. >> meteorologist rob mayeda, joining us. >> more sunshine and less wind. it's a blustery evening around the bay area. you see the wind speeds, 20 to 30 miles per hour, and the wind speeds brought by a weather system that brought light showers. that was a surprise for folks early in the day. you can see how most of the action is off to the east between low pressure heading over the sierra and high pressure building from the west. that is the cause of our windy conditions tonight and we have one more item to watch, around 11:00 tonight, the tail end of the weather system moving down the sacramento valley will pass the bay area. might see a brief shower out of that around san jose. after that, easter sunday is looking less windy, and the start of a warming trend. we'll be looking at temperatures around this time tomorrow, back in the 70s and have the seven-day forecast, could have 80s and maybe even close to 90 degree temperatures. we'll talk about some summer like heat coming our way in about 12 minutes. >> crank it up. thanks a lot. >>> still ahead on nbc b

let's bring in rob mayeda. >> not how much wind going on. that's part of the story. warm air pocket begins to rise away from the ground, as the ground warms up, it heats the air above. and as the column of warm air rises and stretches up higher in the atmosphere we see the winds at the surface begin to accelerate and the spinning motion begins to increase. so if wind speed's strong enough to pick up debris and cause damage to rooftops, and that can stay in motion until cool air comes in or the warmer updraft shuts down and the dust devil begins to break up. some of these stronger dust devils can pack a punch of an ef-0 tornado, winds of 65-85 miles per hour. as you just saw out there in fairfield, that is good enough for rooftop damage at times. as you can see, clear skies, light wind, warm air rising is the perfect recipe for dust devils. right now it's not dust devils we're tracking. the return of gusty winds that could be strong enough to cause damage. a closer look at that in the forecast in about 15 minutes. >> it is worth another look. we posted that video of t

the traffic is flowing, and so is the wind as we bring in rob mayeda.ou said it was going to be windy, did you say it was going to be this windy? >> the wind is moving faster than the cars. we have gusts above 40 miles per hour. and another wind advisory for the coast and san francisco. and you may have noticed, we had a few sprin equals earlier. the weather system that came through brought a lot of clouds, now the clouds are starting to clear and the winds have picked up. there you see cloudy skies to the east. and look how the wind is pushing the water from right to left across your screen. you can see from the emeryville camera, where the wind speeds are 23 miles per hour. close to 43 miles per hour, san francisco and the coast. but those winds in the 30- 30-40-mile-per-hour range now through 8:00 tonight. notice the purple on the map. we begin to see the wind speeds back off a bit. and during the day tomorrow, breezy. the wind should be about half as vopg strong as we're seeing right now. still a little wind to contend with, just not as gusty. tempe

rob mayeda is with us now.s like tornado alley in oklahoma. >> it happens on a day where there's sunshine, clear skies out there, warm air rising, light wind environment. it's the unique set of circumstances. if you look at the graphic we're about to show you, it begins with a rotating column of dust on the ground. as that column rises higher into the sky, you begin to see those wind speeds accelerate. and as that spinning motion increases, what you might not know about dust devils is that wind speeds can get a strong as 65 to 75 miles per hour, which is actually close to an ef 0 tornado. you saw the damage there. rooftop damage, fences and things like that could get tossed around by those types of winds. again, it sometimes happens right out of clear skies and light winds like we saw out if stanley cup play, now 56 degrees in san jose. your first forecast for game two out there at the s.a.p. center for friday. similar temperatures for game two friday evening. hopefully a similar outcome as wel well. for tomorr
