i think the inclination is to think, oh, yeah, rick, he was the lead guy at the time. what i have read a couple of places is that at the time duke started, rick was doing a lot of work on the west coast and so he wasn't really involved. i mean, i think he must have been involved somewhat, but you don't find his name mentioned much in relation to duke. and in the same way, horace trumbauer, his name is written all over the place, he signs everything, it became clear in the -- you know, 20th century that really julian abele did most of the drawings. he was the first african american graduate of the architecture school at penn. so he's really responsible for all of the buildings, even though i'm confident horace trumbauer should not be completely left out of the conversation. so what about duke? so if rick's out of the picture, what -- the job of designing at duke fell to percival gallagher, one of my favorite names. so gallagher was a graduate of the bussey school at harvard. very horticulturely oriented. he designed a lot of parks and estates. he worked at swarthmore. d
i think the inclination is to think, oh, yeah, rick, he was the lead guy at the time. what i have read a couple of places is that at the time duke started, rick was doing a lot of work on the west coast and so he wasn't really involved. i mean, i think he must have been involved somewhat, but you don't find his name mentioned much in relation to duke. and in the same way, horace trumbauer, his name is written all over the place, he signs everything, it became clear in the -- you know, 20th...
