want to check the forecast with meteorologist rob mayeda in for christina this morning. are we looking, rob? >> so far pretty good. i think the afternoon forecast will be pleasant except trying to warm things up for the first week of august. today will be the hottest day but only close to the 90 in the warmest places inland. right now 50s patchy low clouds, actually fog from morning commute from santa rosa to novato. look out for that. see the winds. fairfield tells the story for bay area weather. if you've got winds that strong blowing into solano county marine layer and cooler air no trouble in the east bay valleys meaning temperatures mild. different start time to giants game, different fortunes and outcome, upper 60s first pitch staying in the 60s. for a change, lake tahoe and yosemite off to the east as the flow pushes that moisture back to the desert southwest. around the bay area, 83 san jose hottest places morgan hill and livermore low 90s. overall that's not that bad for this time of year. just saw 60s for san francisco, close to 80 in petaluma. seven-day forecas

rob mayeda on the weather. it was lovely, a little windy out there. i'm tongue tied. >> we're waiting for summer to show up around the bay area. it's been blustery, cool, and temperatures well below average for this time of year. generally in the 70s, the warmest places inland. 75 degrees, you see the wind northwest at 1, some of the foot hill communities south and east of san jose have been seeing gusty conditions today. oakland you can see the low clouds. wind out of the west at 17, and quite cool in san francisco. we're at 60 degrees, lots of low clouds, chances are we will have drizzle at times for your evening and tonight. wet roads possible in a few spots especially around the peninsula and the coast. here's a look at our temperatures right now, running very cool, you can see the effects of that strong sea breeze. wind mills really churning around the altimont pass. southwest winds at 22 into fairfield. this is great news for air quality. you will not find better air quality this time of year. and you have these types of winds. it will continue

>>>nk well, meteorologist rob mayeda joins us now. he's covering for jeff ranieri, who is covering that storm on the east coast. rob, tell us is the trajectory for eye remember still on course? >> still holding its path but the information we received at > the top of the hour has just a little bit of good news in terms of the wind speeds. still at least officially a category 2 hurricane, moving northeast at 11 miles per hour. but the trend overnight into tomorrow showing signs of just some subtle weakening. irene as it hits north carolina there, state a category 1 hurricane, but watch the icon as it crosses over long island, switching over to tropical storm strength. so perhaps not quite as strong, the wind speeds we were thinking about 24 hours ago. but rainfall totals could get close to 15 inches of rain. so flooding and coastal damage a real concern through the weekend. we'll have a continued look at irene. >> you would think that everyone is trying to get out of hurricane irene's way, but planes heading east are still going. chery

. >>> right now we want to check in with rob mayeda. >> we're tracking two of them. one of them you will notice come tuesday. right now low clouds back over san francisco. 57 degrees. but the two weather patterns we're seeing, are starting to come together. it'll be impacting our weather. first some tropical moisture that's to the south. that may impact us towards the middle part of the week and steering that moisture our way is that desert southwest high building closer to the bay area. this will lead to some warmer temperatures come tomorrow but especially by tuesday, we'll see those 90s pop up and this moisture, midlevel moisture we call it, starts to drift, gets closer to the bay area. south of santa cruz we could see a slight chance of some thunder as we head towards the middle part of the week. but that's later on. tonight and tomorrow morning you may run into some drizzle and that might slow down your morning commute. warm in the mid 90s in a few spopts we'll show you that in the seven-day forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> you got it, thank you, rob. >>>

. >>> let's turn our attention to meteorologist rob mayeda in the studio because jeff ranieri is in new york tracking irene. we expect the hurricane to go to a category 1. what kind of impact will that still have on snork>>the biggest impact in terms of winds will be felt first at landfall, probably 12 hours away from hitting the outer banks of north carolina. we can see the eye wall with hurricane. that's where the hurricane-force winds are just offshore, approaching the coastline. maybe a category 1 toward long island and new york come saturday. you see winds sustained at 100 miles per hour. for now, temporarily talkinga a category 2 hurricane. a large storm, tropical storm-force winds almost extending out 300 to 4 hundred miles outward from the center. hurricane-force winds about 80 miles from the center. the storm will cross over land into north carolina. that is where we'll see those winds of 100 miles per hour. notice the path tracking right up along parallel to the eastern seaboard, east of philadelphia, new york city heading on into sunday. and that's when it's going to transiti

let's bring in rob mayeda. where was rob today, the arts festival?it was wonderful. >> filling in for jeff ranieri. >> that's right. and getting to benefit from some of the beautiful weather we had. got a little chilly, the low clouds spreading back across the bay and san jose, 62 degrees. northwest winds at 7 miles per hour. oakland right now, 58 degrees. at least you can see 880 right now. because in san francisco, the city camera is getting a drizzle storm. 57 degrees, west wind at 15 miles per hour. and san francisco, the coast likely enough drizzle coming down where it could wet the roadways again. so stay tuned for the forecast. temperatures right now, 50s and 60s outside. a healthy sea breeze is providing for fantastic air quality. normally you have to talk about 90 degree temperatures and spare the air days. not the case with that strong sea breeze. we've got a strong ocean air conditioning effect. tomorrow morning, we will see drizzle on the coast and this surge means a cloudy start to friday and we'll get some sunshine towards the afternoon

. >>> let's check in with rob mayeda on the weather, a little cold out there this morning? >> it was. we did have a lot of low clouds around oakland throughout the day. you can see today's highs running cool for this time of year, speaking of oakland, 67 degrees, 66 in san francisco. look at livermore, only 79 today. same story in san jose. we had southeast winds pulling at the cool air from the south. very cool afternoon around the bay area. cool evening, at least seeing sun in san jose, different story from oakland to san francisco. 63 degrees in oakland and 60 in san francisco. again, what's really jumping out on this map is is the fact that livermore is 9 degrees right now at 6:00 on a mid-august evening. it's hard to believe, that's that ocean air conditioning blasting inland. it's good for wind power. you can see northwest winds at 17 miles per hour, and strong winds reaching into fairfield as well. we're going to see low clouds surging inland. which means areas of drizzle. i wouldn't rule out light rain around the coast and peninsula as you get an extra left to the c

's kind of smooth sailing, rob? >> thing also start to warm up between today and tomorrow before the numbers make a run into the 90s. right now in san jose, some patches of low clouds but not too bad. currently sitting at 60 degrees. a southeast wind at 9 miles per hour. in oakland, 58 degrees. around san francisco, starting to see a few interesting changes. we had a lot of low clouds earlier in the evening. 56 degrees, and actually a little bit of clearing around the coastline, up in the north bay as north winds start to work their way down the coast. the first sign they're about to see a pattern change taking place, leading to temperatures coming up. 50s and 60s outside. by tomorrow morning as the skis clear, upper 40s around nevado and santa rosa for the morning. there you see the sea breeze reaching into fairfield. as that backs off, that's the reason why come thursday and friday, temperature also start to jump on up. tomorrow morning, a light jacket or sweatshirt will be fine. the
