(pam) kron 4's rob fladeboe was in the santa cruz mountains ...a known trouble spot for commuters. nats (3 car wreck on highway 17)like oil and water, highway 17 and rain just do not mix very well. and just like clock work, drivers were mixing it up amid several accidents like this three car fender bender near redwood estates. as a result, traffic would grind to a halt off and on throughout the day.the rain was heavy at times, especially over the summit where visibility was very poor at best and the pavement slippery. behind the wheel, you can feel the loss of traction when you come into valley surprise or big moody curve and hit one of those puddles caused by a backed up storm drain. water likes to pool here at the on and off ramps. busy bear creek and other mountain roads are seeing a lot of runoff too. it's been windy with gusts above 30 miles per hour. that kept p.g. and e crews busy with power outages and downed power poles like this one on old mill pond in los gatos. not far away, george alfs was keeping an eye ona slide near his home on hut
