let's get to our meteorologist rob mayeda. rob, will it get better tomorrow and over the weekend? >> well, we hope as we get toward the weekend. but over my shourlgd this is what's so unusual, to see air quality this bad any time of day sun usual for the bay area but at night especially so. spare the air conditions typically in orange, an aqi of 100. what we have instead from san francisco through oakland through the tri-valley and san jose is unhealthy for all groups. aqi index up to 150. the smoke being pumped down from the north from the pacific northwest roaring right through the bay area with that sea breeze during the afternoon. so during the day tomorrow we're likely to see similar conditions from the bay to coast, the inland, east bay and south bay seeing unhealthy air quality. smoke advisory, by the way, all the way until about su. you want to reduce that outdoor activity tomorrow, especially on pre-existing medical conditions. check on the kids and the elderly during the day. we'll let you know when the air will start to clear this weekend. and a big shift in the wind he

we bring in meteorologist rob mayeda who has been tracking the conditions for us. just another gray, murky day ouout there. >> you just can't see mt. diablo to the east right now. bit of good news, heat no longer the issue as we go back to the work week but smoke continues to be the problem out of the major wildfires burning to the north, the denser smoke for the most part staying away from the bay area, but at times we see the smoke drifting in from the north. we'll get another run of that smoke coming in likely this evening into tomorrow morning. the air quality, the hazy skies you're looking at is moderate but again, good enough for a tomorrow through tuesday, we'll continue to see similar conditions if those hazy skies, technically not a spare the air day but if you've got asthma or any preexisting respiratory conditions smoke pollution is the key factor over the next few days. north bay and east bay likely to see the worst of the smoke pollution over the next 48 hours. temperatures though is a big drop. look at that, 90s still inland but even those numbers bay

let's bring in our meteorologist rob mayeda. it looks bad out there. any sign of this to clear out here, rob? >> we really need the winds to clear out the smoke anywhere from 5,000 feet down to sea level. you see the view from concord. you can't see mt. diablo right now. check out the view in dublin, as everything west here, the dublin gray disappears into some of that smoke. most of the bay area seeing un -- the north bay into the tri-valley. this coordinator from berkeley, oakland down into hayward, west over the peninsula, that is unhealthy for all groups right now. we have a smoke advisory now through sunday. here is what is different about today. smoke from the north bay fires plus smoke from the pacific northwest sweeping in across the bay area. we'll likely see more of this pollution over the next 24 hours spilling down from the north. as you see here in this model here, our next 24 hours, that smoke hangs out, thickest around the north bay. during the day tomorrow as the sea breeze starts to pick up, we should see skies clear a little bit but th

rob mayeda is tracking where it is headed. it's been a challenging year in hawaii. >> the big island will likely see the heaviest rain out of the storm. slight weakening compared to 24 hours ago. category four now, winds of 130 miles per hour. we take a hook look at the prim impact area around the islands of hilo. typically, hilo gets 130 inches per year. but they could see 20 to 30 inches, which could be one to two months' rain falling in two days' time. the storm itself, the center may stay offshore. but as you heard at the national weather service office in honolulu, the impacts could be lashing the hawaiian islands starting now all the way into saturday evening as a category one hurricane, starting to curve off to the west. we'll have a closer update in ten minutes and issues with our own unhealthy air quality in ten minutes. >> speaking of our air quality, it's from a lot of smoke from the fires around us in the bay area, but there is a fire actively in the bay area. we're following breaking news in the east bay, a brush

meteorologist rob mayeda has more on that. rob? >> short term along those fire lines we're seeing a little less wind but temperatures still up. 70s around the mendocino complex and to the north around redding, temperatures still in the upper 70s there. we will likely see those temperatures really start to climb on up. you heard earlier how the air is actually quite hazardous around yosemite. you can see on this map, unhealthy for everybody basically from stockton into fresno and into that yosemite, that area there in purple, air quality that is actually hazardous to breathe. through the next few days, chance of that smoke drifting back into the bay area. fire danger on the rise as temperatures climb and places around the bay area and those east bay valleys could be closing in on 100 degrees. we'll bring you the time line and our forecast in ten minutes. >>> we now know name of the pg&e worker killed in the car fire near redding. jaris ayeda. he died yesterday while trying to restore power in an area described as dangerous terrain.
