first the fox extreme weather center and chief meteorologist rick wright, it is charting a course and appears to follow it. >> it makes it easier when the models are in good agreement for a number of days, you can feel good about it it is on within 20 miles one direction or the other and you don't see that often. we feel good about what is happening to it. by tonightble care and maryland and virginia getting pounded . surge in the bay and rapid water going into delaware bay. hugging the jersey coast and underneath that icon right there is new york city. tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.. look at the models. it gives you a good idea of what is happening. this is a pretty good model. you like to look at it. when it is so far opposite of what it is doing, you don't count it. >> where is west hampton right there. >> it is not that far. >> that's about right. yeah. but they're all right here. i cannot believe, we'll be talking about a landfalling hurricane or tropical storm around brooklyn and jfk airport. >> that's so weird. >> it is hard to imagine. anywhere to the east of it, getting pummel

for a look at how the storm is holding up where it is headed today, we turn to our meteorologist rick wright. >> rick: you get around 300 or 400 feet and it may with 25 miles per hour stormer. and the rain moved north of new york city . long island you are looking clear and don't be fooled. there will be more bands that circle through after we'll see more rain and the winds will continue. the winds are a story for the remainder of the day for tropical storm force winds. major flooding is the next concern. the rain is not over in parts of new england. if you key the maroon color that is flash flooding, most of the state of the new jersey and delaware and pennsylvania and areas of upstate new york and new england. we have more rain to come. heaviest of the rain, 17 or 18 inches in north carolina and virginia, that is done. we'll see it taper off in philadelphia and head to the north now and that's where the heaviest of the rain will be. mountains getting another 6 or eight inches of rain on top of what they have already received in the last couple of weeks. there is a major flooding concern on

and atlantic beach north carolina and near where irene came ashore and our chief meteorologist rick wright in the extreme weather center. rick, where are we? >> rick: it is not moving that quickly. when you get storps up here they move quickly . take a look at the pictures on twitter this morning and from the queens and typically clouds looking like this. low juicy tropical cloud formation . when you go outside it feels like you are in florida and doesn't feel like you are in the northeast. it is a very large storm and it is the size of this. that means it will impact the area for so many people .... it is not a small storm. it weakened in a category 1 and was a category 2 and 3 not long ago. it has a larger storm surge. and look in the cape lookout. and still over water through a lot of this area and it is not weakening when you see the storm make landfall. there is a lot of water right in here and it will not weaken as quickly. it will stay a category 1 hurricane all the way up before making a second landfall. tornado concerns and rain shield making its way over jersey and stretching the

chief meteorologist rick wright has not slept and in the fox weather center. starting with you, rick, where are we now? >> rick: storm came over the sound, it is weakened. but not completely over land, but over the sound. there is water to draw the strength. at least not diminish the strength and land that is here is marshy and flat. look how big it is. this is visible satellite imagery and the pictures coming from the satellite. you can see how big it is. people say it is a category 1 and weakening, but it was a category 2 or three and it is so big impact is far-reaching. the center of the storm came over cape lookout. and cut over there and trending to the north with a northeast job. heavy rain following and few thorn -- tornados have been reported [check] rain now heading in the central park of new jersey and central new york city. this is 18 or 20 hours before we see tropical models have been good with the storm. sometimes they are not in much of an agreement. they are in good agreement. look at this is the model. it is out lying one you don't pay attention

rick? >> kelly wright for us in washington. thanks very much. we have been focusing our attention on the jersey coast. atlantic city is a ghosttown on saturday night at the end of august, which is not usually the case. let's check with rick leventhal near the casinos. what's the latest there? >> reporter: well, it's raining here, still. wins not significant. this is the first mandatory evacuation of atlantic city in its history. and earlier, this evening tappeared it was a wise decision because the streets were flooding, especially the side streets and the weather was very, very rough and it looked incredibly dangerous on the roads. since then, it's calmed down significantly. fortunately for the police who are patrolling pacific avenue here, very few people out. they don't have a lot to worry about. they didn't have a lot of 911 calls because most of the people did heed the evacuation orders, but at this point, it appears -- i know the storm is not completely passed, but it does appear as if atlantic city has dodged the worst and the predictions
