rob mayeda. loopg with nick o'kelly, we've got nick now. here's nick. there you are. >> not only that. i just wanted to mention. not only is he an excellent, excellent meteorologist, rob is a heck of a good guy. >> he is a really nice guy. >> he is a genuinely nice guy. let's get to it and talk about your weather. we are looking for big changes. the golden gate bridge, there's been a bit of mist. a little drizzle out there. upper level low pressure system. not a big deal. a couple of showers in the northern sierra. that's moving off across nevada right now. what's in store for us here over the next couple of days is a big ridge of high pressure. what that means for us is some warming for the midday hours in the inland areas tomorrow. then after that, into monday and tuesday, we really heat things up. we're talking 80s and possibly near 90 degrees. the reason, this big ridge of high pressure offshore. it's been taking its time. should have been here a couple of weeks ago. it's finally moving in. it's going to stick around through this entire week, i think

and we want to check in with meteorologist rob mayeda with that. what's going on, rob? >> north and east bayhill tops this afternoon have had some pretty active showers. in fact some thunder earlier that got really intense around fairfield and vacaville. you can see the hail showing up as the heavier line of thundershowers went through with rain around napa. same story off to the east around mt. diablo. we did have the showers fire up around the east bayhill tops east of 680 this afternoon. san jose, san francisco and oakland not bad. we've got all the clouds out there, but not a lot of rain falling underneath. but that is likely to change a little later on in evening. remember that low which has been spinning around offshore? it is now crossing the central coast tonight. and with it, especially for areas south of san jose and in the east bay hills we'll see more lift to the moisture outside which equals more showers and possibly even some thunder in a few spots tonight. we'll walk you through the details of the forecast heading back to the workweek in a few minutes. di

. >>> let's bring in rob mayeda who joins us tonight. yesterday all sorts of crazy rain and into this weekend flirting with triple digits? >> yes. >> that's when you want to go into the pool. >> yes, hopefully that's up and running by this weekend, it's a popular spot. any of the bay area pools including around san francisco, we'll be warming up around the peninsula as we head towards the weekend, but right now you got to be brave if you want to go swimming with the temperatures in the 60s to low 70s outside. a pretty good sea breeze reaching solano county, livermore through the altamont pass, we still have the ocean air-conditioning extending well inland. the satellite view, you notice the low clouds out there. this may still be enough to give us misty skies or a little bit of drizzle on the coast or peninsula, tomorrow morning, but the trouble making system that brought the record rain yesterday, clearing away to the sierras. and high pressure will build in and as it does, you'll notice a very steady warming trend. getting started tomo

for more, let's check in with rob mayeda. >> we saw some unusual weather today. temperatures in the 50s and 60s for highs, record breaking rain north to south, almost an inch of rain in the wettest spots. right now we're seeing things drying out just a little bit. oakland, 56 degrees. and showers off to the east of san jose. 50s and 60s outside. you can see we'll still have hill top showers in spots. been watching a knew of those areas, but not the steady soaking we had this afternoon. now all the action continues to fly out towards the sierra. one more day, still a slight chance of showers. not the widespread rain we saw today. for the afternoon, we could see a stray shower or two. here comes the heat wave. temperatures really starting to throttle up. 90s inland and by the end of the holiday weekend, temperatures getting close to 100 degrees. again, a lot of widespread low clouds, maybe some mist with the fog for the morning. for the hill tops during the day, still enough instability to warrant a slight chance for a shower. future cast picking out we're not goin

let's check with rob mayeda with a look at what is going on. llo, rob. >> we've been watching a lot ofo refirks here on the radar tonight. mostre to the east of the altamont pass in the form of mo big-time thunder. places like solano county and eastern contra costa counties tonight. you had rain drifting in from the east. as it has weakened before it tries to get into places like oakland and san francisco. san francisco still dry, but lot of moisture to our south and av we did have severe thunderstorm warnings hoisted for central valley tonight due to all the thundershowers. now most of this moisture will continue to slowly head on out of here, though i think for tomorrow morning's commute, you're probably still going to see a lingering shower, especi out towards the altamont pass and the east bay hills. as we head towards tomorrow afternoon, things are looking a lot better. in fact, your seven-day forecast is seeing a temperature boost for a ching. we'll walk you through the forecast coming up in ooh few minutes. >> thank you. >>> coming up on

rob mayeda joins us now. it's like it's winter all over again. >> it is. if this was a winter storm scenar scenario, we'd be seeing an inch of rain in spots and even for january or february that would be impressive. the other thing that's impressive, temperatures 20 to 30 degrees below where they were. breezy as a cold front slowly heads slowly out of the bay area. when i mean slowly we're talking at times this afternoon only ten miles per hour. so we had all that moisture out there, and it kept raining and raining and raining, even sent the spider there in the san jose city cam running as that rain came through san jose. here are some of the latest rainfall totals. san rafael now going over an inch of rain with this storm system. you can see san francisco, .78 inch and close to an inch around richmond. even san jose, a lot more rain than anticipated, i have to say, for the santa clara valley to get a half inch of rain, all of these record-breakers from north to south, very unusual for this time of year. we're still seeing most of the moisture hung up arou

meteorologist rob mayeda is here. for all kinds of weather lovers. >> beginning this afternoon we'll see the skies clear out. you just saw san bruno mountain. you probably thought what happens when you speed that up? there's 20 minutes of it there on the time lapse. there's a shallow or a thinning marine layer. it's still going to keep san francisco and the coast cool, but inland as north winds, which we're starting to see in santa rosa, get closer to sea level, we'll see inland valleys starting to warm up. so right around 1:00, 80s popping up for our inland valleys, but san francisco kind of staying cool. in fact as we approach 6:00 this evening, it's going to be hot in fairfield, up to the low 90s. we'll see more 90s popping up in the forecast as we go through the next few days. first half of the week, appropriately enough, as summer gets started, it does look hot for parts of the bay area. we'll show you that in a few minutes. >> it is never a good sign when there's hot pink on your map. >> or purple. >>> new this

. >> let's get right to meteorologist rob mayeda with the details of what is very winterlike weather in late june. >> yeah, it's hard to believe we're talking about rain by the inch in a few spots around the bay area. just smashing rainfall records from the north bay to the south bay, here's a look at the latest totals, after 6:00 over one inch for san raffaele, san francisco, 0.78 of an inch, and the old records over a quarter inch of rain, so well above the records. concord and oakland more than a half inch of rain and even san jose a half inch of rain and you can see the same in the tri-valley in th east bay,n sa ramon 0.75 of rain, and they had an intense thunderstorm at 2:00 in the afternoon. most of the heavier showers moving east of 680 towards the altamont pass in livermore, and san jose the heavier rain moving off to the south, morgan hill and gilroy you are getting hit hard for the next half hour, but that, too, will slide off to the east. but with the area of low pressure lurking offshore, that will bring in cool and unstable air on top of us as you try to go to bed tonigh

. >> rob mayeda is here. take it away. >> big change from last night at this hour.oday, things finally started to dry out and tonight patchy low clouds, cool temperatures outside. 50s to close to 60 in sunnyvale. you may wake up to maybe a little mist here along the coastline tomorrow morning. but the rain has certainly finally moved on. you heard at the top of the news cast, the problems of runoff, causing problems for campers and our boy scouts up there. the good news, all that moisture that was still causing snow showers in the sierras, off to the east side and that's where the active weather will be. i want to point out what's happening in the gulf of mexico. tropical storm arlene may briefly become a hurricane as it crosses the east coast of mexico and it will spin a lot of moisture into mainland mexico. notice the track for what happens with arlene by the time it weakens. it will track across mexico and toss some tropical moisture up. this is the time of year we have to watch out for this, because it could cause lightning sparked fires, precisely what we do no

i'm chris sanchez along with meteorologist rob mayeda. morrow. >> tomorrow things are going to be warming up a little bit. this morning we've been testing the windshield wipers at some of the city cameras around san francisco. you have some mist with low clouds especially near the coast. 56 right now in oakland. san francisco, 53 degrees. 53 in san jose. a little bit of sun, patchy low clouds. notice the wd southeast at 14. we're getting that cool air coming up from the valley into the santa clara valley this morning with low clouds here. rain producing clouds staying off to the north for the weekend. today the more mild of the two weekend days. we'll see lots of low clouds for morning. coastal clouds and peninsula clouds sticking around for the day today. if that onshore push of marine air, mostly 70s inland. you mention this tomorrow. we'll see temperatures climb a good five to eight degrees. more 80s inland tomorrow. then just in time for the start of summer, 90s coming back. that forecast looking a lot more like june than just a couple
