would have gone for rick perry perhaps now have a choice between rick santorum, newt gingrich, mitt romney. what will they do? chris wallacehost of fox news sunday. what is your expectation now. >> reporter: i don't think they'll go to mitt romney. the -- we need to put those in context, there aren't that many rick perry voters. he was about 5% of the polls. there could be a difference if there was a very close race but otherwise know you would think that they would go overwhelmingly to gingrich and santorum not to paul or romney. there is a new poll just out, american research group which actually now shows gingrich in the lead 33% to 32% obviously within the margin of error. if we're talking about a one or two point race, you know, and you get some of those perry supporters going to beginning reufpt could be the difference between victory and defeat for newt gingrich. bill: bret told us that gingrich had been talking to perry's folks for some time might have been in the last 48 hours and the two men talked again and that's perhaps what convinced perry. if that plays out we might learn that in 34 minutes when peer recomes

rick santorrum and mitt romney. >> it was 18, now it's down to 4. we want to go to new york with chris wallaceo has karl rove and joe trippi. karl, do we have knowledge of the counties and what sort of numbers we may be looking at in it terms of vote tally? >> we will get tobothat. but you heard bret say, good news because we have keokuk county in. not so fast! karl rove has an inside source and it turns out that it may be more than just clinton county. go ahead? >> well, a source at the republican national committee reports that they may have two precincts from story county, which is in central iowa, northeast of iowa, east of des moines, where the numbers were incorrectly entered. and it may have undercounted the vote for rom ro. but we had keokuk county come in. this was a county where santorum was leading romney. and joe trippi and i both expected that this would expand the lead for santorum. instead, it collapsed it from 18 to 4 . the one precinct that is out is in clinton county, where romney is beating santorum in 2008, there were 1104 voters in clinton and there were 393 in keokuk coun

rick santorum by only votes. he -- 8 votes. he hopes to keep the momentum going for the first primary, that is tuesday. host chris wallacens us with a preview good morning once again chris. >> good morning melanie. >> tuesday is a primary explain the difference how do delegates get awarded how important are results there. >> reporter: it really isn't so much how the delegates get awarded it is how the voting goes in caucuses, they are held at a specific time, 7:00 p.m. central time you have to show up in a church basement you hear speeches from representatives of each of the candidates and then vote. if you are not there at 7:00 p.m. at night, last tuesday night you couldn't vote, a primary is like a general -- normal election the polls are open 12 hours, go before work, during lunch hour, after work. it is just you and the voting booth aren't a whole lot of other people there. >> there was a debate last night, another one this morning i know the candidates are out there trying to get their message out. ron paul is also your guest this morning, he is polling second in new hampshire why do you think he is showing so well.

wallace. up top governor huckabee said that he believes that tomorrow night and sunday morning, the republican candidates will gang up on rickntorum. they'll try to bring him down. you think that's going to happen? >> i think it's going to be a free fire zone, but that's certainly one of the things that will happen. there is a new wmur, big tv station in manchester, a poll out just tonight and it shows romney -- this is including two days after iowa polling after iowa. romney at 44%. paul at 20%. santorum and gingrich at 8. santorum had a bit of a bounce two days of polling were before the iowa caucuses. he was at 4%. the two days after the caucuses he was at 11. so he's higher than the 8. but the point is, romney is just swamping the field. he's got almost half the vote. i think there will be some attacks on romney, but i would think that gingrich and santorum and paul may go after each other a bit because they're each looking to be the anti-romney, as they go forward in the south carolina and florida, the person who is standing up against romney as his opponent. >> bill: there are a few interesting things in play. first of
