we're going to go ahead and switch gears now because i am here with meteorologist rob mayeda. rob, it's still another hot day. everyone's wondering when is it going to finally cool down? i saw your face when you looked at. i was like, oh, here we go again, right? it's been day eight, but finally i have some good news to deliver. here you can see the 24 hour temperature change. finally getting some cooling right now. half moon bay down 22 degrees. not helping us out at all inland, but some cooler changes just around the corner. as we take you to that microclimate forecast. notice the onshore wind starting to pick up. that's one component of the cooling, the strengthening onshore wind. and eventually we'll see more of those coastal low clouds and fog making a comeback. right now, not a lot on the satellite, but during the day tomorrow, i think we'll begin to see patchy areas of low clouds for the morning and eventually more of those low clouds as we move forward into the afternoon. that will be the coolant for the ocean air conditioning, which has been largely missing over the la

i am joined now by meteorologist rob mayeda. rob, this is what we've all been waiting for eight days. i've had no good news. i know it changed today. we finally got the cooling right. now 15 degrees cooler in san jose. so the valley is now starting to cool off as that sea breeze picks up as the marine layer deepens to eventually some of the 90s that we're still seeing inland out towards the tri-valley and pleasanton. they're still 93 degrees 90 south of downtown san jose. that two should begin to fade away as that marine layer deepens up inland 80s ahead. but stay tuned to that forecast. we're tracking cooling and just maybe a chance of showers as we head into the weekend. tomorrow morning, drizzle and low clouds return. that's good news where our temperatures are concerned for the morning 50s to start and around lunchtime, running into the 70s and low 80s inland and our highs tomorrow. no 90s on the map out towards the tri-valley area south of san jose. north bay, mostly in the 80s. and as we head into thursday and friday, the c

rob mayeda is with us now with some of the numbers. so, rob, obviously it is so nice to see the rain and the snow in the mountains as well. but does this finally mean that fire season is over or is it just too early to tell? yeah, that's one of the most asked questions right now, and it's great to see that video from the central sierra snow lab. and this is good news, too. we're going to see more than just a dusting of snow likely over the next few days. so some early season snow for the sierra. but as we tally things up closer to the bay area in terms of how much rain has fallen, the cooler temperatures have certainly helped of late. but really we're not quite there yet. you'd really want to see 1 or 2in of rain that have already get into the rain gauges around the bay area. obviously, the weather that's coming in this week should help, but probably not quite yet in terms of shutting down fire season. but the weather pattern ahead certainly i think will help. you're keeping a close eye on that as always, of course. rob. climate predict

rob mayeda here., depending where you were benecia if you were at the firehouse, san francisco, you got different weather. yeah, a little bit of low clouds. actual measurable rainfall too. yes, we can talk about that in the north bay. in fact, out towards calistoga, santa rosa, close to a quarter inch of rain. although in the south bay you're not seeing much in the way of rain showers. but you do have the low clouds and mild temperatures. no signs of any triple digits like we saw earlier in the week. it's a little mild, though. in san jose, 71 degrees, some low clouds nearby. we'll take you over to walnut creek. currently 69 degrees and up towards san rafael. we've had a little bit of light rain at times 64 and into san francisco, and fortunately the blanket of low clouds which moved in during the afternoon. still there right now. areas of drizzle as we head into the morning. so rain totals here. san francisco about 100th of an inch of rain. just enough to measure. but as you head up to calistoga, mor

meteorologist rob mayeda joins us now. rob, the weekend is here and it's still going to be hot. yeah, it's not a pretty lineup. when you look at the fire danger, the heat again, the temperatures climbing up before they cool down again into early next week and a spare the air day announced for saturday will likely see another one for sunday. first up, the red flag warnings across lake county, the east bay hills, diablo range and santa cruz mountains. this is for the hot, dry and at times breezy conditions. when you look at the wildfire fuels in terms of what could burn most of the state from the northern half, central half, even southern california near max dry valleys, you got the hot temperatures, low humidity. anytime the wind picks up, you get these red flag warnings like we'll see to start the weekend and the heat a big factor as well. excessive heat warnings from the inner bay to san francisco down into the south bay. high impact for outdoor events, including the 49ers game kickoff at 105, could see numbers in the mid to upper 90s during that game, and other impacts to coll

rob mayeda is here to talk about the cool down, hopefully. and actually look at this sunset right now in san francisco. it's gorgeous. some of the best evening views around the bay area. it's orange friday. it is right, you know, and it's comfortable at least around san francisco. today we did get up to about 82 degrees. temperatures cooled a little bit. but look at san jose. almost 20 degrees above average. and we're going to go even hotter. unfortunately for your weekend forecast is concerned. taking you into tomorrow mornin. it's a warm start, you know, for starting the day in the 60s. and seconds. but it's going to be a hot afternoon. and sure enough, as we pass lunchtime tomorrow, numbers into the 90s inland high temperatures around downtown san jose again near 98 degrees. hundreds down around morgan hil, tri valley, and the north bay. round two for sunday. so keep that in mind for the 49ers game. again, we're expecting temperatures in the mid to upper 90s there. upper 80s and low 90s san francisco to oakland. so when does the cooe back?

let's bring in meteorologist rob mayeda. something for everybody this week, rob.eah, we've been watching those changes in the weather as we take a look at the forecast moving forward. we've got temperatures in the 70s and 80s outside earlier today. and it's been a nice finish to the weekend. but we're about to see some changes. first up tomorrow we've got the beach hazards statement due to rough surf surf building off the northwest swell at 6 to 8ft. watch for fast shore run up sneaker waves and strong rip currents. then comes the midweek rain chance. but look at the totals. pretty underwhelming here. unfortunately, i think the biggest story of the week isn't the midweek rain chance. it's what follows it, and it looks like a typical october pattern of gusty, dry offshore winds. this is a big problem as we could see daytime dry conditions as we wake up to that on friday morning. so moving forward, the issues are that rain midweek, not offsetting the potential for fire danger. as we head into friday and saturday of a closer look at that in the forecast coming up in

meteorologist rob mayeda tracking the cool down. rob, what's coming our way? you might say it's a taste of some football weather around the bay area. we're about to see a big drop in those temperatures. and for tomorrow, another chance we could see a few scattered showers. first up, the chance of showers during the mid morning to early afternoon hours from 10 a.m. to about 3 p.m. tomorrow, and then the skies start to clear. and by this time tomorrow night, which will lead the way to that clearing, will be some dry north winds picking up. so this time tomorrow night, plan on more wind and a big drop in those temperatures. kind of a case of canadian air conditioning as that cooler, drier air sets in wind sheltered valleys. once we get into tuesday morning for the north bay, we're talking upper 30s. that is a big change from the weather we've had over the last couple of weeks. and on top of that, as we move forward closer to halloween, there is another chance of seeing some rain in the forecast. i'll give you the timeline on the cooldown and those rain chances ah

let's check in with meteorologist rob mayeda. he's got the answers to your question, and i think the only question is when is it going to end and why so many people were in pacifica or the coast today. it's the temperatures you see over my shoulder just smashing records all over the bay area. you can see san jose, 103 degrees downtown san francisco 97. that is the hottest. it's been since this heat wave began, since about a week ago. inland areas, anywhere from about 20 to 25 degrees above the average. it's not normally this hot this time of year. to say the least. average highs upper 70s to low 80s. now we do have one more day tomorrow. as you see here on the heat index heat risk map, areas in red and purple, indicating that our inland locations could once again look at highs in the 90s to above 100 degrees and bayside 80s and 90s again may not be quite as hot as today, but monday still shaping up to be the eighth day in this heat wave. but watch what happens if the same map as we get through tuesday. now the extreme heat risk s

let's go ahead and get right to meteorologist rob mayeda with the latest. rob. yeah. even though today technically was a cooler day, we still broke records for highs today in places like concord and san jose. upper 90s this afternoon it was 101 degrees in livermore. and speaking of fire danger, tonight, lake county, you can see, has dropped from the red flag warnings, but still ongoing. santa cruz mountains, east bay hills and around the diablo range into about 9:00 tomorrow morning. but all weekend long will be the heat. and unfortunately it's about to get hotter again around bayside areas from san francisco to oakland, 80s and 90s, returning saturday and valleys into the 90s and one hundreds more hundreds for inland areas saturday and sunday. keep in mind the 49ers game with that early sunday start mid 90s at kickoff and approaching halftime could be looking at upper 90s. if that holds, that would be the hottest game played at levi's stadium for the 49ers are watching that closely, and when we finally see some cooler changes ahead in that 7-day forecast, we'll have

let's bring in meteorologist rob mayeda for a closer look at our hot temperatures. it's going to be hot throughout the whole weekend. yeah. and fortunately we're going to see a warm up before a more sustained cooldown comes to the bay area and the headlines moving forward into the weekend, we've got a red flag warning for the hills of the north bay east bay, and santa cruz mountains. hotter temperatures across the region from bay communities to our inland valleys and a spare the air alert issued for saturday. first up, the fire danger. you can think of all the hot days and warm nights as preconditioning the hills around the bay area. once the winds pick up, you see these red flag warnings issued up around lake county. the east bay hills, and the santa cruz mountains through 9 a.m. tomorrow. fuel moisture values for much of california near all time max dry values. so you add in the wind with the hot and dry conditions, and you see the fire danger around the bay area. now we have the extension of the excessive heat warning for san francisco, the inner bay to start the
