let's check in with rob mayeda with your microclimate forecast. hi, rob. >> hi there. microclimate, san francisco up to the north bay, seeing things turning cloudy. still partly cloudy skies across the south bay. but all locations beginning to fill in as we head toward tonight. we will see mostly cloudy skies leading up to a chance of seeing rain by the time we wake up tomorrow morning. temperatures still in the 50s outside. now, keep in mind these 6:00 temperatures, we will see high temperatures tomorrow, pretty close to the same numbers you're seeing now. some places out in the east bay only in the low 50s tomorrow with mostly cloudy skies. 52 in san francisco right now. also 52 degrees in half moon bay. the chance of rain, we're talking about tomorrow, going to be a bit of an unusual system. this area of low pressure, already pushing clouds towards the bay area, is going to drop right down the central coast. so while a lot of the rain is going to try to stay offshore, it will be close enough to the bay area to bring us a chance of some rain and possibly the cold air

we want to begin with meteorologist rob mayeda. >> the rain totals, very impressive now. thursday through current time, you can see mt. tam, a foot of rain. santa rosa closing in on 6 inches of rain since thursday. oakland hills, 2 1/2 inches of rain. less south of oakland but that will change tomorrow as the rain moves from north to south. that rain has been falling too heavy at times in the north bay, especially in sonoma county since early in the afternoon. we've been watching this flash flood watch in effect through petaluma. this will continue through 7:45 tonight. we have had many reports of many roadways out here off to the east of petaluma, and areas around windsor creek, seeing flooding. that continues to head up to places like sonoma park expressway, and down around casa grande road. rain coming down too fast causing a number of problems on the roadways in the north bay. joining us live is monty francis with how extremely wet those conditions are, and still, monty, we're seeing flooding out there on the road. >> reporter: well, rob, that's right. we're just sout

let's check your forecast with meteorologist rob mayeda. >> yeah, especially last weekend we had all that heavy rain in the north bay. right now we've got cloudy skies across the bay area. no rain just yet as we're looking at the temperatures climbing into the afternoon that will eventually get into the upper 50s and 60s. the real action is up on the north coast. you can see the clouds spilling over the bay area right now and later on today the significant rain band is going to drop from north to south as we approach the evening. but notice the rain totals. unlike last weekend where we were adding things up by the inch for parts of the north bay. today maybe up to about a half inch in santa rosa. so, despite all that moisture on the satellite, rain totals not looking that impressive and we'll explain why and walk you that through the timing of today's rain and the full forecast come up in a few minutes. >>> the drought here has really triggered alarm bells. the president visited the central valley yesterday with his signature unbuttoned collar and rolled up sleeves. he toured a farm

but first, we want to begin with meteorologist rob mayeda. he's in our weather center. is it really true there's rain in the forecast? >> yeah, we had some rain and much-needed snow. this is weather that will be impacting our sunday forecast. clouds tonight and tomorrow, rain approaching the coast. some of that may include a slight chance of thunder showers off thor as the cooler air aloft moves on top of the relatively warmer ocean air below. this will put a small dent in what is a huge drought situation for california, which got upgraded this last week. we're talking extreme drought for 99% of the bay area. it was made even worse this week for exceptional drought, with likely water short amgs affecting parts of the areas south of morgan hill. this is the worst it can get on the drought severity scale. now let's go to kimberly terry. what are businesses and restaurants having to do to conserve watter? >> reporter: businesses are looking at ways where they can conserve and cut their water use. a hairstylist said there's not a lot of ways they can cut, but she will recon

we want to begin with meteorologist rob mayeda. >> speaking of the rainfall totals this is the most rain we have seen in the last couple of months. saratoga about a half an inch of rain. that was the exception to the rule. santa cruz about a half an inch of rain. getting close to an inch of rain at sfo airport. in the north bay getting over an inch through. look at the totals around half moon bay and spring valley, more than an inch of rain coming down. it was cold enoughi earlier to see pictures like this. as we see most moisture. around fremont you are seeing showers at times. and still offshore some thunder showers off the coast of half moon bay. the bigger picture does look more active. more opportunities for rain in the seven day forecast and possibly big-time snow producer for next weekend. we will talk more about that in the full forecast. >> of course, rain meant some headaches for people across the bay area. let's check in with stephanie. >> reporter: rob just said it some rain and we do have light drizzle out here. even though some you saw earlier bad backups up north along ar

let's go to rob mayeda with more, when we might see rain in our forecast. hello, rob. >> the severity of the drought upgraded this week. we did see extreme drought change over to exceptional drought to the areas down to watsonville. the difference on the map shows you that now we're talking about localized emergencies due to the water restrictions. it does not get any worse than it does right now around the salinas valley up to fresno. you can see still pretty far behind, 18% of where we should be in the central sierra, around lake tahoe. the reservoir to the south of san jose should be closer to 43%. right now sitting at 30%. we will see those levels drop as more people tap into the reserves. good news for the rain in the second half the weekend. it will impact your weekend forecast but could bring much-needed rain back to the bay area. how much of your sunday plans may be affected coming up in the full forecast in a few minutes. >>> see you then. thanks, rob. >>> our weather coverage is always available online. track the forecast and drought conditions at

scbudman is on flood watch in san francisco, but we begin with meteorologist rob mayeda. >> we are watching that rain, heavy at times up around marin county. you can see a very wet commute across san rafael right now but a very contrasting view across the bay. in the south bay in san jose just got cloudy skies. a few light showers at times, but all this about to change as we get into the afternoon. speaking of the north bay, we have these flash flood watches up through 3:00 this afternoon for briefly heavy periods of rain which may cause localized flooding along creeks and streams. we could see a repeat into theel afternoon in the north bay which is where the bull's-eye is on the radar. down towards san rafael and just ort north side of the golden gate bridge you can see that heavy rain coming in from the west and moving across the peninsula within the next ten minutes or so. san jose, still some light rain but all of this is going to change as this front, which has been hung up across the north bay, dropping as much as 14 inches of rain at mt. tam since thursday. that line will drop to the

meteorologist rob mayeda is in the south bay where that rain is moving in. >> but let's begin with chieflogist jeff ranieri. >> the storm is gaining strength, the tighter this thing gets, the more energy it holds and eventually that will hit the california coastline. right now the frontal boundary is moving closer to the coast and that's helping intensify our rainfall, at least over the next three to four hours. you can see this heavy zone of rain to the south, moving from the south to the north. so over the next two to three hours, we'll see this move our way. right now 3/4 of an inch per hour that will be hitting parts of the bay area. not at midnight. a few spotty showers. but 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, some of the heavier rain moves across and the entire bay area will be under this severe weather risk. a possibility of isolated thunderstorms that could produce hail. the other added component is the wind. meteorologist rob mayeda, you're positioned in the perfect spot to track this wind overnight. >> reporter: we've been watching this wind pick up and wind gusts within the last half hour appro

she wins the gold for that move. >>> let's go to rob mayeda for us. >> look at these four day totals.t under seven feet of new snow. a lot of this falling above 6,000 feet. so those high-elevation resorts seeing the benefits of this pattern. north star, squaw, sugar bowl all seeing about 60 plus inches. according to the weather service in reno, that lake tahoe increased by 4 inches. and a lot of snow will hopefully stick around with our sierra snow pack looking more healthy than it did a few days ago. 50 to near 60. 51 with mist not too common around the bay area. and still some light rainshowers at this time. you are going to see this especially over toward the peninsula. you can see a few rainshowers around the tri valley. you will continue to see those misty skies into tomorrow before the skies begin to clear. and we'll see the snow in the sierra shut down as more moisture moves toward the east. the clouds starting to dive toward central and southern california as the main event has come to a finish across the bay area. so just some misty skies through tomorrow. we're going to star

i'm kris sanchez along with meteorologist rob mayeda. it is good to see those clouds. >> it is making for a bit of a different start around the bay area. yesterday we had nothing but sunshine. this morning a lot of gray. looking from emeryville back to san francisco and some misty skies, some of those gray skies we're seeing around the bay area. our temperatures this morning running a little warmer than yesterday. 40s and 50s outside around san jose, but in the north bay we're seeing low clouds a little closer to ground level so we do have some patchy fog with 42 degrees right now in santa rosa. visibility in a few spots dropping down to about a quarter mile at times. so that's something you'll want to watch out for the rest of the morning. as we head into the afternoon, we will see temperatures climbing into the 60s, maybe close to 70 in the tri-valley. but some rain is coming back into the forecast in the middle part of the week. we'll talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. >>> in just about an hour, b.a.r.t. service should b

in fact, we're joined again by my colleague meteorologist rob mayeda. we're watching the river levels very closely. >> we are. in fact, we're at the same location yesterday at the guadeloupe river around san fernando, and the water levels early this afternoon dropped. i don't know if you can hear the raindrops hitting the microphone. the water levels are starting to come up again. that is one of the things we're watching at the river forecast center is expecting for the river levels to rise between now and 9:00 tomorrow morning, back up another 3 1/2 to 4 feet which would bring the water level up to where my knees are now, possibly up to bankful as you approach santa clara street as the rains continue to intensify. you pinpointed it a moment ago, heavy rain coming into san jose. its dumping now. as the rains continue the feed in to the santa cruz mountains and the creeks spill the water out to the guadeloupe we'll see these levels rise as we go through tonight into tomorrow morning, watching that rain fall heavy at times in the south bay. >> the other t

>> i'm going to check right now with rob mayeda. >> tomorrow morning, it's fog that is really the onlyrn. patchy low clouds in san francisco. i think towards santa rosa, you will see visibilities less than a mile. right now it's gilroy. and on the coast you're seeing patchy fog. some of our your land valleys will see patchy fog. another warm day as we head through the day tomorrow. right now, no rain on the radar view, but a very active view in the pacific as that storm system that was sitting way off shore, notice it's getting closer to t the coast. the ridge of high pressure will bring us one more day of 60s and 70s will move off toward the east and open the runway for these weather systems to come on flying in. the first one bringing us periods of rain with gusty winds and another system to follow on friday that still looks to bring us the heavier amounts of rain. so during the day wednesday, the rain will be increasing. winds picking up out of the south. as you can see, the bull's eye across the bay area. friday's a different story. you have the energy toward the south. santa cruz

meteorologist rob mayeda is in the weather center with more possible rain on the way. but we start with kimberly tere with what's being done to conserve. >> reporter: people are well aware of the need to conserve water here, and they've been through this routine before, from previous droughts that have happened in california, and have hit this region hard. we just spoke to a woman who said she's taking much shorter showers, and also washing her dishes much more quickly every time she turns on the faucet. she's well aware of the amount of water she's using. she said this is important to do this now to have enough available in the long term for critical needs like drinking water. those who have been around for previous droughts say they've had practice at this, and they are doing whatever they can to conserve, which is not washing cars. and also, not watering lawns. as for restaurants, many across the tri valley area are not serving customers water unless it's specifically

we're joined by my colleague, rob mayeda. we've got cheryl hurd right there, but these winds are going to ramp up. >> reporter: they're picking up about 10 to 15 miles per hour. but here is the reason why we know they're going to turn quite a bit stronger overnight, heading into tomorrow morning, a rare situation for the bay area, the low pressure that you typically see in seattle and portland. this is going to be aiming in toward the bay area. you see a low parked off the central coast, and how we forecast wind is the difference in pressure from point a to point b. in this case, the low will get so strong at 980 millibars, under those conditions, you can get wind gusts approaching 50 miles per hour. with that in mind, there is a dangerous wind potential for those coastal areas and mountain zones which have prompted a wind advisory. we could see that upgraded to oo high wind watch or warning. that is one part of the weather story they're watching very closely. and yes, the winds here near campbell, starting to peck up. we'll

we're joined by rob mayeda. and you're along the guadalupe river where things got serious. >> reporter: yes, we've had that dry spell, but a lot of the rain coming down in three hours' time brought the guadalupe river up fast. you can see the grasses here pushed down as that water level rose about two to three feet higher than it is now. it got right about where this rock is here. even though the rain has backed off, the water is still moving fast. as is typical when you get a storm that drops 1, 2 inches of rain, you get a lot of debris in the creeks. and it changes the flow of the streams and creeks. with that in mind with the forecast for potentially several inches of rain, all the problems we saw play out along the guadalupe river could play out along a much larger area. we will be watching those rain totals closely. and we'll have a full look at the forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> we could see some flooding. thank you. >>> let's turn things over to jodi hernandez who's been gauging how people feel a

i'm kris sanchez along with meteorologist rob mayeda who has a look at a forecast with some rain in it rain right there around san francisco over towards oakland. we'll zoom you in a little closer right across the bay bridge and out towards treasure island and off to the north around alcatraz. we have showers moving on through. moderate rain at times. the areas in yellow starting to spill across the bay area. san jose starting to see a few sprinkles. look at that offshore, this is the area, the santa cruz mountains, that will be the heaviest rain as it goes through the afternoon. the system winding up, moving down the coast later today. widespread rain at times off and on, changing over to showers as it moves through the afternoon. notice by 11:00 tonight and midnight showers shutting down and moving off into southern california. today's highs will be quite cool. we're looking at numbers today that will be in the 50s for most of the bay area. low 50s for highs today, including san jose 54 degrees. 53 around the peninsula and into the north bay, highs around 50 for your sunday with some

let's check in with meteorologist rob mayeda who has a look at your forecast. >> this morning we're startingthe p bay area. our rain totals just enough to wet the ground in spots overnight. you did see just under 0.1 of an inch of rain from the north bay to the south bay and most of the action has moved off to the east. speaking of the east, if you head to the sierra, still some snow showers at times, at least for the next couple of hours before the moisture heads off into southern nevada. temperatures today around the south bay should be in the low 60s in san jose, upper 50s to low 60s in san francisco. mid-60s in the friday valley and the seven-day forecast shows temperatures climbing approaching next weekend. >>> a developing store you now out of the east bay where police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a burn victim at redwood regional park in the oakland hills. park police found the person in the parking lot on skyline boulevard. that is the skyline gate entrance to the park. the area where the victim is discovered is above montaclairm. park police are w
