rob mayeda has a look at the forecast this morning. >> the fog machine turned on. woke up to a lot of low clouds, misty clouds in san row moan as i drove down into san jose. san jose right now we have low clouds, 44 degrees. another chilly morning around the bay area and we'll also see those temperatures eventually i think climbing into the 50s for most spots today. expected to be a mainly rain-free day if you just cancel out the mist we have of the low clouds which you can see offshore we have the system there that will bring a chance of showers come tuesday. hour by hour, some areas of drizzle with the low clouds, then just like yesterday along the coast, we should see some clearing, so santa cruz, the south coast again today the warmest temperatures around the bay area, mid 50s there, 40s inland across the east bay hills and north bay valley. tomorrow morning, could have patchy frost and then a chance of showers tuesday, on and off chances of rain across the north bay for the second half of the week coming up. >> thank you very much. >>> this morning san jose po

meteorologist rob mayeda is live here in the weather center with the details for us. rob. >> yeah, tom, we're watching those temperatures for you at this hour. and you can see we're already in the low 40s out toward fairfield. parts of the north bay tonight will be dipping into the 30s. good enough to maybe some low snow on the hilltops of the north bay. right now actually the radar has dried out a little over the last hour. we had the first band of the light rain that went through the north bay in san francisco. you can see things relatively dry for now. it's off to the east bay hills as you head to tracy and stockton. that's where the light rain has moved on. san jose dry for now but you can see just offshore we have a little bit of rain approaching places like santa cruz here in the next hour or so. so the new year's eve forecast, it's going to be chilly. winter coat weather. and yes, you'll need an um brel at at times. the temperatures in the mid to low he 40s for most people places. it's the one-two combination into the weekend, chilly rain and the chance of low s

i'm chris sanchez with "today in the bay" meteorologist rob mayeda. very nice to have you back. >> happy new year. >> haven't seen you since last year. >> you were curled up with the dogs. i did the same thing. >> perfect new year's eve. three dogs on the lap. we have rain to talk about this morning. it was coming down really rough driving to the station this morning coming from the sunol grade into san jose. see the showers lifting from south to north, an interesting move. we're used to the rain going west to east, not the case this morning. it's coming from the south. see some of it around san francisco over the last hour or so. not so much in the north bay. most of the heavy rain we're seeing is focused on the south bay and the trend as we go hour by hour, widespread rain for the morning, scattered showers this morning. for areas south of the santa cruz, may get a little thunder today. today the most active weather day we're going to see for a while. a bit of a drying trend finally taking shape in your seven-day forecast. look at that coming up lat

i'm kris sanchez with rob mayeda in our brand-new studio. we hope you like the looks. let us know either way. right? let's talk about the beautiful forecast. >>> it is nice. yesterday, santa rosa, 74 degrees. that was a new record high, san jose had 72. today, probably not quite that warm but still we'll see those temperatures starting to warm up into the maybe near 70 later on. 53 right now, san francisco. it's a little chilly outsid we have some breezy conditions around the hilltops, some temperatures around the bay area right now. the numbers, at 37 in santa rosa, 44, san jose, and as you saw, 53 in san francisco. so the weather stories of the day, some fog inland ind you're heading out toward sacramento, breezy in the hills and relatively warm temperatures for january. as you can see here, hour by hour, by lunchtime, most likely in the 60s. we'll see partly cloudy skies today and, boy, look at those numbers. this is the equivalent of a january heat wave because record highs for the bay area for this date pretty close to 70 degrtss. so coming up, we'll let you know

rob mayeda is here to tell us what to expect and when it's moving in. >> it's actually moving in right now. we've been watching those areas of light rain falling. it has now reached oakland where it's currently 55 degrees. in terms of the showers, we're seeing most of them right around the peninsula up towards the north bay. light rain falling around the highway 17 summit. and obviously around sonoma and marin counties. moderate rain crossing the coast. as we head through this evening, this compact area of low pressure drops down the coast. rain starts to move back to the bay area for the first time really in about 16 days. tonight as that rain comes in, we could have a chance of isolated thunder as well. we'll talk more about that coming up in your full forecast, along with when we can expect drier conditions to come back maybe for your weekend plans. your full forecast comes up in just a few minutes. >> thank you, rob. >>> we have breaking news out of marin county tonight. police in ross say they found the body of a missing teacher. officers in a search and rescue crew found the body

i'm chris sanchez with rob mayeda.'s unusual for us to have this much fog south and east. >> in in the south bay we haven't had this kind of dense fog setting up. even in san jose we have a dense fog advisory bay area wide. this morning through 9:00, temperatures in the 40s to near 50. that's one benefit of the fog, our temperatures oornts too chilly. visibility, quick mass, .06 miles, about 300 foot visibility. san francisco, san mateo and a quarter mile or less in san jose. very foggy start to the morning. we'll be rain-free. our friends in the pacific northwest getting flooding rains. stern washington, maybe about a half foot of rain building down today. we'll be looking at drizzle with the fog, patchy fog into the afternoon. with all the extra moisture in terms of the low clouds, we're going to be running a little cooler today. once we get the hazy sunshine, we won't see temperatures near 70 today. i think we're going to be looking at 50s to low 60s for highs today. tomorrow, dry, a little warmer. look at that seve
