eight term congressman mike honda is facing a second challenge from attorney ro khanna. nda narrowly beat kahn na two years ago. now kahn na, also a democrat, is highly a lengthy house ethics probe into congressman honda. but the congressman is alleging khanna's campaign hacked into his campaign donor list. kqed senior editor for politics and government scott shafer talked with each of them earlier. >> joining me now is congressman mike honda, who represents district 17 in silicon valley. good to see you. >> good to be here. thank you. >> you're running for a ninth term in congress. what would you say from where you sit, what is the biggest challenge today facing silicon valley? >> i think in silicon valley, the two big areas is the inequity in salaries for service workers, and i think the other is housing. housing is such a big issue in our district. >> and are those issues that you, as a congress member, can do something about? >> well, there are roles that we can play. for instance, working with hud. i had joaquin castro come down for an extra day to visit our homeless

politicians are bought and paid for before ever stepping foot in office. >> reporter: an actor plays ro khanna seen taking a call from a wall street donor and drinking champagne. it suggests khanna would outsource jobs. >> i was hurt, because it had an indian american actor playing me. i would never do that. i thought it crossed the line. >> reporter: we watched the ad with khanna who called it misleading. another one calls attention to lawsuits against khanna's campaign manager. >> what is sad to me is they're false and play on racial stereotypes. it's not the mike honda i knew. >> he can call it whatever he wants to. ask him if he's going to deny he didn't take money from those people saying he did. >> reporter: at a campaign event with actor danny glover, honda pointed to khanna's attack ads, calling him an embarrassment. accusing him of sleeping on the house floor. >> in 15 years, honda only passed one bill to name a post office. >> now that he really wants to go down that road of saying that i'm unethical as if i had broken a law or have faulty character, that's pretty offensive to me. >>

a ro khanna ad brings up honda's ethics investigation. a honda ad talks about a federal lawsuit against ro khanna's campaign manager for allegedly getting into honda's database. >> it's not the mike honda i knew. he would never have done something like that. >> ask him if he took money from those people saying he did. >> a professor said while negative ads can provide new information about a candidate, it can back fire. some voters may be turned off by it. >>> walnut creek police arrested two firefighters after reports of drunk people at a hotel. the call came in at 5:00 sunday morning hours after the firefighters ball at the marriott walnut creek hotel ended. police say one of the firefighters attacked the officers who came to the hotel room, injuring two officers. both firefighters along with two women were arrested. the firefighters have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. >>> a funeral service set to take place today for a bay area sailor who died at sea. 23-year-old danielle lucky was on board the u.s.s. ron
