with me is meteorologist rob mayeda. >> good morning. did you have a pretty nice christmas. >> it was very wet. >> sorry about that. >> that's not your fault. it's not. >> we still have lingering effects of all the weather yesterday. the temperatures hour by hour, and notice we're really not going to warm up a whole lot. we'll get sunshine at times, we're talking highs mid to upper 50s. what will be different than yesterday is that we're not going to see widespread rain. just the hit and miss showers and we're seeing plenty along highway 17 towards san jose. a few showers around hayward and fremont. the east bay quiet for now but you'll see coming up in the seven-day forecast we're going to catch a break but fog could really slow things down for the next couple morning. a look and that and the forecast in a couple minutes. >> thanks. >>> new this morning, it has been a wet christmas weekend, but people didn't let the weather stop them from celebr e celebrating outdoors. let's start with meteorologist rob mayeda, your east bay forecast and commute as well. >> mike has the morning off. i wish the traffic will take the morning off but we'll watch that for you. right now 40s and 50s outside. a little chilly in a few spots. not much wind. patchy fog will be the thing that will slow down your morning commute. it's mainly out toward the delta and up toward napa. visibility less than a mile. here's the radar view across the east bay. off to the east, chain controls up in the sierra along interstate 80 and highway 50 so if you're heading to the high country, look out for that. our next round of significant rain will hold off till friday but it will pack quite a punch. not a bad day around the east bay but a little cool. 55 livermore, 56 richmond, some upper 50s in the warmer places today, but notice as we head inland out towards fairfield, highs in the low 50s. coming up we'll talk more about pretty heavy rain totals as we approach the weekend and your seven-day forecast. we'll have that for you in a few minutes. now checking your commute along the east shore

we start with meteorologist rob mayeda to find out how long the rain is going to last. rob. >> well, this morning we've been watching that rain slowly heading out of the bay area. i'll show you the temperatures first hour by hour. most of the bay area heading right to the warmest part of the day, 2:00. we'll see mid to upper 50s today, but we'll see sun breaking through the clouds. one of the changes we're already seeing this morning is some of heavy rain has moved on but over san francisco and heading to the east bay, bay bridge, golden gate bridges getting hit by pretty good rain. we'll talk more about this system that is slow to leave the bay area and our next storm coming in for the weekend in just a few minutes. back to you. >>> several homeowners across the east bay are cleaning up after getting soaked. >> today in the east bay's christie smith is live in oakland this morning where a tree fell into a house. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. we've been talking about more rain coming our way. fortunately it hasn't hit us just yet. i wanted to give you a

christie smith is in the east bay, kris sanchez is on the coast and rob mayeda is in the weather center tracking the storm. we begin with rob. good morning, rob. >> good morning, marla. let's go hour by hour with the storm. widespread rain around the bay area but the change you'll see around lunchtime is the rain will change to scattered showers and eventually some breaks in the clouds. as the showers start to shut down later on today, one of the stories that we're watching and one of the places hardest hit continues to be pacifica. you can see the rain racing through, some pretty good downpours. later today we're talking about high tide and storm-driven surf that could cause issues out on the coast. that's where kris sanchez joins us live with a look at things on the coast this morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, rob. we're feeling a little bit of a light, misty kind of rain right now but we are expecting that that rain is going to pick up and those drops will get a little bigger this morning. the worst of the rain this morning, and as you mentioned, the worst of the flooding co

we'll get you started with a cold and wet hour-by-hour forecast and rob mayeda. good morning, rob. >> good morning, scott. we're seeing a little fog out there as well this morning and our temperatures mostly 30s, maybe not quite as cold as those 20s we've seen at this hour the last few mornings but look out for patchy fog towards the tri-valley. we also have a spare the air alert for basically a no burn day. no wood-burning fireplaces or stoves as we have particulate matter pollution starting to ramp up. the worst of it up in the north bay valleys. not much in the way of clouds but we've got showers moving down the north coast and that will start to arrive around the east bay a little later on this week. despite the chilly start to the morning, not really a bad forecast. you can see some of the warmer places around pleasanton close to 60, even oakland near 60 degrees. we'll be watching increasing chances of rain as we wrap up the rest of the week. we have a look at that in the seven-day forecast in a few minutes. >>> let's turn to mike and a cold, wet commute that

. >>> we have rob mayeda checking out the weather.was pretty foggy this morning, and then it was nice and sunny. not l.a. 80s. >> we'll take mid-60s not too bad. >> i will, actually. >> it's nice not to have to dodge the raindrops. the weekend is off to a pretty nice start. 55 degrees and not much fog around san jose just yet. but plan on seeing patchy fog for tomorrow morning in oakland, 52 degrees. look at downtown san francisco, can you see some of the holiday lights of the taller buildings around downtown. the fog settling in. 53 degrees, north wind at 3, notice also the wind direction out toward the pass and the trivalley. we have the fog getting pumped in by an offshore breeze. plan on some fog there around the east bay valleys as we make our way into tomorrow morning. some of the visibility is dropping off to less than a quarter mile around our north bay valley. fog will certainly be the big story as we head through the rest of tonight into tomorrow morning. and in some cases in the north and east bay valleys with the fog linge

. >>> and here is rob mayeda and mermaids on horse. what could be more natural? >> it's perfect for the rose parade. >> lots of rain. >> hopefully the rain will hold off for new year's day. but you'll will looking at a pretty good storm coming in here on tuesday. right now we still have some very persistent showers hung up across places north of san francisco at this hour. 40s and 50s outside right now. one item to watch not so much the temperatures, 40s and 50s, but it's the fog. already setting up in santa rosa now, down to about a half mile visibility. it will be in the north and east bay valleys by tomorrow morning. could see some locally thick fog once what is left of the showers slowly heads on out. we'll see some clearing overnight with foggy conditions for tomorrow morning and a chilly start. we're expecting some temperatures in the upper 30s to mid-40s. tuesday a change since 6:00 as the evening computer model comes in is painting a much wetter picture. wednesday chilly showers heading back to the bay area. still, the showers don't want to leave the bay
