to see how warm it's been this january, let's check in with meteorologist rob mayeda in the nbc bay area weather center. rob. >> hi there. you may be surprised by how mild what is one of the typically coldest months of the year has been around the bay area. right now this is what a typical day should look like. that has been the exception to the rule for this january. we've seen 18 days of above average high temperatures for san francisco, this is all part of the dry pattern which has also led to chilly nights with light winds and more than usual number of fair the air nights around the bay area so. the flip side to the warmer temperatures has been this dry pattern which has dropped off bay area rainfall totals to 40% to 30% of average from san francisco south and the snow pack looks poor for this time of year. as you roll into february looks like we'll see temperatures warming up again. we could hit 70-degree temperatures in parts of the bay area later this week. that is one of the changes we're tracking. the other includes the chance of showers which is why we have our doppler radar fi

we'll check in with rob mayeda who is tracking the wet weather. first we go out to kimberly tere with a look at what the rain means for the bay area. hello, kimberly. >> reporter: hello, diane. here the wind has picked up a little bit, and it is cold. so far, we have not seen any rain in the area where we are at. i want to show you the river now. it has picked up pace as the storm moves in from the north. today we caught up with some people hoping for a lot more rain. they want to see more snow on the mountains. so far, there's just a base layer. skiers say it's just ice, but they are hoping for more snow in the coming days. skiers were bringing in their gear to get tuned up and sharpened in anticipation. it's been a dry december and most of january has been the same so the e skiers and snow borders are expected to catch up on their runs. >> what was it like? >> fresh snow. a lot of people going that way up the hill. it's encouraging. to see a lot of traffic going up the hill. >> i didn't go out all last year and i regret it. i'm excited to go thi

rob mayeda got up early with your forecast. >> nice morning to sleep in. up, go outside, sunshine all around the bay area. no fog in san francisco, near the water at least 48 degrees. inland, clear, dry skies around the north bay, still in the low 30s this morning. santa rosa, napa, patchy frost possible. fairfield, not much wind right now. we're not going to see much wind during the day except tomorrow probably the return of a sea breeze. the radar, it's quite dry. we don't have much moisture and don't have storms coming on. thanks to high pressure off to the west. you'll still need the jacket through 9:00 this morning especially in the inland valleys. close to 60 by noon, short sleeve weather here as we head towards 3:00 in the afternoon. mid-60s for most of theç bay aa today and tomorrow a few extra clouds and then comes our slight chance of seeing showers. we'll let you know if it's going to arrive by the end of the weekend, coming up in the full seven-day forecast in just a few minutes. >> still not enough to get us out of the dry pattern. >> no. >>>

nbc bay area meteorologist rob mayeda is tracking the storm from the weather center. saying tomorrow's band looks even stronger than you thought it might be in the first place. >> it looks like the rain, especially by tomorrow night will be picking up and becoming heavy again. but boy, speaking of heavy rain, take a look at the rainfall totals just over my shoulder, ben lomond, more than 6 inches of rain came down. we had moisture slamming into the santa cruz mountains, you get the maximum rainfall potential out of that. the air drops into the santa clara valley, eases off a bit but not the case around morgan hill. almost 2 1/2 inches of rain, san francisco and oakland, close to 1 1/2 inches. you saw the problems in mill valley. here's the reason why. many locations have close to 3 or even 4 inches of rain out near larkspur. for the game tomorrow,ç this wl be around the start of round three. another storm system rolling in for the afternoon. rain likely increasing, especially towards the second half of the game. breezy at times tomorrow. we will talk more about tomor

for more on that and the big game day forecast, we want to check in with rob mayeda. >> good thing the game wasn't today because of all that heavy rain that fell last night into this morning. candlestick park, the parking lot looked more like a lake. earlier this morning, you can see earlier today we had almost a foot of standing water in the parking lot outside the main gate there. it took until the afternoon to pump that water out. you see the blue skies above. we did catch a break in between storm two which carried into this morning to storm three which is on our doorstep right now. you can see the clouds spilling into the bay area. as we head into tomorrow morning we will start to see lighter rain. 3:30 in the afternoon it looks like rain developing. wind will be a factor too. 15 to 25 miles per hour. as we quickly show you the hour by hour forecast for tomorrow. this is the light rain we'll wake up to in the morning. scattered showers through lunchtime. here you go, right around the start of the game, the rain starting to fill on in, in and out of the raindrops. one change perhaps

. >> let's turn things over to rob mayeda who joins us in the weather center. rain on the horizon? >> we might see drizzle out there but compared to what we typically expect this time of year in january these storms not packing much of a punch. today we did see a stronger sea breeze which helped to bring down temperatures. you can see we have 50s around the bay area, 52 san francisco and in san jose. notice the temperatures inland, livermore at 51, as the onshore winds picked up. look at that west wind at 9 into livermore. that's what was missing this weekend. we had the 60s and 70s and offshore winds. now thats the sea breeze is back it's pumping in the low clouds and drizzle in spots. for the coast and the peninsula, tomorrow you'll notice around this time tomorrow evening, increasing clouds. one more chance and the best chance of showers early on wednesday. after that things are going to warm up again. right now the radar around the bay area mainly dry except it's been busy down around monterey bay. we had showers. let's zoom you in on our hd radar. right along the bay bridge, a
