. >>> let's bring in rob mayeda from our nbc bay area weather center. >> hats will be coming into play tomorrow. >> i'd do it again. >> tomorrow would be a good day for it to block out the sun. >>> it's going to get hot and unfortunately dry and breezy. you saw it at the top of the newsca newscast. we're watching this fire at sunol, 300 acres burning, not too many homes or buildings nearby, little bit of good news. but unfortunately fire conditions are getting worse as we get into the weekend. breezy conditions, turning drier in the hills overnight. specifically, it's the north bay that will see the windiest and driest weather overnight through midmorning tomorrow, which is the reason we have red flag warnings up for napa, sonoma and marin counties, the higher hills and through the lake county through midmorning tomorrow. as that air continues to turn breezy, it will act sort of like a hair dryer overnight, continuing to dry out the hills. fire danger off to an early start across the north bay hill

so let's check in with meteorologist rob mayeda on the forecast and what's going on. hi, rob. >> hi there, diane. right now we're seeing a lot of 90-degree temperatures around the bay area. couple that with very gusty and dry winds. temperatures at 90 degrees. concord, livermore, and even san jose earlier close to 90 degrees. 87 right now. look at san francisco. 80 degrees. 89 in santa cruz. and it's the winds that have been throughout the day out of the north and northeast and the east bay hills, dropping humidity levels down to single digits or in the teens. any time you get below 20% in humidity with temperatures in the 80s and 90s, that makes the map look like this. red flag warnings for the north bay, east bay and for the hills east of 680 and 101 into the south bay, out towards the east of san jose. we'll see this at least through eight:00 tomorrow morning as the winds will continue to stay gusty in the hills. i would not be surprised to see the red flag warnings extended a little longer into the day tomorrow. a quick sneak preview of the temperatur temperatures

i'm rob mayeda. what you can expect, getting closer to the weekend, with a cooling trend in the forecast. >>> starting next week in san francisco, you'll be able to get around the city in less time. muni service will be the first transit system in the nation to offer all-door boarding on all buses and rail vehicles. riders with valid proof of payment will be able to board at any door. the new policy is expected to reduce travel times and increase reliability. >>> a study of california's middle schools found high levels of overweight and obese students with some of the highest rates here in the bay area. researchers at ucla studied data from 250 cities and found 38% of california students are overweight or obese. the lowest rate in the state was 11% in manhattan beach. a high-income area. low-income areas tended to correlate with higher weight with huntington park having the highest rate with more than 50%. san pablo was third highest at over 52% and you see richmond right there at 51%. >>> a big anno

let's bring in meteorologist rob mayeda. it's going to be hot in much of the bay area. >> it's good this weather is going to be around for the practice rounds tomorrow. the hottest day of the week rolling in. you mightya think it's warm now. still 71 in san jose after 11:00. 70 in livermore and concord. the winds breezy in the hilltops. you're not seeing much of it down there at ground level. look what's happening with humidity numbers, especially in concord and livermore. you can see in the 20s and 30%, still dry in east bay hills. that's why into tomorrow morning we're talking the north bay and east bay hilltops, red flag warnings through at least 8:00 tomorrow morning. as we go through the afternoon, you'll be surprised by how quickly our temperatures warm up. we'll start close to 70 for morning temps in san jose. as early as lunchtime, we're at upper 80s in the east bay. soaring well into the 90s tomorrow. we'll talk more about a real taste of summer showing up in your seven-day forecast coming up. >>> state fire officia

. >>> right now we want to check in with rob mayeda on the weather around here on what we can expect for the next couple days. >> diana, it does still look like we're on our way to some of the hottest weather of this hot spell, coming up as we get back to workweek. outside nothing but sunshine. the late day sea breeze more typical of a late summer day. the clear skies there. wind now blowing in out of the west. and our temperatures, even with the sea breeze still 78 degrees in san francisco. 77 in oakland. and lack at the numbers inland. we're talking mid 80s to still some low 90s as we get out towards fairfield south around gilroy. inland primarily out of the north, it's really helped to drop our humidity levels down into the single digits and teens. this is the reason why. tonight and at least until tomorrow morning, the north and east bay hills and parts of the south bay hills east of highway 101 will be under a red flag warning due to the dry and breezy conditions. and don't be surprised tonight that the ac keeps running as by tomorrow morning you'll be waking up to 60s and 70s f

let's go straight to meteorologist rob mayeda and check in on the weather. what's going on, rob? >> we're seeing hot temperatures around the bay area today. in fact, so hot that we came very close to breaking some records. but not quite. 98 degrees, that tied a record in san jose. livermore, up to 106 degrees today. that was still below the record of 113 that we would have had to get above that. thank goodness we didn't. there you see the trivalley, numbers well above 100. we've cooled off more than 20 degrees, but the problem is, we'll stir in the 80s at this hour. and no sign of a strong sea breeze just yet. we'll see some changes taking place tonight as fog and low clouds work towards the bay area. this is going to lead to cooling starting tomorrow. inland spots tomorrow may still see those numbers soaring into the 90s. coming up, we'll let you know what this sunday cooldown means and what you can expect for highs coming up in the full forecast. diane? >> thanks, rob. >>> it's been three months since 15-year-old sierra disappeared from the south bay. despite the heat today, vo

let's check in with meteorologist rob mayeda.te the big change in the rest of the bay area but boy, big difference at the olympic club? >> probably one of the spots that dropped about 20 degrees today. we're talking san francisco, right there on thecoast. you saw the fog and the mist following there. 64 in san francisco but we managed mid 90s in livermore, south san jose and morgan hills. normally the hottest time of the day is 4:00. at 4:00, that's when the sea breeze started to kick in so right now you can see the cooling we're seeing around the bay area and those winds to the east bay valley, 15 to 20 miles an hour and as you saw, quite a bit of fog and mist there around the peninsula and as we go through the coast we'll see drizzle as that southerly surge certainly has arrived. tomorrow morning you'll wake up to misty skies and low clouds all the way to theal h altamont pass as this sets up for a very cool start to the work week. trivalley will see numbers nowhere near the 90s. more about that coming up. diane? >> thank you,

. >> right now, i want to check in with meteorologist rob mayeda because we're talking weather. weather around here very nice. >> it has been nice here and a sharp contrast to what they see unfortunately right now in florida. you mentioned the tropical storm and this thing has stalled out. so the rainfall totals already incredible. 5 to 10 inches of rain have fallen across parts of the florida panhandle and peninsula and the storm, this is the next two to three days, looks like it's going to stall out over the same areas. so the threat would be coastal flooding, beach erosion and perhaps rain totals approaching 12 to 20 inches of rain. imagine that. it's almost the bay area's winter rainfall total coming down in the next two to three days in florida. very slow-moving so flooding a real concern on the gulf coast. earlier this morning it looked like it may head to new orleans. not the case. it looks like it's going to stall out over the florida panhandle. closer to home, nothing but sunshine in san francisco, gorgeous view. but it is a little windy. you might notice that if you st

. >>> let's bring in rob mayeda who joins with us a big weather story across the country. >> we're watchinghat's happening in the gulf of mexico obviously with the very latest on tropical storm debby, which we'll show you in just a moment. let's take you outside and show you what we've got from san bruno mountain right now. you can see just some patchy low clouds out there. mainly off in the distance with some breezy conditions around some of those hilltops. we're seeing some wind gusts at times getting up close to 25 miles per hour and cool temperatures again around the bay area. i do want to show you again what's happening with tropical storm debby. the very latest on the storm. this is the bad news, it's barely going anywhere, 45 miles per hour as sustained winds but its forward speed has stopped. so it's dropping a tremendous amount of rain near tallahassee. 15 inches of rain has come down and this is a moisture-riff environment where you get this maritime tropical air and makes the southeast u.s. the thunderstorm capital of the country. this is a high octane fuel for the storm to drop

let's check in with rob mayeda. >> it seems very strange.'ve got the nice weather right now and we would hope that it holds up later on tonight because we actually have a partial lunar eclipse. this is going to be from about 2:00 overnight, peaking between 3:00 and 4:00. you should see a little cut-out of the moon as the earth passes over that. here's the part of that. we have a weather system bringing rain very likely as we go through tonight. you'll notice the winds picking up and clouds starting to spill in. what you probably don't expect for june is how much rain is w starting to show up here in the futurecast as we roll into your monday morning commute. 7:00, scattered areas of rain. as you transition into the afternoon, a chance of seeing some thundershowers as well. and the other thing that will surprise you tomorrow is how cool the afternoon temperatures are going to be. we'll talk about these rather wild changes in the forecast as we get back to the workweek coming up in just a few minutes. >> thank you very much, rob. >>> and peopl

. >> rob mayeda has the forecast. >> it's been breezy this afternoon and evening as we take you outside to san francisco, and you can see the flag there moving around a bit, but mostly sunny skies. a very pleasant day around the peninsula right now where we are seeing temperatures that aren't too bad. mid-60s currently around san francisco. we've got 64 degrees in san francisco currently and in the east bay we're seeing temperatures in the 60s to low 70s. you see san jose actually kind of chilly, 68 degrees. 68 in livermore, 70 in fairfield. on the coast not too bad. this isn't too far off from what you expect this time of year, but you don't expect to see 68 in livermore for the first weekend of summer. the wind is cranking up northwest at 21 miles an hour, a good push of marine air blowing through the bay area right now and that's the reason the temperatures are held down as we see nascar in sonoma tomorrow, the savemart race. we'll be looking at temperatures probably in the low 70s briefly, but another fairly mild finish to the weekend in wine country tomorrow. we'll wake up to some
