the really heavy stuff is west of the roanoke area. here in baltimore 41 with the current air temp well above freezing. even if we were were to see a stray showers, it would be a liquid type showers. all of that will be on the lower eastern shore and southern maryland, not for baltimore north. upper 30s on the shore. any wintry precip won't stick. in charlottesville that's a wet snow. satellite radar pictures telling the tale. most of it is locked into southern virginia. some of it is edging up the southern part of the chesapeake bay. the setup is a dry one. we have high pressure in control. wrapping around that very dry air. some of the precip edges in and evaporates on the way down. the moisture is coming out of the carolinas. that's where our snow totals will and up being. future trend in the next few days clear. we'll warm it up, southwest breeze is kicking in saturday, going to make for pretty mild weather for at least the afternoon. again, that cold air is not going to hold tight. we'll see a bounce back temperature wise. friday

these are from norton, virginia, roanoke area. working to clear streets. you can see the snow piled up to the side of the roads there. still covering some streets. they got, i think, and tom will confirm this. i think they got upwards of 12 inches of snow this that part of the state. >> yeah, indeed. southwestern virginia. that was the area that got the heaviest snows. there were some locations on the north carolina border. they got 14 inches of snow there. now, as we take a look at what has been happening, this is the way it looked about 12 hours ago. 6:20 p.m. heavy snows at southwestern virginia. west and north of richmond, it was starting to change over from rain to snow. the storm track was about 50 miles farther south and anticipated as a result we had a no impact storm here in washington. we had that snow around southeastern virginia around 2 to 6 inches from richmond down south. it's cold. all the air ras in the lighter blue above freezing. dark blue below freezing. the winds out of the north and west will keep us in the 30s throughout the day. for

snow totals topped out at 11 inches, around blacksburg 6 1/2, roanoke with 7 inches. check out the storm on sentinel radar. it's a very impressive system. it just did not hit candlelight vigil we're watching a big -- hit d.c. we're watching a big convergence system. as this system works its way to the coast, it will begin shutting off the moisture, but if you have to travel to the south tomorrow, that's where you'll find some of that snow. most of the advisories for d.c. have been canceled. they're still in effect for st. mary's and calvert counties, but i think you'll only get a trace down there. the winter storm warning is where we'll see the heavier totals and that amount will likely come in probably somewhere from 2 to 4 inches. we know we had jackpot totals in southwestern virginia, but that is safely out of the d.c. area. just heads up for traveling later. that's where you may find some slick spots in the morning. there's lots more going on in weather including the coldest air of the season showing up on the seven-day forecast, talk about that a bit later. >> a
