. >> ifill: and yet, reid wilson, rick perry, newt gingrich are prepared to spend money accusing mittney of vulture capitalism, as rick perry puts it. crony capitalism, as newt gingrich puts it. what is their strategy that takes them to some sort of opening there. >> well, let's look at the... one thing i think is important to look at is what south carolina voters are seeing and right now they're seeing two things: a very small number of positive spots, largely coming from mitt romney and a superpac that backs mitt romney and a number of positive spots coming from rick perry's campaign the other thing they're seeing the negative advertisements from rick santorum and newt gingrich blasting romney. there are two possible things that could happen here. one is this could backfire and mitt romney won't lose support and he ends up winning next saturday. the other, though, is that mitt romney's position does fall, negative advertising has an impact on both the candidate you're running ads against and yourself and therefore if another candidate is going to sweep into the vacuum created by any

rick santorum what would that mean? well, if mitt romney stint going for the hat trick in south carolina, he is actually one and one. g.o.p. pollster, what do you think, chris wilson>>guest: well, it gets the media talking about it and it is a huge win for rick santorum, a couple big wins in the last few days after the endorsement of the evangelicals that got together in houston and moving into that, it spells momentum and momentum matters, because we move into the primary on saturday the south carolina election, late breaking voters will be decided based on momentum and if rick santorum has that going into it you could see a situation coming at of saturday where santorum has won two out of three, a game changer moving into the next round of elections. >>neil: would it change sentiment in south carolina that those who were looking to vote for mitt romney, at least in all the substantial polls, not by a lot but he leads, they would swish saying i thought he was inevitable and maybe i will consider rick santorum or any of the other alternatives? >>guest: i don't think it makes the romney voters reconsider rick santorum. romney voters are romney voters. those who are

host: reid wilson, where does rick santorum fit in? have a path to victory moving forward. guest: i hate to say it, but i think rick santorum days are numbered on the campaign trail fit as i mentioned earlier, he is in missouri -- he was there yesterday. their primary next week does not actually allocate any delegates. it's sort of like competing in a contest that doesn't matter. none of the other candidates are campaigning here. it's curious that he decided to move there. at this moment, the big problem for all the not-romney candidates in february is they are living hand to mouth right now. absent a big win and a big influx of money, they will essentially have to survive a month of losses without taking in the kind of money that they will need to be on the air in the super tuesday states, for example. mitt romney has got that advantage. by the way, ron paul does, too. we've already seen ron paul advertising in places like colorado and thinking ahead. santorum and gingrich have not been present in those states. they've been focusing o
