senate senate puts bill nelson ahead of the two-term republican governor rick scott 52/46. scottre essentially tied in a st. pete poll with scott receiving 49% and nelson 48. but a cnn poll conducted tuesday through saturday showed nelson begin to go build a lead with 50% to scott's 45%. scott's campaign is pushing back on these independent polls, releasing their own internal numbers that show scott leading nelson. national political corespondent steve kornacki is here, author of the book the red and the blue, the 1990s and the birth of political tribalism. what's going on that race in florida? >> yeah. look, there's a couple of things. there's a question whether of whether governor rick scott was going to get the a boost because of his handling of the hurricane. very well received by the public in terms of how he handled it, but you're not necessarily seeing him now suddenly take the lead, take charge in this senate race. it is difficult to be the white house party and to try to flip the mid material. in a state where the put might have won it by 20, 30 points, it's one thing. b

governor rick scott handed out water and talked about the devastation. the u.s. hasn't seen a storm like this in 50 years. they praised governor scotthis work and praised all of the recovery workers and first responders. mere in mexico beach, florida, the emphasis is still on recovery. the search and recovery teams from task force, florida's task force number two have been out in the debris again today. they have done their preliminary searches and more detailed secondary searches and came back and did targeted searches of last-known locations of individuals. still, as of this morning, they were talking about some 39 people who to this date are unaccounted for. loved ones still can't reach them. they took the shallow water boat took them in the back water to see if anyone may have washed up in any of those locations. there is a great emphasis on communications with bay county officials complaining bitterly about the telecommunications company and their inability to reach their own workers and get the word out to victims of the storm about where they can find aid, food, and water. they are having a hard time getting loved ones to con
