let's bring in meteorologist rob mayeda. something for everybody this week, rob.eah, we've been watching those changes in the weather as we take a look at the forecast moving forward. we've got temperatures in the 70s and 80s outside earlier today. and it's been a nice finish to the weekend. but we're about to see some changes. first up tomorrow we've got the beach hazards statement due to rough surf surf building off the northwest swell at 6 to 8ft. watch for fast shore run up sneaker waves and strong rip currents. then comes the midweek rain chance. but look at the totals. pretty underwhelming here. unfortunately, i think the biggest story of the week isn't the midweek rain chance. it's what follows it, and it looks like a typical october pattern of gusty, dry offshore winds. this is a big problem as we could see daytime dry conditions as we wake up to that on friday morning. so moving forward, the issues are that rain midweek, not offsetting the potential for fire danger. as we head into friday and saturday of a closer look at that in the forecast coming up in

hurricanes thrive in a warm ocean environment, and nbc bay area meteorologist rob mayeda says what'sferent now due to climate change are that temperatures have set records in the tropical atlantic and gulf of mexico. what you're seeing there is the warmest of those above average temperatures, right where that particular hurricane was 24 hours ago. so with climate change, this becomes more possible. this becomes more likely to go from category one to category five in a 24 hour cycle. and rob adds that sadly, storms like milton and helene are examples of what we can expect in a warming climate moving forward. raj jes. thank you. i'm chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. the live scan right now of milton has it over the yucatan peninsula. we're going to take the track of this as it heads towards florida. i'll have the brand new update plus back here in the bay area. cooler weather finally on the way, even a shower chance. i'll see you in just about six minutes. also, the northern lights in northern california. new video and photos just into our newsroom. look at this. the sky tonight and th

so come back at five and rob mayeda will be here to tell you if we did indeed hit that century mark into the afternoon, it will still be toasty as you make your exit plans there in santa clara and staying in the south bay. now behind that we are counting down to a cooldown. i know it can't come fast enough, but we're getting more activity here in our long range outlook. by the middle of the week, a few systems to our west are going to bring in more of our natural ac, more cloud cover, and even a hint and possibility of some rain up there towards the corner of the state. so we'll watch that and watch those temperatures dip. i know for tomorrow we're not going to get rid of that heat just yet. turning it off very quickly. but by tuesday we could be looking at more of a drop back down into the 80s and low 90s for our inland valleys. so i think that's better than the triple digits for today. we'll cool it down into the 90s for tomorrow, but then pretty much cruise into the week with some seconds and more cloud cover. san francisco very warm for today, but i think it should be spectacular as

rob mayeda here though, with some potential rain on the way. yeah. interesting week ahead. warm temperatures inland next couple of days, but only 80s and rain chances. and then wind. we'll have to watch those winds as we head towards the end of the wee. but in the meantime, pretty pleasant start to the week, much like the way we wrapped up the weekend with temperatures later on tomorrow in san jose, going back to the mid to upper 70s, you see 66 degrees, no low clouds around san jose. we'll see patches of low clouds heading towards morning. 67 degrees currently in dublin and up towards san rafael. 61 degrees. low clouds moving back towards san francisco. there you see the view around downtown, 59 degrees. and one thing to watch. also tomorrow, no rain to worry about. maybe some mist with some of those low clouds. but the beach hazard statement has returned. we'll talk about the coastal danger in terms of surf for your monday coming up right now. 50s and 60s around the bay. we've got those onshore winds and there is a look at the beach hazard statement. the direction of that

time are not getting down to the bay area, of course, but you might recall back in may, our own rob mayedaactually took this shot. this was from danville. wow, that's incredible. well, lisa's getting a little closer to us. don't have to drive all the way to la, right? i can't travel right now, but maybe it will come to me right? you know, it is making its arrival. what cooler? well, i'm taking it. yes. welcome, welcome. right now we're waking up to some 50s on this map. i feel like we've even missed the 50s at this hour. notice santa rosa, 56 degrees sonoma. also at about 57. san jose right now is at 67. danville, 60 degrees san francisco 60. and let's talk about the change compared to the past 24 hours. if you look at san francisco running about ten degrees cooler, hayward eight degrees cooler. so what can we expect for this afternoon? well, i do want to remind folks that we're still very dry. so there are still some spots, including concord, brentwood, livermore and also the hilltop areas that remain under a heat advisory until 7 p.m. because even though we're starting to cool off, when
