. >>> speaking of that, let's bring in meteorologist rob mayeda. rob, what can you tell bus the weather, the smoke? what's going on there? >> we're seeing a much different view on the satellite from 24 hours ago. now the smoke instead of pouring toward the lake tahoe basin has been shifting south into the san joaquin valley. south of fresno. and as you mentioned, the low visibility at times has grounded those air crews and water drops on the fire today. but it's the spread of that smoke further south that is a real health concern for the san joaquin valley and yosemite valley. particulate pollution much smaller than the width of a human hair and when magnified 900 times you can see what it looks like in lung tissue. if you had asthma or respiratory issues and you have plans tomorrow, we have warnings through labor day in and routine yosemite valley. one other item to watch. we've been seeing some thunderstorms in the area south of yosemite in southern california. some of that moisture may be spilling closer to the bay area by this time tomorrow. tha

rob mayeda has the latest. but we want to begin with nbc bay area's dim -- kimberly tere. >> reporter: the game was delayed for a couple ofl hours. that first pitch was supposed to be at about 1:00 but a lot of work needed to be done to make up for all of that rain. the dugouts needed to be emptied of all of the rainwater. it was a really soggy mess today. this game especially important for fans. they were anxious for it since a win for them move the a's very close to an a.l. west title. in the end the game started at 3:00 p.m. and once the sun came out the stadium was able to dry out. but the rain was heavy and long lasting, ended up having major effects not just here but at events throughout the bay area today. in lafayette, the rain dampened the wine and art festival. but today people had to hold their umbrella with their wine glasses and food plates and they strolled along the arts and crafts. today willow glen yuz celebrating its 150th anniversary. while the party went on, the umbrellas did come out. now w

but we want to bring in rob mayeda. not helping. >> it is unusual at this hour. what you would normally expect to see approaching midnight with a marine layer at 3,000 feet with the humidity levels at 80%. not the case. hot and dry area. acting like a hair dryer and warming things up all weekend long. 21% humidity. the winds have picked up a little bit too, west/northwest at 14 miles an hour. they should stay in the same direction tomorrow. in the diablo valley looking at highs soaring into the mid and upper 90s. with the winds shifting slightly may start to see smoke moving to antioch and maybe the tri-valley and the fire which was burning more to the southwest now backing up and heading more toward the east and northeast as the winds are expected to stay west/northwest for the most part overnight. through the day tomorrow, the humidity levels are dry for this hour. during the day tomorrow we should see the numbers improve in the coast but it's until the sea breeze turns on it is a warm night in the valleys. 60s and 70

right now let's check in with rob mayeda. that kind of got me psyched for ski season. >> some interesting changes in the area around the bay area, not just the rain fall but the wind shift. september 21st, see onshore winds racing through the golden gate racing north the east. and if you can imagine, it's sort of like an elongated football field, the winds moving west to east. but today the cold front on the approach, the rain started develop and the winds moved south to north bring in the moisture from the south and instead of going end zone to end zone, changing the wind direction to go from sideline to sideline. and the race course isn't set up for the southerly winds. the hope was that when the cold front went by that that could shift the wind back. but the winds stayed out of the southwest today. so the race area not in the configuration you would want. there is hope tomorrow, though. we'll see those winds once again coming more out of the west for sunday afternoon. right now still a southwest wind into san francisco. yo
