rob marciano joining us from portland, oregon, where the extreme heat is reaching historic levels. it is going to be another hot one. hey, rob. >> hey, good morning, eva. we shattered the record yesterday reaching 108 degrees here in portland. measured in the shade, never before have we recorded a temperature that warm here, and unfortunately with this heat wave, we're just getting started. >> reporter: this morning, an unprecedented heat wave expanding across the west. >> unfortunately we're starting to see this year after year. it is getting hotter and hotter. >> reporter: the pacific northwest experiencing life threatening temperatures. seven states in the heat wave. 33 million people under heat alerts. some all-time records likely to fall. >> to have such hot temperatures in june is historical. we haven't had anything like that. >> reporter: seattle and portland could see temperatures up to 30 degrees above normal. hydration is key in the heat, especially for those who live on the street. this county has 80,000 bottles of water now being delivered to those in need. >> the window

. >>> let's turn to the weather and rob marciano in portland, oregon, where they're dealing with a hugee. rob, good morning, once again. >> hi again, dan. if only we could get some of the rain falling in the midwest here in the northwest, we are unfortunately heading into the dry season and have this historic heat wave going on. what's happening in the midwest is pretty horrific on the wet side of thing, severe weather yesterday across parts of kansas and with 75-mile-per-hour winds on top of that this area also saw four, five inches of rainfall so flooding on top of damaging winds that brought trees an power lines down. just over the border in missouri ten inches falling in the last 24 hours so this is really startling stuff swamping cars and some of the commercial businesses there. all right. flash flood warnings north and south of kansas city right now. st. louis as well. detroit, you're in it too. watches from northern texas all the way to michigan, this front slowly moving isn't moving fast enough for us so severe weather on the southern side and in michigan but several more rounds

millions waking up to that spectacular ring of fire, partial solar eclipse and rob marciano, well, heminneapolis. good morning, rob. >> what a ride, michael. i hope you got a look. i'm sure it was pretty spectacular from the ground, but i got on board with 37 other eclipse enthusiasts on this plane. what did you think of the eclipse on "gma"? i mean some of these guys have been to all of them the past like 30 years. they are definitely addicts to say the least. we got up there. this is a rare eclipse that over the northeast part of the country and up and over north pole so we had to get on a plane and go into canada so we could see the annularity. not quite total because the moon is just a little farther away than 2017 but enough to get that ring of fire which was indeed spectacular. very bright. about three-quarters of the atmosphere is below where the plane was flying so it was really, really bright but nonetheless very spectacular. the next one coming in 2024. that's going to be the next great american eclipse. this is a great warm-up for that. that one a lot of people will be able
