deafening silence and finally speak out on the violence and chaos tearing apart minority communities coast to coast. there have been over 100 homicides in baltimore alone so far this year. and this of course comes after the tragic memorial day weekend where we saw dozens killed and dozens more shot in chicago, new york baltimore. just yesterday, josh earnest was asked how president obama feels about the surge in violence. >> we're certainly continued to be concerned about violence we're seeing in cities all across the country. i think it's an indication of how widespread this violence has become. there's no one simple answer to try and address this. this is certainly a challenge the president is ready to confront. >> he was so quick to rush to judgment on trayvon martin and michael brown. why? is it because it fit his narrative. meanwhile, he's ignoring a big underlyin

let's start with the first. >> so you have george pataki rick santorum lindsey graham announcing thishere could be 18 candidates in the race at this point. there's a few reasons. there's no obvious front-runner. a poll found among republican voters a five-way tie for first place with 10% of the vote. there's a lot of politicians thinking, look if i just raised myself a few percentage points i'm in the top tier. i can raise my profile. who knows, things may swing my way. the second is barriers aren't there anymore, namely money. thanks to the citizens united decision campaigns can rely on outside groups superpacs that don't coordinate with them to raise millions of dollars in donations in unlimited ams from wealthy backers. that can keep some candidates like rick santorum who has a megadonor behind him in the race for a long time. all this means there's not a lot of reason to stay out. >> there's not a lot of reason to stay out and great motivation to get into the race. but, we know with so many candidates jumping in there's the question will some injure the person who goes on to run i
