democracy coalition collected two hundred twenty six thousand signatures to put republican governor rick snyder's financial managers law on the ballot for repeal in november that's the law that allowed governor snyder to go into a city fire as local elected officials and then appoint a crony making a quarter million bucks a year to take over the city slash budgets cut public service and break union contracts but the efforts by stand up for democracy were squashed when two partisan republican officials on the state board of campuses last month refused to certify the signatures because they said the font size the type size on the petition was the wrong size. two other officials on the board approve the petition but the deadlock prevents the ballot initiative from moving forward now the coalition is fighting back appealing the decision of the state board of canvassers and trying to give michigan a say on whether or not their governor can take over a city the latest on what's going on in the wolverine state i'm joined by pastor david bullock president of the detroit chapter of rainbow push and presid

the issue is governor rick snyder's public act 4, the emergency manager law. it gives the governor power to swoop in and appoint emergency managers to take over cities and school districts that are financially in trouble. cities like flint, pontiac, and benton harbor, michigan, have already been saddled with it. labor says this is more extreme than anything in wisconsin. that's because the law busts up collective bargaining agreements. its anti-democratic. it's another template for radical governors everywhere to follow. but citizens collected more than 200,000 signatures for a referendum to be put on the ballot in november. they got 40,000 more than what they needed to get on the ballot. but the state board ruled the petition invalid because it did not use the correct font size. petitioners say that they used the right font size and that they say that the decision to vote against certification was politically motivated. the michigan court of appeals will soon rule on this issue. a valid petition would immediately stop the implementation of public act 4 until

michigan governor rick snyder is calling on congress to level the playing field between businesses anding the states to be allowed to charge a 6% sales tax on internet purchases. and this comes as the state law stalls in the house. 17 states have adopted such laws and some retailers are challenging them, saying only congress can regulate interstate commerce. and no such thing as a free lunch, but a new report shows that taxpayers are being cheated out of millions of dollars each year by the school lunch industry. the issue reportedly concerns the food management companies, giant corporations that schools hire which food to buy and where to buy it. the problem is that many of the companies are accused of pocketing the cash rebates from meal suppliers and the money is supposed to go back to the schools themselves. the alleged scam now prompting a nationwide fraud investigation, at least ten companies have been implicated so far. those are your headlines. >> dave: all right. let's check with rick reichmuth who has a check of our weather this mother's day. hey, rick. >> a pretty day for al
