rob mayeda. anything at all in the forecast? >> that's the big story, this time of year we see storms every two, three days. instead more sunshine out there. this trend got started after the 7th of january, 24 dry days in a row in january to wrap up the month and add five more in february and 29 days since the last rainfall and the forecast moving forward, possibly means that we're looking at another ten days of dry weather through the middle part of the month, which means that number could go up to 39 days. the same problem continues, consistent high pressure over california. close enough at the coast and incoming storms missed us and gave us gusty, dry north winds which fanned the flames of the colorado fire at big sur. next week we will see more wind with surprisingly warp temperatures and a few areas close to 80 degrees. we'll have a close look at the impact of the seven-day forecast in a few minutes. >>> while it remains dry here, in other parts of the nation thousands woke up without power

meteorologist rob mayeda is in today. it's a super bowl weekend, how' plans this weekend. of temperatures kind of like we're seeing outside right now which in the case of san jose, 77 degrees. that's a new record high. the old record was 73. you've got the sunshine, hazy skies. towards livermore, 75 currently. average highs this time of year ought to be in the low 60s so well above average in terms of the temperatures. 74 in walnut creek. san francisco, clear skies, haze in the air, 72 degrees currently in san francisco. one change later on this evening, increasing high clouds will start the day tomorrow with some high clouds over the bay area, which by the way could make for a beautiful sunrise tomorrow morning if you're out extra early. after 9:00, the clouds start to clear out of the south bay. sunshine, and if you loved today's temperatures, we're going to see the exact same thing, a copy and paste forecast, into saturday. 40s and 50s to start things off around 7:00 a.m. by lunchtime, upper 60s and low 70s. for those outdoor plans. and look at the high temperatures aga

rob mayeda is in for kari.ld in some places. >> we're waking up to temperatures in the 30s and 40s around the bay area and you think you might need the jacket all day long, but by lunchtime we'll see numbers rebounding out of the 30s and 40s to 70s for parts of the bay area today. we'll go from clear skies to a few high clouds, but likely not getting in the way of a fast warm-up. morning temperatures will stay in the 40s through 8:00, and then by noon climbing into the low 70s by the santa clara county and for all valley locations today, tri-valley, north bay and san jose into the 70s. but there's a chance we could see upper 70s down toward san martin and morgan hill today. similar temperatures again for your tuesday. then we begin to see numbers drop off for highs on wednesday, and then a big-time drop in temperatures by thursday. that weather whiplash brought to you by a weather system that's going to bring us rain chances and sierra snow. starting thursday into friday, you can see how showers start to move o

let's go ahead and bring in meteorologist rob mayeda now. rob, you're tracking this change in temps but also rain and maybe even snow in our bay area hills. >> yeah. another component right now we're seeing tonight is the wind. it is very gusty right now in san francisco. west at 17 miles per hour. earlier we had gusts up to 46 miles per hour at sfo. san mateo, sustained winds at 32. this is part of a weather system, a frontal boundary passing by to the east. what we're watching here for those low snow levels and showers, moving down from the pacific northwest, it is an inland track. so it doesn't have a lot of moisture with it, but look at that cold air surging southward as we get into tuesday. that's going to drive our snow levels down and also the weather system appears to be speeding up slightly. so now we've added shower chances tomorrow afternoon out of the north bay. then as we head towards this time tomorrow night, colder air arriving, which means increasing chances of snow as low as 2,000 to 3,000 feet heading into tuesday morning. w

rob mayeda is in for kari this morning. nice temperatures expected? >> yeah. already we're seeing 60s across the board and we're on pace. as early as than, an hour from now, we should be closing in on close to 70 degrees. and look at that. south san jose, 65. we'll take out a tour of the bay area right now. you see sunny skies in downtown san jose right now. 63 degrees, approaching the mid 60s around the tri-valley. and 63 currently in livermore. and notice, too, the wind direct in walnut creek. a little offshore breeze at six miles per hour. 64, and nothing but sunshine right now in san francisco where we're expecting numbers today. close to the upper 60s. now, we've got clear skies here but very interesting, the weather that is happening just off to the north. heavy rains. we have flash flood watches and warnings from coastal oregon to the cascades in western washington. that is a level four on a scale of five of an atmospheric storm. making a big impact. for us now, we're just seeing a few high clouds at times as we head through the afternoon and it should

meteorologist rob mayeda is tracking a warm-up.s going to talk about super bowl weekend coming up. >>> what's going to happen after the mask mandate expires next tuesday? will we still be required to wear one? it's actually up to each county. and tonight, many bay area counties remain undecided. each county has to decide by february 15th, that's next tuesday. solano and marin counties tell us they plan to follow the state's recommendations, meaning no more masks inside for most people. nearly all other local counties have told us they're still not sure. ucsf epidemiologist dr. george rutherford thinks the state and its guidance is correct. >> i think the timing's appropriate. i think that we've seen a 70% decline since the peak of omicron wave on january 14th. >> but other doctors, including a former u.s. surgeon general, disagree, saying it's still too early to ditch the masks. all counties will announce their plans in the next few days based on their local data, no matter their decision, masks will continue to be mandatory in sch

. >> let's check in with rob mayeda and we have got a change in the weather to say the least coming upoling to wrap up the weekend but bigger changings lying down the road as we head toward tuesday. tomorrow morning, we have got some patchy fog, high clouds, temperatures mostly in the 40s. by lunchtime, should see low 60s around san jose and by 3:00 in the afternoon, mid-60s for highs around san jose. upper 50s to low 60s bay side again. little cooler, not as many 730s like we enjoyed today. now,by got more clouds for sunday. these will not bring us the showers. those will be arriving as we head into monday night knight and tuesday as this air mass that settles in will be very cold. we are talking snow levels possibly below 3,000 feet during the day on tuesday. so the one weather day that looks pretty wild around the bay area, though the rain totals won't be big, will be the scattered showers. if you look closely here, by tuesday afternoon, you really start to see the snow possibly coming down on higher peaks of the north bay, diablo range, and even the santa cruz mountains do get some
