let's get to rob schmidt. >> law enforcement sources tell fox news the attacker was a somali-born 18-year-old who came to the u.s. as a refugee and was granted legal permanent status. he was shot to death by a police officer in the midst of that attack. his motive, however, and possible ties to terror do remain unknown at this point. campus police say just before 10:00 this morning the young man intentionally drove his vehicle into a crowd of students right outside of watts hall. calls came into 911 reporting an accident but the suspect jumped out of the car and started attacking people with a butcher knife. the campus went into lockdown. students were told to run, hide and fight as a last resort. students not in danger were told to shelter in place. a remarkably quick response from the hero police officer in all of this could be the reason no students have been killed. police say within one minute of the call to help for 911 that officer arrived at the scene and shot and killed the knife-wielding suspect as he attacked those defenseless students going to and from their monday morning
