senior meteorologist rob marciano tracking it again tonight for us. hey, rob. >> reporter: hi, david. we're still dealing with this historic storm, not just with that tornado in december in minnesota, but several states, winds to 100 miles per hour. we still have wind advisories up for parts of michigan and the northern tier, but that front is dragging its heels and digging in across the ohio river valley. that's where the rain is across the tornado zone. and we have a wave that's going to develop tonight through tomorrow. so, several days of pulses of heavy rain, up through bowling green and lexington and getting a wintry mix by saturday morning. this is not clear of the tornado zone until saturday night. david? >> all right, rob marciano, our thanks to you again. >>> we move on here tonight to sun etling new allegations against "sex and the city" star chris knonoth. two women have come forward with separate claims of sexual assault. the actor responding, calling the accusations categorically false. here's abc's erielle reshef. >> reporter: one week

let's get right to abc's senior meteorologist rob marciano, and rob, you're tracking those dangerous fire conditions in colorado. when are the winds expected to finally let up? >> reporter: we expect the strongest winds, whit, to retreat into the foothills over the next couple of hours, but this has turned out to be a historic what we call a mountain wave event, and it's going to flip the switch to snow, as will mentioned. we have advisories that are up in the colorado area and now winter storm watches that are posted for kansas city and chicago, as this low that was in california emerges into the plains. it will bring a severe weather threat again to the mid-south tomorrow. but icing conditions in kansas city by saturday morning. lincoln will see some snow. that presses into chicago and detroit by saturday. heavy rain across the area. they got the tornadoes two weeks ago. and an expansive severe weather threat across the deep south and mid-south where tornadoes will be possible in big cities like shreveport, birmingham, atlanta, and nashville. this is a historic holiday high impact

and abc's senior meteorologist rob marciano is tracking it all. rob, where could the roads really get icy tonight? >> reporter: well, a good chunk of the northeast, whit, especially away from the water. we'll show it to you on the radar here. the purple area, that's where all the winter advisories are out for much of eastern pennsylvania, a good chunk of new york, and new england. and mostly in the form of sleet and freezing rain. a little bit of snow mixing in there. that comes through, mostly clears out by 3:00, 4:00, 5:00 in the morning. so, the morning rush should be okay, but there will be leftover slick spots then if you are getting out to go to work. so, be aware of that. it does stick around. it will be chilly in the morning. another blast of snow and rain coming into the west. look at the advisories up. avalanche warnings. that's becoming a huge problem. wind, as well. 16 feet of snow falling, that's the record you spoke of. that piece of energy getting into the plains and we're going to see a severe weather threat out of this system arou

we know that this recovery could not only take months but potentially years i want to bring in rob marciano. i meteorologist. i think you were listening in to rob and i heard the governor governor. actually say 227 miles that this tornado was on the ground. i know more study and research about exactly what happened. i know that all gets technical, but i know you've worked a lot of storms and a lot of devastation a lot of tornadoes in your career and over the years take what you see on the ground and kind of the path into some of the video. we're seeing and tell me given what we're hearing from governor bashir and given what you're seeing in some of those pictures what your assessment assessment is of what took place last night. we're talking about this massive storm. that could have been on the ground this long. well, i can tell you that monitoring your last night on the radar. it's frightening men to see such a strong signature. the tornado on the ground that we got brown confirmation early on in the evening and then went across four states for several hours a remarkable system that may or

louis was also hit hard, and that's where we find my colleague, rob marciano. hey, rob. >> reporter: good morning, linsey. unfortunately and sadly the death toll has risen to now six employees in this facility behind me, another 40 or so were working at the time when the tornado warnings went off scrambling for safety, and that ef-3 came through here, and you can see the hole it tore into this relatively new building. less than five years old, four stories high, and about a football field in length. i want to show you these stunning before and after satellite pictures. this is just east of st. louis, and a hole completely torn through this building. this is 11-inch-wide walls that are made of concrete, substantial. winds of 155 miles per hour. this is obviously not the only tornado that came through here. the deadliest and the longest one is the one that went through mayfield, but a total of 20 tornadoes have been reported. nine confirmed so far. there are still storm survey teams out there to determine the length of the longest one. that number will rise, but t

we want to go to rob marciano, our senior meteorologist, he's at the amazon warehouse destroyed in edwardsville. such a wide path of destruction, rob. >> reporter: yeah, george. nine confirmed tornadoes so far, but several more reported, and we still have to have strong survey teams go out and analyze the situation especially in mayfield. that one on the ground for across four states for over 200 miles. this one here in edwardsville is an ef-3 tornado with 155-mile-per-hour winds cutting through this amazon facility. this is a new facility behind me, exactly what it looks like now. this has a hole about a football field wide, and four stories tall. pretty stunning before and after photographs. there were six fatalities here. over 40 employees scrambling for safety when the tornado warnings went off, but when you see what happened to this building, which is less than five years old with concrete walls 11 inches thick, there was no place to hide. same for a nursing home in arkansas, and the building across kentucky. safety will be a question asked today, george, not just at this facility, but of

rob marciano is here. we know that winter officially has arrived, but snow in hawaii as i'm calling up my in-laws. what is happening? >> it's arrived in the u.s. you haven't seen it in the lower 48 but we're seeing it in hawaii. blizzard warnings there atop the volcanoes. there's the observatory. you can barely see it. we've got blizzard warnings there, mauna loa lookout. up to a foot of snow possible and it's blowing sideways and where it's below the elevation, we're looking at flooding potential here. across the lower 48, this is not good. 6% covered in snow. that is way below average, places like denver, colorado, still haven't seen measurable snowfall this year, that's blowing out their record. they typically get it in october or november. and looking ahead for the next couple of weeks, below average precipitation including denver, above average across parts of the northeast and warmer temperatures as well. that's a check on what's >> all right, turning now to a fun family rivalry taking center stage t

for weather and we are joined with danielle breezy from our nashville affiliate wkrn-tv, while rob marciano is off. danielle, so great to have you with us. >> thanks, janai. i'm so happy to be here, and so excited to represent nashville right now. you see behind me, this is famous broadway. nice and quiet now. the weather if nashville has been nice and quiet. that's not the case across the country. take a look at this video. this is from strong storms that rolled through southern california and santa barbara, california. it knocked down power lines and did structural damage from what could be a microburst or a possible tornado. in fact, to the north, we also had limited visibilities and lots of snow, this closed down parts of i-80 in truckee, california. more snow in that area as we head into today. we have storm alerts across the western third of the country impacting 27 million people. in fact, we have winter weather alerts as well as wind alerts with wind gusts up to possibly 70 miles per hour. >>> and while the west is dealing with winter weather, unfortunately in nashville, we're waiti

rob marciano. i see you're going to be talking about some flooding. >> got some flooding that happened while you were on vacation for like a month. >> you know what, you started the shade real early, rob. hoof we've got some flooding to talk about here in arkansas. this is all the rain that was in the tornado zone. they had steady rain pretty much all day yesterday, and they got four inches. this person was saved but obviously a water rescue had to take place there. and just up the river, up the mississippi at least in illinois, heavy rain there. this after severe weather went through parts of iowa over the last couple of days. all right. here's that storm, and you see it moving east. this thing is going to really crank up and hit into some colder air, so we're looking at a possibility for some snow but also some severe weather across parts of the deep south. here we go. some measurable snow, maybe plowable here north of i-90. albany north to lake placid, looks like winter storm warnings are posted

rob marciano joins us with the latest. rob, good morning to you. cold out there this morning. >> reporter: it's cold, but relatively speaking the east compared to the west is pretty mild. this pattern in the west has been relentless rounds of cold and snow, precip, snow coming to cities that don't usually get it and massive amounts of snow coming to places where they do usually get it, just not this much not all at once. this morning, wild weather moving out of the west and into the plains. more than 20 states on alert for dangerous winter weather. blizzard conditions in minnesota with harsh winds and whiteout conditions impeding roadways. in washington state record low in california sierra nevada over ten feet of snow falling in just days. dangerous driving conditions shutting down roads there. avalanche warnings in effect in the sierra and rockies and officials warning conditions are ripe for devastation. treacherous travel conditions in the lake tahoe area. this tree falling on top of a vehicle. in nearby truckee, 43-year-old skier rory angelott

rob marciano is in edwardsville with that. good morning, rob. >> reporter: good morning.learning new details of exactly what happened inside this sunscreen package processing facility the night that ef-3 tornado hit with winds of 150 miles an hour cutting through the concrete walls. 20-minute lead time, that's what they had as a warning when they were working inside that a tornado was coming. gave them enough time to scramble north into the shelter in place area. but this is all happening around 8:00 when drivers were finishing their daily routes so there probably were some drivers outside not getting the warning maybe seeing the tornado as it approached and scrambling inside what they hoped to be a safe place. all of the six deceased and one victim still in the hospital were discovered in this same place, presumably huddling together in what they hoped to be a safe spot then the tornado hit and concrete walls collapsed around them. frightening, heartbreaking details. osha is on site here today invest gaiting the safety protocols. michael? >> as you said, heartbreaking, r

wicked weather, reported tornadoes in the south and more snow pummeling parts of the west and rob marciano millions will be on alert for that extreme weather through new year's day. >> reporter: yeah, it's a bad combination, whit. we have all that energy from the storms in the west, bumping into record-breaking heat and that's causing severe weather and a number of tornadoes yesterday. damage out of winfield, alabama, one of three reported tornadoes doing severe damage. there were eight people trapped inside a pizza restaurant that collapsed on them but they're okay. scary stuff for sure and they have a lot to rebuild. then in georgia another tornado reported there. the funnel you see, light damage in that part of georgia. what we see today, more in the way of rain, that stationary boundary is not moving. that's why we call it that. flood watches out for parts of alabama. that's where the rain is. still record-breaking heat in georgia and more energy coming along the front from the west. so tomorrow, new year's eve from dallas to little rock, memphis and nashville, that's where you'll see
