we all try to avoid pot holes and bumpy roads... but if your commute takes you in and out of the san francisco- oakland area... a study found it's almost impossible to miss them all. every couple of years... a washington d-c based non-profit called trip, researches, evaluates and distributes economic and techcial data on surface transportation issues. this recent study focussed on the nation's major urban roads... and found a third of them to be rated in poor condition... with san francisco-oakland and san jose topping the list. one and two on the list... with the study finding 71 percent of the roads are in poor shape for san francisco-oakland... and 64 percent for san jose. what this equates to... is drivers are incurring additional repair costs, accelerated vehicle deterioration, and increased maintenance costs. the study found motorists commuting in and out of san francisco-oakland to incur the highest annual vehicle operating costs of 1,049 dollars. whe san jose motorists were paying 983 dollars per year.carolyn kelly / trip re
