meteorologist rob mayeda is in for vianey with a look at your microclimate forecast. you talked about cooling temperatures and i felt i could feel it this morning. thank the heavens. >>> yeah, we're seeing temperatures in the upper 40s, up around santa rosa and all attention on the big kickoff forecast here on nbc bay area. 49ers on "sunday night football." that in a moment. clear skies with areas of smoke. you're seeing some of that around san jose. and look at the fog closer to san francisco. the temperatures, as kira mentioned, is chilly. 48 in santa rosa. 59 in san jose. good news in terms of the air quality this is a pretty big change. good to moderate back in the green and yellow around san jose. the same for san francisco and the east bay. just around the glass fire. the forecast, hazy skies. we don't think air quality will be an issue. kickoff temperatures in the mid-80s and for your tailgating from home around the bay area today another warm day inland. lots of 90s. midafternoon for the valleys. 70s and 80s bay side and then stay tuned, look at the extended f

let's start with rob mayeda.ings looking like out there. >> what we are worrying about is happening right now. humidity level dropping to single digits. livermore winds out of the north. check out this wind gust at the top of the hour. 84. helena, near 70 miles per hour. north bay we are seeing sustained winds. you can see that area of red beginning to see some of those higher wind speed and look at the humidity. sing single digits and napa and livermore. that's the progression now. stronger winds out of the north bay. the wind advisory we are seeing now takes us through 11:00 a.m. tomorrow, however the red flagg warning is going to be active all the way to 5:00 p.m. on tuesday. we'll have a closer look at these wind speeds hour by hour and when we'll see less of the fire danger from our forecast coming up. >> okay, we'll check in with you then. >>> fire danger always a concern there this time of the year in sonoma county. north of sonoma where the winds are starting to pick up, sergio quintana. >> reporter: the

let's check in with rob mayeda right now. a walk in the park is not what it used to be, rob. >> no, not by the end of the weekend. even though the fact that even at this hour we're still seeing an on shore sea breeze, cool conditions, and some drizzle and mist in a few spots to start the day, we're going to see things changing around midday tomorrow. in the meantime, sit a cool start to the weekend. as we show you the temperatures around the bay area, numbers mostly in the 60s. quite a change from the weather about a week ago. notice the wind right now is on shore. wind speeds 10 to 20. but humidity levels for now object that bad. a cool 60 degrees. 60s around walnut creek. wind speeds up, humidity coming down late sunday afternoon into sunday evening. san jose 69 degrees and the weather headlines as we wrap up the weekend, gusty wind increasing during the day tomorrow across the north bay hill tops. red flag warning at 11:00 a.m. for the bay area, and we'll see the power impacts, the ones pg&e is manning and possibly some unp

thom jensen. >>> let's check in with rob mayeda. we got some warm temperatures and winds coming up, we are exactly where we have been the last couple of weeks, rob. >> yes. it is really kind of an unfortunate classic pattern of mid delay. the fog made a welcome come back and dropping off our temperatures considerably. we'll take you over to san francisco where we cool down into the 60s. we had highs today only in the 60s. that's 20 degrees cooler than the 90s. and in san jose at 59 degrees. if you saw the game tonight, raj and janelle out there, that breeze starting to kick up right around kickoff time. now notice for the morning, patchy fog, drizzles and possible on the coast, highs tomorrow tomorrow. upper 80s and cooling continue during the day. north bay hill of a thousand feet. it will be a return of a north breeze picking up. that's a first three wind period. we'll be watching closely over the next seven days, tuesday is our first and that's coming up monday night and tuesday and fire weather watch for the north bay hill. diab

let's get to rob mayeda. he is tracking all of that. rob. >> yeah, and that fire activity obviously impacting the smoke around the bay area. but the area that was just reissued the red flag warning is in the north bay hills where we're seeing conditions along the glass fire still in the 90s with some very dry conditions. humidity at about 11% and the wind is out of the northwest at about 10 to 20 miles per hour. for this area, between now and 6:00 a.m., higher elevations will continue to see those gusts out of that northwest wind. so we may see that fire pushing slightly to the south and east based on that wind direction. now, the smoke continues to pour into especially inland contra costa county. you're seeing the view there in walnut creek where it's 94 degrees. notice the areas in red still from areas around walnut creek down into san ramon and livermore. down into the south bay, san jose seeing some unhealthy air, and the wind picking up a little bit in santa rosa is actually slightly improving the air quality picture there. as we he

rob mayeda joining us live. he is tracking it all. rob. >> yeah. we're closely watching the smoke, which actually within the last couple of hours has made a rather significant shift off to the east. we'll look at that in a moment. first let's show you the source of the smoke. of course that is the fire burning up there in the north bay, the glass fire. current conditions have come down. notice the northwest wind, which was a real problem today. that has backed off, now down to 71 degrees. humidity still 26%. on the higher hilltops of the north bay, still seeing a dry northwest wind into the morning. that's going to keep the local red flag warning for the north bay hills up until 6:00 a.m. during the day tomorrow we should not see the gusty winds or the extremely hot temperatures we had earlier today. notice green coming back to santa rosa. rohnert park down into sonoma, we're seeing similar conditions into the east bay as well. you can see oakland and san francisco back in the green. and into san jose, back into the moderate air quality as a bit of

more closures could follow. >>> let's check in with rob mayeda right now. and rob, so much of what we're talking about is so weather dependent, the dangers to the parks, the firefighters, et cetera, the warnings in berkeley. what's the latest? >> it's all wind driven and it's the gusty offshore winds we think are going to have a profound effect between the morning weather and afternoon weather. we've got the cool onshore winds but watch what happens as the offshore winds pick up pushing it well-off shore and that's a classic footprint of active fire weather critical to extreme fire weather for the bay area and northern california. outside right now it doesn't feel like it. we still have the onshore sea breeze in san francisco where we've got temperatures comfortably cool. humidity 17% and 59 degrees and notice the low clouds coming in. and out around walnut creek, 64 degrees, a very cool evening. light jacket weather out there. humidity at 63%. wind, though, here's the key point still coming off the bay west-southwest about 11 miles per hour. and san jose w

rob mayeda tracking it all for us. >> at some point it does have to cool down and we're going to see some of that cool down at the coast. minor cooling starting tomorrow, but the elevated fire danger especially from the higher hills, that's going to be an ongoing issue for the next several days. here's some good news. after two to three days of very gusty winds, wind speeds have started to come down. it was a record breaking day in san francisco. a high of 93 degrees. tying a record of that same temperature, san jose did break a record going up to 95 degrees. breaking the record setback in 1903 of 94. so hot temperatures here as we start the week. again, the temperature trend will be a little bit cooler, but keep in mind the valleys tomorrow including the inland east bay we'll have another day in the 90s before those changes kick in, what we're closely watching is the potential for more north winds at times. a closer look at the timing on that and if there's anying in the rainfall outlook. >> we'll see you then. >>> a violent start to the weekend in san jose after a gunman opened fir

meteorologist rob mayeda is in for vma. he joins us with a peek at your microclimate forecast that includes poor air quality, hot temperatures, but we're starting out with a cold morning, rob. >> yeah. you know, it's interesting. we've reached the time of year now where some parts of the bay area are waking up in the 40s. we have that around santa rosa this morning, but the more common theme, unfortunately, is a view like this around walnut creek with a bit of a red sunrise occurring around the bay area. you see all the smoke around walnut creek, inland contra costa county on the map this morning. you can see all the areas in red, essentially from the berkeley hills east, through the tri-valley, the creek through sunol and livermore. the worst is around yountville, windsor and calistoga, in the purple, very unhealthy, aqi number over 200. more moderate along the inner coast and bay where a weak sea breeze has brought in clouds this morning. air quality conditions are not expected to change a lot as we head into the afternoon

rob mayeda here to explain. >> the average highs this time of year should be mid-70s, but how about mid-90s around the bay area? temperatures close to 85 degrees. so a bit of a warm weekend to start. a little bit of cooling, but that fire danger is certainly going to stay high as we head into the next seven days. i'll explain them coming up in our extended forecast. let's take you outside, show the temperatures still quite hot at least by mid-october standards. walnut creek, still 93 degrees, humidity at 16%. if you're wondering why we're not getting any red flag warnings at this hour, it's the wind. the wind at least have backed off, but that's dry desert-like air. and notice bayside, 0% humidity, still 77 degrees in san francisco. 89 degrees and humidity at 19%. keep in mind foorm we have of course this time it might be in the second quarter of the game at this .49ers taking on the rams right here nbc bay area. kick off at 5:20 in the evening. and instead of the mid-90s we saw today we're expecting some mid-80s around kick off time. so still well above average. here's a bit of good ne
