for the latest, we bring in meteorologist rob mayeda. have we seen the worst of it, rob? >> we'll relay some of the information in a moment. but first let's show you what's happening on the radar. you're looking at a storm that is tropical storm force winds of almost 400 miles wide. winds sustained at 80 miles per hour, moving inland, it will take about 48 hours before it completely clears the northeast coast there. all that moisture wraps on in. sandy officially transitioned from a hurricane now into a supercharged nor'easter as the low crossed the coast changing into a cold core low. here is the main impact we're seeing in terms of the wind, pushing a wall of water, if you want to think of it that way, slow motion rise in sea level to the jersey shore. and now into lower manhattan. we're seeing a three to six-foot rise coupled with high tides. so this is the latest information from nbc news and our affiliate in new york. 3 million without power, wind gusts even around long island at 80 miles per hour. parts of lower manhattan seeing one to three feet of water. some of t

lots to get to but first time to check that forecast with rob mayeda who's in for christina that morning. >> good morning to you. off to a pretty nice start. clear skies as you saw there in san francisco. 40s, mid-40s around the north bay, 54 san francisco. but gorgeous afternoon forecast today. most of the bay area seeing mid-70s as we actually warm up. valleys seeing numbers in the 70s and 80s this weekend. lots of sunshine to go around. how about the morning commute, mike? >> oh, good stuff right here. oakland, i want to show you other on the left side of the screen as you're coming southbound with the headlights, you see also flashing yellow lights. there's one disabled vehicle on the southbound side and another northbound reported at hagg haggenberger earlier. we're looking at speed sensors for the oakland area on our system. green means you're at the speed limit or probably a little above. there's construction heading up towards 980, no slowing there. tonight there's spookfest, big concert at the coliseum. back to you guys. >>> it wasn't the offensive slugfest we saw in game one bu

rob mayeda has the latest. where does it stand now? >> we're watching this large pin wheel of precipitation rotating around the northeast. it was at this hour last night a category 1 hurricane, crossing the jersey shore. now you can see the low pressure center between pittsburgh and buffalo. winds closer to the center at 45 miles per hour. so the winds have come down, but you can see the rain and heavy snow just to the south. notice the path with this remnant low of what was hurricane sandy will drift up to the north into ontario, north of toronto by tomorrow afternoon. that moisture and that wind is going to subside a little more tomorrow. but tonight in the northeast, you're still seeing nasty weather, northeast of new york into boston, severe thunderstorm warnings and some possible tornado producing storms could be occurring around cape cod until what's left of former hurricane sandy lifts out of the northeast. to that continues to be a problem tonight, even though the main event of the heavy rain and wind is starting to slowly subs

rob mayeda is here to talk about a nice forecast. wouldn't be giving people colds out there. >> no, no. this morning is a little chilly, though. i feel bad for scott. the weather is not helping this morning. we've got numbers in the low 40s outside so as you send the kids off to school a good jacket for the morning but we're talking t-shirt weather by the afternoon. 43 in napa, clear skies. 49 san jose, gilroy down to 42 degrees. not much wind out there now but you'll notice around lunchtime the winds will pick up, especially in the hills. we'll get some winds helping to clear out our skies and warm up the temperatures. right now fog not much of an issue. this happens after you get some recent rain. we get some of that central valley fog that tries to drift into the east valleys. we'll watch that as we go through the weekend. so warming trend begins today. we're looking at numbers by the weekend, 70s and 80s inland. today most of our inland locations getting into the 70s. it looks fine for anything outdoors for your weekend plans but

meteorologist rob mayeda is here. stuff not just the giants forecast, the raiders forecast, and important news about tomorrow morning's commute. >> san mateo bridge they are doing repairs too. that's through 5:00 tomorrow morning. we'll see perhaps rain coming in later on tonight. right now it's chilly outside. we don't have rain outside in terms of the forecast right now. it's cold. we have 40s and 50s. winds picking up through the afternoon. right now southeast winds in san jose. you can see clouds out there. these are mid and high level clouds. not rain producers just yet. those are getting the act together offshore. during the day we'll see increasing clouds. winds out of the south 60s to near 70-degree temperatures at best inland today. mid 60s around san francisco. by 4:00 or just after 4:30 first pitch time, looks like increasing clouds. wind picking up out of the south. if the game goes into extra innings, maybe some sprinkles out there. the main effects of this first system does look like it will come in afte

it was very hot, dangerously so in some places, let's check in with rob mayeda. >> we watched the temperatures and we saw a new record in livermore. we got up to 100 degrees and a "spare the air" day so it wasn't a very comfortable day to be outside with record-breaking temperatures. an interesting note as we look at sonoma this morning, you needed a winter coat outside. 42 to start the day and finished the day at 96 degrees. clear skies, dry air, a5 4 degrees of warming. wild temperature swing. notice the sea breeze or lack of it. not moving into the san francisco and oakland as we head to tomorrow one thing you'll notice is your air conditioner may keep running tonight. look how warm the temperatures are overnight. this is the running start we see to tomorrow's temperatures and by noon tomorrow we'll be already well into the 90s all through the east bay near san jose, so temperatures tomorrow looking hotter than today and yet, tomorrow our fourth consecutive spare-the-air day. we'll let you know when to expect relief and some big changes at the end of the seven-day forecast. >>> police are i

meteorologist rob mayeda joins us with more. what's going on, rob?reporter: diane, we're going from giants torture to weather frur perhaps. we're looking at the forecast tomorrow. but some improving conditions now in the very latest model updates that have just come into the weather center. you can see the rain filling in offshore. we do know that we're going to see quite a bit of rain for tomorrow morning's commute. there is the cold front sweeping on through for the morning. notice the midday break. keep a close eye on san francisco heading toward 5:00. you can see some lively scattered showers. up till about 9:00. then from 10:00 to midnight tl comes in the next band of rain. rainfall totals north of san francisco will get close to a half inch. but watch closely the number in san francisco. from 5:00 to 9:00 those numbers don't move. that's good news. it looks like what rain we do see will be relatively light. even though we're talking about hit and miss showers, maybe a brief delay or two. but again, not heavy rain expected. we're going to call f

>> i'm hearing that from rob mayeda. >> we've been talking about a chance of seeing some changes.ou might notice outside humidity is picking up. we have clouds building over some of our hilltops. in fact, the view over san francisco looking to the north we do have some clouds there atop the marin headlands. you can see the band of low clouds. but the puffy cumulus clouds building in the sky during the day, moisture heating in the day and right over the mountains acting like a ski jump. the air starts to rise, creates the puffy looking clouds. not enough for showers today. but as more moisture and more lift comes into the bay area, yes, we're going to be talking about increasing chance of showers around some of our mountaintops. temperatures 60s and 70s outside. not too far off from today's highs. pretty steady sea breeze, keeping our temperatures in the tri-valley in the low 70s. so the clouds you just saw there north of san francisco, we're seeing a few more right around the santa cruz mountains. and you're on the summit of highway 17. this area especially will see a really good

. >>> we're going to check in with meteorologist rob mayeda on what's going on around the world the country're watching what happened around the coast of british columbia. much of the coast on a tsunami advisory. we're expecting for the northern california coastline, down the mendocino coastline, to eureka. we could see a quarter foot to a half foot rise here. and as is the case with events in the past, sometimes coastal harbors inland can act like a gutter to a bowling alley and funnel in that energy. the fact that we're under an advisory should tell that you the folks at the alaska center expecting wave height rises of less than a foot. this is not an outright warning but still some coastal fluctuations in sea level are possible. any time after midnight to 3:00 in the morning and very likely this will get extended down the central coast, too. so use caution. if you're out at the harbors, you could see some unexpected rises of sea level of slightly above a foot in some of the coastal inlets and bays. 50s and 60s around the bay area. not much of a sea breeze yet. after we wrap up the week o

let's bring in meteorologist rob mayeda on what some are calling a perfect storm. >> it has similaritiess a perfect tropical system ta merged with the low pressure and the two combined for a volatile mix. this scenario has a category one hurricane. by this time tomorrow night it will be crossing over atlantic city in new jersey south of long island. winds of 80 miles an hour. a tropical system bringing a lot of wind and rain and eventually turning to a strong nor'easter with heavy snow on one side and damaging gusts from cape cod all the way down 0 virginia. major weather event for the east coast and something we haven't seen in many decades. we will have to watch that closely tomorrow. for us a cooldown to start the week. by midweek a chance of seeing rain drops. let's talk about the change we will see. the next weather maker for us is wednesday. it means during the day on wednesday, the north bay will see the rain come down. then by looks like trick or treat time, by sundown we will see the showers spreading south through the bay area. for the championship parade, given it starts aet e
