there were taxis out yesterday, rob marciano, i think we made contact with rob in long beach. how is it there? >> i can finally hear you now. we've taken quite a beating the past couple of hours, anderson. our satellite truck had to be moved back away from the beach. the board walk has been taking some hits from the surf. we're aetch proing high tide. i'm not sure how much you can see. we're broadcasting via internet by the way. behind me is this board walk and beyond that are a series of 12 and 15-foot berms built up the past couple days in order to protect the town from getting an influx of water. also to protect the lifeguard headquarters of long beach which just in the last 20 minutes has been taken off its foundation and slammed into the board walk. the lifeguards and the police department have been out there to assess that situation. that is pinned right now against the board walk as the full force of the atlantic ocean is pounding the board walk here. i just stepped back on to the board walk, then you get a sense for the winds here on the coastline. we've had winds gust

rob marciano is in the extreme weather center. good morning, rob. >> good morning, guys. that heat and lack of rain, obviously, exacerbated the draught situation. we've been keeping what's called the drought monitor for about 12 years now and this deep, deep red that you see here that's what we call exceptional drought. that's the most extreme drought conditions and this is the largest footprint that we've ever seen encompassing a huge percentage of the lower 48. that gives you an idea of how much this heat has really affected the drought situation there. the heat continues although the footprint for the advisories and watches has shrunk a little bit. that's encouraging, although if you live in dallas, it's not all that encouraging. 108 is what we expect to see today for a high temperature. are we going to cool down, break that record of 42 days in a row of 100 degree plus days. tomorrow we're up to 106. do we cool down at all come thursday? not really. looks like we will especially as we get towards friday and saturday and next week we'll probably cool down a little bit.

i talked to rob marciano on the tweet he said maybe iceland. they can keep turning to the right. you get up here to georgia and the carolinas, the wind aloft is from the west so that's why it keeps wanting to turn to the right because the wind comes from the west. if you've been to the british virgin islands the wind is from the east that's why hurricanes come from the wind, the trade winds.
