earlier, i spoke to republican strategist rina shah. by about the significance of a second whistleblower coming forward. i think those things can be mutually exclusive because there is a reality here. there are democrats who did not call for this president's impeachment from day one. if you look at the background. speaker pelosi, i think, she waited some time, she kept her caucus acquired. i think, like many of us, i say this i would not vote for him for re—election. i supported him after he was elected. those of us who said, let's give him a chance, let's let him govern. three years in now. when we see the ukrainian transcript. that to me was the final straw. nancy pelosi has given him enough time to defend himself. when it's in black and white. the president asking for a favour, to potentially eliminate the challenger, a fellow american. that right there tells you everything you need to know. he does not grasp the severity or the constitution. it's interesting to hear. impeachment is a political process. america or the democrats shoul

he worked in three democratic administrations, republican strategist rina shah, and conservative commentatorn nbc think contributor. let's start with congressman rooney, who is not saying he is for impeachment or for an impeachment inquiry, but he is saying he's thinking about impeachment. and now we have this retirement news. what do you make of all that? >> well, yesterday i heard congressman rooney's interview with npr, and it was also very much the same. like you said, he did not come out saying i want impeachment, i want it now. he expressed great concern for acting white house chief of staff mick mulvaney's comments and also gave cover there, saying that i like mick as a person, i've worked with him in the past, he's done great things. i think what we need to really look at, though, here, is that how very convenient for this republican who criticized the administration yesterday to today announce that he's no longer seeking re-election. we knew this. we knew his district went for trump wholeheartedly, but also that he has broken ranks with trump before on things like climate change. so
