we got a quick check of the weather with rob marciano in atlanta. from wall, new jersey. >> yeah, when you go upstate to where they have that 2 feet of snow that you mentioned, we're going to have situations that people already out without power. more power lines coming down, you get rain and wet snow on top of that, well, roof collapses in some area. that's entirely possible. that kind of scene is going to slow down quickly as we go through the next 24 hours. radar scope, snow on the west. rain on the east. there are flood watches out for parts of connecticut and massachusetts. and the rain/snow line from the new york freeway to about the jersey shore, you can see new york is trying to change over to snow. everything's goes to pivot sarnd new york city. knowing in philadelphia, has been all morning long. it will remain snow through the duration of this event. it's a matter of how much you get. 6 to 12 expected from philly to new york. new york will be more wet snow. you go north and west of the city, jersey and eastern pennsylvania, scranton could s

rob marciano has the details for us.et a quick check of this morning's weather headlines. >> good morning. this is an interesting scenario setting up. we had three major snowstorms so far this winter and this is the fourth one. it's different setting up wise. we have one, two, and three things coming together and looks like they will do so over the new york metropolitan area. the timing of this will be the key and how these guys get along is the extent of the party. meanwhile today if you're traveling with the leftover snow and rain storm from yesterday we have problems in new york and d.c. and atlanta and in chicago as well. look at the snowfall amounts in texas. some of these record breaking waco seeing 3.1 inches of snow. southern part of the snow active. mixed precipitation down in the deep south. meridian, mississippi reporting snow. we don't expect a ton of accumulation. not a whole lot of advisories out that gets into the carolinas. probably begin to see a couple of inches of snow. this is the upper level part, th

rob marciano is keeping track of all of this this morning. e four-wheel drive in some parts. hey, rob. >> good morning, kiran. >>> this storm is gathering strength along the gulf of mexico and gathering a lot of moisture. it's still cold across parts of the northeast. that is the recipe for yet another winter storm. huge expanse of moisture from nebraska all the way down to the mexican border. you can see it stretches now all the way towards the atlanta area. the rain shield with this is pretty widespread. the moisture from top to bottom in the atmosphere is pretty deep. so plenty of rainfall to go around. we will see some patchy flooding today, and then tomorrow it turns into snow along the appalachians and up through the mid-atlantic and through the delmarva especially. the question is how far north does it get? it may skim new york city, but we're pretty certain it's going to hit d.c. and philly and baltimore with a significant snowstorm, maybe as much as 15 or 20 inches in some spots. we'll continue to fine tune this forecast. much more in

reynolds wolf is live in al alexandr alexandria, virginia, and rob marciano is live in the cnn weather xercenter. let's start with rob. hi, rob. >> this storm is happening, the second of the season. the first one coming the third week of december, a record breaker there, this one could be another record breaker. let's go to the maps. it's starting with heavy rain across the south, even severe weather across the gulf states. a lot of moisture with this. just like the last time, it's heading into cold air north of the north carolina/virginia border. there you see it's turning into snow at times it will switch over to sleet but for the most part it will stay all snow as we go through the next 24 hours. look at all the watches and warnings posted. everything in red is a winter storm warning, the pink in jersey and delaware is a blizzard warning. we expect to see over 20 inches of snow in and around the washington, d.c., area. how much snow new york gets is still a question, probably in the likes of four to eight inches. if the track of this thing shifteds any further to the north, new york
