and the rnc is going up with an ad on national cable today hitting the president on the economy. the first of four ads they are releasing in the next month. let's take a look at this first one. >> left turn after left turn. america is headed the wrong way fast. 6 million foreclosures, 14 trillion in debt, 500 billion in higher taxes and the worst long term unemployment end generations. don't let obama drive us to disaster. change direction. >> here to explain the strategy behind the rnc's new ad, the chairman of the republican national committee. so you're going up this early with a tough ad on the president. why? >> well, i mean, we have to, obviously, get our economy turned around and we see the president as a person who just doesn't get it. the evidence is very clear on the trajectory that we're heading in this country. i've talked about it many times and so has many people, obviously, around the country that, you know, we're facing a trajectory under this president's watch of a debt that's so out of control that he's going to end up under his policies accumulating more debt t

bob, do they get copies at rnc or don't they care about what the american people think? >> well, they have a fundamental dilemma, al. and that is that people like mcconnell and people like boehner understand that this is now becoming a real political problem and that they can back themselves into a box canyon that they can't get out of. so they are looking for way out. boehner was willing to do a grand bargain with the president. wr whether it be $4 trillion of cuts, revenue enhancements spread out over the next ten years, he ran into terrible trouble with his own caucus and with a possibility after kof a cou pe from eric cantor. the tea party is going to pass the house with republican votes. it may or may not pass the senate, though i think it won't. if it passes the senate the president will veto it. it won't be overridden. the veto can't be overridden. then i suspect we fall back to the mcconnell plan slightly satisfied by what harry reid has been suggesting, which is -- >> before we go back to the harry reid thing, michael steele, let's get serious. we are talking ab

cash on hand, the rnc reports it has 7.3 million and the rnc says its debt, its debt is down to 17.5.ast week, drew, the democrats, the dnc released their numbers. this pales in comparison. what the republicans raced pales in comparison to what the democrats raised. they raised $38 million in the second quarter in conjunction with president obama's re-election campaign and about $58 million the first half the year, drew. >> they're flush with gas while the government is going broke. anyway, we're hearing that representative leonard boswell of iowa and his family were victims of this home invasion. this is a big political story that involves crime and shotguns and iowa. >> it's a pretty shocking story out of iowa. you mentioned drushgs, leonard boswell is a democrat that's 77 years old and was the victim of a home invasion this weekend in iowa on saturday. now, the details from the congressman's office go like this. again, pretty stunning details. this intruder entered congressman boswell's home through the front door, physically assaulted his daughter, demanded money at gunpoint. at s

if you read his rnc nominating speech, it's all about how he supposedly grew up in a shotgun house inle class -- i mean, this is the grandson of a senator, this is the picture of american aristocracy who turns himself into this, and how does he take down the democrat? flag burning. the image of the supposedly unpatriotic '60s, and he turns him into this. that's what it becomes. how does it go in 1992? so now you've got this out of touch president who doesn't even know what a supermarket scanner is, right? versus a guy, and this is kind of on the edge, bill clinton, this picture of him on the edge of the '50z. george bush tries to turn himself into the fighter pilot, you know, the brand of the '50s. and he uses allegations of burnt draft cards and protesting the war to try to make america see bill clinton as this. now, granted, that is bill clinton. [laughter] in 1996 it plays out again. you have bob dole, a consummate washington insider, running against a conservative democrat, and his tactic is to turn himself back into the '50s. and say that bill clinton is as liberal as the image,

as the rnc sees an opportunity to gain some traction with hispanic, who in 2008 delivered to presidentnally by over 30 points it's putting out spanish language ads in an attempt to put dings in the incumbent's armor. the blast of radio and internet tv ads takes aim at the economy and the unemployment rate which is over 11% for hispanics which is higher than the national average. they are being run in nevada, new mexico and colorado. in response the democratic national committee released its own spanish language ad under scoring obama's commitment to the latino committee. they say regardless of the last election the democratic party can't take anything nor granted. >> they are concerned that this could always be a competitive constituency, and that a lot has happened nationally in terms of issues that had a great deal of affect on latinos, and they might be very open to arguments from different candidates about things like immigration reform, or about the state of the economy. >> reporter: and when it comes to nevada, new mexico and colorado recent history we're told isn't necessarily a

also on the ticker, the rnc is targeting hispanic voters in three key states, nevada, new mexico and that president obama won just by single digits in the last presidential election. they're also going, they've put out an ad and going to be putting out a spanish language ad. the thought is maybe they can make some headway because while unemployment is at about 9.2% overall in the u.s. for hispanic americans it's higher at 11.6%. and then also something of note that we learned during the briefing yesterday from white house press secretary jay carney. it appears the president is coming a click closer towards endorsing even more rights for same sex coups. carney saying the president supports something called the respect for the marriage act. this is a bill going through the senate, through the committee process right now. it's an outright repeal, that's what it proposes of the defense of marriage act, the same-sex marriage ban. we'll be watching this and going to have a story shortly because this hearing is going on right now. it's the first hearing of any reglation that would outright
