announced the sunshine state will buck the rnc earlier than expected. to hold on the last day of january. so if florida goes on the 31st, here's the best guess of what the calendar is going to look like. new year's in des moines. the iowa caucus could take place as early as the first thursday like it did four years ago in january. with new hampshire following five days later on the tenth. and nevada on the 17th. south carolina then maybe the 21st. alternately, a january 9th iowa caucus. same night as the bcs championship game. might have a problem with that. then move everything about a week later. that puts new hampshire then on the 17th. nevada on the 24th. south carolina on the 28th. florida on the 31st. what we'll find out in a couple hours is what south carolina is going to do. with florida the 31st, south carolina republicans and particularly those that don't want to give mitt romney a lot of momentum or an easy excuse to skip south carolina are probably going to be hesitant about going the 28th. so they may go saturday has been their tradition. w

what about rnc chairman reince priebus. does it merit consideration in your mind?well, i think you have to do the right thing and listen to what exactly is going to be in this bill. i don't think we'll find out very soon what it is. we've learned that this president loves to talk but we haven't seen a whole lot of details so we'll see. but, you know, my view of his speech was that it was an absolute fraud and it was a fraud because he told the american people that everything was paid for in this bill. so what he's proposing is spending yet even more money in a stimulus that, remember, didn't work the first time. it's put us in the ditch. he wants to spend more money but now he wants the super committee, this other group that's supposed to find all these other cuts in spending to add on to those cuts that they need to find, the $400 billion that he wants to find. he was whining about trade agreements that weren't taken care of. guess what, brian, they're sitting on the president's desk. they've been sitting there for over three years. >> and part of the problem is u

in a couple of days, all the states, parties, primaries, and caucuses, they have to report in to the rnc exactly when their primary dates are going to be, when their filing deadlines are going to be. their first ones are going to come in mid to late october. what that's your time line. we'll know in the next 10 to 12 days when will chris christie fully change his mind but the door is open a crack. christie's nonannouncement came after a speech on leadership that certainly sounded like he was presenting a case for the presidency. the speech really was a rorschach the test with a little something for everyone. if you were a tea party conservative, this idea fired you up. >> the biggest challenge we must meet is the one we present to ourselves. to not become a nation that places entitlement ahead of accomplishment, to not become a country that places comfortable lies ahead of difficult truths, to not become a people that thinks so little of ourselves that we demand no sacrifice from each other. we are a better people than that, and we must demand a better nation than that. >> independents l

it all, we're joined by former pennsylvania governor and nbc political analyst ed rendell and former rncnd msnbc political analyst michael steele. chairman steele, i'll get to you in a second. the pennsylvania man first, governor rendell, there seems to be a lobbying effort here that's growing somewhat nationally to try to stop pennsylvania republicans from doing this. make your best case of why you think this is a mistake. >> well, first of all, it's embarrassing. it's embarrassing because pennsylvania could wind up essentially saying that some votes are worth more than others. it would be like, chuck, if we changed the rules for governor and i won my first election, 15 out of the state's 67 counties but i was elected governor because i won the more populous counties. if we said the governor gets elected by how many counties he carries. it's disenfranchising voter. president obama could win by a landslide. after this redistricting that's going to come up, he'll lose 12 of the congressional districts, win 6, get two votes for carrying the state and lose by four electoral votes the state
