meteorologist rob mayeda joins us with our microclimate forecast. you have a lot going on. >> all sorts of conditions, clearing in san francisco. patchy, dense fog in napa, outside towards hillsberg. a tour along the coast. half moon bay, there's a nice inspirational start to the morning. piller point looki pillar point, and ocean beach, 53. san jose, stuck in the clouds. you can see there. 53 degrees. still a few showers trying to clear out of the south bay. you see cloud cover for areas basically south of the san mateo bridge this morning. off to the west, though, is a lot more cloud cover as we head into sunday we will see a little more rain here to wrap up the weekend. so a quick view of what we're expecting going into tomorrow. notice the rainfall map here. blue and green means generally less than one-third inch to a quarter inch of rain. see the maps, red and purple, meaning two to three inches of rain with the storms. not as much rain but timing impact the second half of the weekend. we'll show you more coming up in about 15 minutes from now.

meteorologist rob mayeda joining with us the timeline be. >> still partly cloudy skies. san francisco, 54 degrees. a chilly night in store as lows drop into the 40s. right now, storm ranger mobile doppler radar looking lonely atop the mountain. not finding anything to scan underneath the clouds just yet. in the next 12 to 18 hours, that is subject to change. a lot of cloud cover offshore. that will eventually mean a mostly cloudy finish to the weekend with some rain at times. generally totals about a quarter inch or less we think for most of the bay area. in the esarah, lowering snow levels and things turning breezy. locations that will likely see the most rain, a familiar tune, hills of north bay perhaps a half inch of rain. south bay areas around san jose probably closer to a tenth inch of rain. you can see in the sierra as the snow picks up during the afternoon, winter driving conditions. snow lebs close to 4,000 feet. coming up, we'll talk about gusty winds starting to take shape for the beginning of the week and stronger wind gusts towards the end of the forecast. c

we begin with meteorologist rob mayeda who is tracking this winter blast. >> which included thunder, rain, sleet and snow east of downtown san jose this evening. we had around 8:30 tonight. it was that particular cell that dropped quite a bit of hail down on 280 where christie smith is reporting live from in a few minutes. what we are seeing the widely scattered showers and sleet near mt. tam in the north bay. the futurecast starting at 3:00 a.m. right at the start of the morning commute. the areas in yellow and orange and the heavier showers crossing over the bay area will bring a chance of hail and snowfall down to 2,000 feet. we could see sleet mixed with the heavier showers on the mountain roadway commutes into parts of the east bay. we'll take a look at how long the winter blast will stick around coming up in the micro climate forecast in 12 minutes. >>> breaking news on the peninsula. the chp is warning drivers to slow down. christie smith along 280 in south city with that part of the story. >> reporter: well, yes, terry, the neighbors on the streets are slowing down too. i wan

meteorologist rob mayeda is thinking about baseball but also a warm spell this week. >> we're seeing temperatures from belvedere back to san francisco, look at that, 75 degrees right now. downtown san francisco seeing a bit of a late day sea breeze almost like a summer afternoon. 68 degrees after reaching 70 earlier, mid-70s, too, from walnut creek down into san jose. 75 degrees. most locations today about 2 to 6 degrees warmer than the same time yesterday. and typical of what we get in an almost spring or summerlike pattern, you still see low 60s around half moon bay. 77 in concord. so we've got on-shore winds. along the coast that may bring in a patch or two of low clouds. still got numbers from the mid-40s to start the day. dress in layers. you'll need a jacket probably through about 9:00 in the morning, then look at the hour by hour forecast. for places like san jose you'll see temperatures starting off close to 50, then soaring into the mid-70s by 2:00. a few spots can be closing in on 80 degrees. >> what a difference a week makes. you can track the forecast with our free nbc ba

rob mayeda is tracking the timeline. >> right now still seeing cloudy skies around the bay area but not all that chilly in san jose. 65 degrees with gray skies. bit cooler as the sea breeze and the low clouds creeping over the coastal mountains. 66 degrees in tiburon. the radar view today has had a few light showers into sonoma county and marin county. but you can see the radar right now, not a lot happening, even though we have a lot of clouds here moving across the coast. here you see the rotation off shore. this is the band of moisture that's going to come through during the day tomorrow. so yes, spring officially gets under way before sunrise tomorrow. but it's going to be on hold for the bay area. we've got rain making a comeback. gusty winds up to 35 miles per hour. a chance at isolated thunder and a second storm due in on friday. what's important to point out is this second storm, rainfall totals for the next two days not expected to be as extreme as we saw back in february, but notice sonoma county, some of the higher hills, 1 to 2 inches of rain. same story in the santa cruz mo
